It was an open interview day.

The Cross Fox, Yoka was pleased to say, had a good employee retention rate. But it was a demanding job, and not one that people were often proud to say they worked in, so it was not uncommon for her employees to leave once they found something that they were not ashamed to put on their resume. Yoka tended to keep open interviews for that reason.

Despite the risque nature of the club, Yoka conducted interviews professionally dressed. After all, this was a business. She wore a button-up blouse and had her long hair pinned up into a bun, though a few strands had escaped and framed her face. She wore a set of glasses, a comfortable pencil skirt, and a pair of comfortable orange heels that matched her blouse. She looked like she should be in an office instead of a strip club, but here she was, sitting at a booth and working on expense reports.

She never knew who would come in or for what kind of job they were looking for. Yoka hired more than just dancers; illusionists, healers, arcane spell casters, and bouncers were a few easy to name, though there were bartenders, cooks, and more.

It was rare for Yoka to turn someone away. She could always find use for a particular talent, and since she'd been hanging flyers around again, she was optimistic she might just find someone she was looking for.

Yoka was lucky that way.

"Come in, to the back," Yoka said, when she heard the door chime open.

The stigma of an establishment like the Cross Fox was somewhat negative, Devias found, and while he can hear all about how people find it gross for others to put their exposed bodies on display, he saw no difference when compared to those who sang for a living. He thought there was something more to it, and took a chance when he found a flyer that said that the club needed some medical personnel.

While Devias himself was not licensed by this world's standards, he was capable for healing injuries. Most of his kind was.

Devias was dressed heavily with a tunic underneath a denim jacket purposefully left unbuttoned, dark brown jeans and a lighter-shaded pair of boots. He had simple glasses on his face, and the satchel on his hip containing some every-day supplies completed his attire. He honestly looked more like an explorer.

Despite how warm it looked, it didn't seem to bother him.

After finding the building, he entered, setting off a chime at the door and was later called to the back by a feminine voice. "You must be Miss Yoka," he said as he approached the booth. He took notice of the woman's features and then proceeded to keep eye contact as he introduced himself. "I am Devias Hel'Sarie. I believe your establishment is looking for medical personnel?"

Yoka looked up when she heard her name.

She took in the young man's appearance quickly. He looked young, but on the island, that meant nothing. Yoka herself appeared to be at most, thirty, and she'd lived over five centuries now. She smiled at him and waved to the seat in the booth across from her.

"Mr. Hel'Saire," Yoka said, and then she said, "Am I pronouncing that correctly?"

She was pleased by his eye contact. It was something Yoka had come to value over her lifespan, because it gave her a good impression of the person she was talking to and his or her attention span. Devias seemed interesting to her already, particularly with his interest in her open medical positions.

"Yes," Yoka explained. "While The Cross Fox is generally a safe environemtn, i like to make sure it stays that way for my employees, and nothing is more volatile than magic and stage shows."

She flashed him a warm smile.

"Generally, our injuries tend to be mundane: sprained wrists, broken ankles, a nasty concussion from a fall off one of the poles," Yoka explained. "Though there are times when, regretfully, the injures are more substantiated. Many of our employees have powers of their own and I cannot always predict when they might flare up."

Fucking Murphy, she thought, though the thought was with pleasure.

"So if you're up for a challenge, I'm pleased to offer competitive pay and benefits," Yoka explained. "May I ask how you learned of our open positions?"

She had one more question for him, which was also asked with a smile, "And can I get you anything to drink?"

Devias nodded as he took a seat across from his potential employer. "That is how it's pronounced," he affirmed. Devias only broke eye contact to make sure he wouldn't accidentally sit on some paperwork that might have blown on his seat, but once he was seated, he resumed eye contact with a slight adjustment to his glasses.

Facial expressions were never Devias' strong point. He had a monotonous gaze, yet it projected a friendly and pleased demeanor. This kept throughout Yoka's explanation on why she needed people with medical magic. From the examples she's given, it sounded like the basics on using his blood for curative purposes would suffice.

