Octain gave them all check marks. Though they all got the general idea down.. Chloe was the one who was currently becoming a student of his expectations. "I do this to gauge your knowledge. Magic albeit has many forms. Many Arts. The main ones are the ones you spoke of. Thaumaturgy; magic invoking the four elements Oculaturgy; illusions and mental effects Hematurgy; healing and blood magic Chronoturgy; time magic, very unpredictable Phasmaturgy; ghost magic, not to be confused with necromancy. Loch, your examples of the Oculaturgy were immaculate. I am impressed by your findings. Simple things like that are illusions. Physical or magical."

He said as he rubbed his chin. He opened his spellbook again as he began to read something. "Anyone with a catalyst is able to cast magic from an art they choose or work in, though. Someone who is adept in the art of magic." He tried to come up with some kind of example. Then he snapped his finger as his spellbook fell to his side on a chain. "Think of someone who is has a knack for the Piano. With practice. They could make for a great musician and will be unparalleled than someone who works at it from the ground up."

"Chloe and Lochlann shall be in..." Letting the will of magic force his hand as he looked at the board as a sign appeared through the chalk writing on the board. Though he was chanting the simple trick of moving the chalk on it's own was interesting enough. "In favor of the rule."

"This means that Wei and Morgan will be on the opposite side. Against."

So the other group was against. "I wish for you all find meaning in the rule. Then come up with ONE reason on why the rule should NOT exist and why the rule DOES exist." He said. The rule One.

Kill not with Magic.

"This is the easiest one." He said with a smile on his face. He was looking forward to this.

Morgan had been chosen to be on the side, against the rule... gods this Magistar Octain he was... a demon. Making Morgan fight against her precious, precious rules? Either way she still had to do it, whether she wanted to or not. Morgan collected her supplies and moved closer to Wei, who she was partnered against.

"So, whats your take on this? Ive got a few ideas floating around already, but id like to hear yours as well." she spoke putting on a fake vibe of confidence, she wasnt confident, not at all. "Kill not with Magic" that was a perfect rule! Dont kill people! Simple as that! And what would happen to rule breakers? They would of course be punished, probably by death.

"I agree with the rule for the most part, its something that should never be broken. Unless in some extreme circumstance of course. One should be allowed to kill another with magic if it is to defend themselves, and obviously there must be some peacekeeping force that can take out threatening and destructive mages."

"Chloe and Lochlann shall be in... favor of the rule.

Well. Shit.

Don't kill people with magic.

That was definitely not one of Lochlann's strong points. He looked at Chloe nervously, running a hand through his hair.

"So," he said, tapping his good leg against the back of the chair in front of him. "In favor of not killing people with magic. I feel like this rule implies that killing people at all is undesirable....which I suppose I can agree with."

He stopped tapping with his foot and proceeded to drum his fingers across the table. he was fidgeting. He was really close to walking out of the class, he wasn't able to handle this--even if the proff did give him credit for his illusion examples.

He decided to run his thoughts past Chloe, giving her the option to submit their final answer.

"I guess if magic is tied in with life force, blood and sex and stuff, and magic is primarily a creative force, using it for destruction to destroy someone with the ability or potential to create seems like it'd be really unbalanced, and have unstable results for....I don't know, whoever is involved?"

He shrugged, his body posture seeming to say fuck if I know.

He and Morgan would be arguing against the rules? Well, that was okay with him. Wei personally had no attachment to rules one way or the other. While he acknowledged that the rules could be used to help people who were unable to help themselves and protected the downtrodden, there were some rules that simply didn't do that. There were rules that didn't work when it came to people.

Morgan asked his take on the matter, but he elected not to say anything until she said her part. She cited situations where someone would need to kill in self-defense, and also when it came to peacekeeping among mages when it came to handling those among them that were dangerous. "What about consenting kills?" He asked, letting his leg swing freely. "Situations where a mage is asking for death to break free from a curse? What about situations where you must defend someone else from a mage who can't defend themselves?"

Wei was just thinking out loud now. "The rule exists to prevent mages from abusing their power, but the rule shouldn't exist because there are situations that can only be solved by killing the catalyst before it has the chance to become a problem, or to contain dangerous beings to useless cadavers."

As he finished saying his piece, his leg stopped swinging. "At least, that's what I think. Killing is a legitimate way to solve problems, after all."

Rayn was running hallway to hall way throughout the school. "Dang it, dang it I'm late." She ran tirelessly for she knew that the teacher would not tolerate tardiness. "At least I have a good excuse... I just have to think of one." While running and thinking she didn't think of an excuse, she came up with an idea. "Duh, I swear I'm stupid sometimes i could just fly." She skidded to a stop and as soon as she stopped her heel broke. "Of course it did! Just FREAKING great." She levitates over the ground and starts flying.

"Well at least I have an excuse I just need to tell a little white lie of where it happened." She started thinking and she should've known that flying and thinking are bad and she crashed right into a wall. "Oww, that hurt but now I have an idea, I'll just tell him I fell and hurt my head pretty bad because I did hurt my head and my heel did break just... not exactly in that specific order of events." She decided to stop flying and just speed walk because apparently walking is the only thing that didn't ruin her day.

Down the hall was the classroom and she got to the door and tried to push it open but she noticed there was a rune on the door, a rune that she could not yet possibly break. She started banging on the door. "PLEASE! Please let me in." She was yelling hysterically. But at this point all she wanted to do was to go to class, she could just imagine how much she has missed.

Chloe sighed. “Yeah, Loch,” her voice was low, just loud enough for him to hear, “I can’t really come up with any non-bullshit reasons for it either. I mean, that second thing is only true in special circumstances, and there are too many exceptions to the whole ‘killing is always bad’ thing.”

She thought about it in silence for a moment. “I guess… it could also be a practical thing? Just imagine how much chaos there could be if there wasn’t a rule like this. Maybe we could argue that there needs to be a rule like this, but admit that there ought to be... exceptions, or something.”

The half-demon shrugged.

Someone outside started yelling and banging on the door, interrupting both of the teams' pre-debate deliberations. “Magistar Octain? Should I let her in?”

Octain went to interject with his own information. Something enlightening. "Think of-" He heard someone yelling to be let in. Then Chloe who was by the door asked if she should open it up. He nodded his head for a moment. "Please Chloe, allow the Tardy one in." He said as he undid his cloak, showing his vest and shorts. He tossed his Cloak onto the desk as his spellbook hung off his side hung off of a chain.

"Tell me.. Whom ever you are. What is your name, and reason to be late." He said, handing her a sheet of paper stating that she was late to the class. "Take a seat."

He said, writing down her reason to be late, or putting a number down beside an old one.

"Now, although this is a theory. You are all able to use magic or have some kind of idea on what magic is." He said. Taking out a mask of his bag that was on the table and placed the mask on the table as he looked at the class once more, given an idea to find out what magic really is to them. "Though I wish for you all to gain a more hands on. I wish to see all your magics. I want to you find a desk, pencil or something else. Just not a person. Use your