"I'll just have some water," he told her when she asked if she could get him a drink. He hadn't craved for anything, yet he didn't want to deny her hospitality; that would have been rude. "I've heard some students in the academy mention that the Cross Fox was hiring, but I had also seen a flyer downtown with more specifics on the matter."

Yoka nodded and picked herself up from the booth. She made the quick walk behind the bar and grabbed a glass of spring water with ice for the man, bringing with it a slice of lemon. Yoka herself brought back a cherry soda and returned to the booth, sliding in across from him and placing his drink and the lemon slice across from him.

Yoka nodded.

"Yes, I advertise on both fronts," she explained. "Which leads me to ask...are you a student?"

She took a sip of her soda and then realized she should continue so as not to dissuade him.

"While it is true that I generally employee adults over the age of 18 to comply with the islands laws, I do take students sixteen and up, particularly for the medical positions, because there is no need for you to be on the floor during business hours," Yoka motioned to the empty club they were sitting in.

"I must ask: I'm curious what makes you believe you're suited for the position?" she asked, tilting her head and giving him another smile. She sipped her soda again.

Devias held the glass firmly as he drank a bit from it. It tasted slightly different from the water he had in school. Perhaps the lemon slice added something to it. There wasn't time to investigate this further as Yoka asked if he was a student. "Yes, I am a student."

He listened to her explanation of her hiring practices and found that to be indeed in line with the laws put in place in Manta Carlos. When asked about why he thought he would be fit for the job, he simply replied with, "I can quickly heal injuries and I can respond immediately if called. Both of which being important parts of a person who is in a medical position."

Yoka nodded.

Student would be no issue then, she could work around that. And, if he wanted to be on the floor when he turned 18? Well, they could work something out then.

"Then the previous description would apply to you," Yoka explained. She gave a quick laugh. "I always have to ask. I once had to tell my bouncers not to turn away the young man who looked 15 because he was really 15,000, but to turn away the grizzled man with the beard because he was only 16, but being a werebear made him look so much older. On this island, I never know what to expect."

Yoka said that with a sigh, but it was clear that she loved it.

His straight forward description intrigued her.

"Do your powers work on a variety of creatures or only humans or those in a human form?" Yoka asked. She'd ask for more specifics in a moment. He'd already captured her attention.

Can be there immediately? Oh, Yoka's heart soared.

Devias could understand where Yoka was coming from. Age and appearance was not something that came hand in hand in the island. More so than in Sol, where only a few people could be mistaken to be younger or older than they were.

But the reasons for it here were fascinating.

"If the subject is organic or arcane in nature and is tangible, then there is a high likelihood of my healing powers working on them. However, when it comes to arcanic entities, there may be variations with effectiveness depending on their mana structure among other factors."

Yoka nodded. That was better than she could hope for, so she jotted something down in her notebook. She seemed pleased, and Yoka made no effort to hide the pleasure from her face.

"So how is it that you can arrive instantly?" Yoka asked. "The building does have spellwork that may need to be adjusted. We have it in place to ensure that no one shows up without paying the cover fee."

She took another sip of her drink and then set it back down on the table. Yoka uncrossed her legs and leaned forward, intrigued by his upcoming answer.

Yoka seemed happy with his answer, which was a good sign. Of course Devias' own positivity of the outcome was a little hard to detect with his near permanent neutral expression. As she was writing something down on her notes, Devias took a sip of his drink after cooling it a little with a little bit of magic. He liked his drinks cold, and his innate ability to cool anything down was a great gift to have. It complemented his preferences. Already, the shift in temperature on the outside of the glass caused a small amount of condensation that wasn't there before.

"I use portals. It's a convenient way to travel from one point to another. As for adjusting your spellwork, I don't think there are any modifications to be made. The void energies I use often bypass such barriers normally."
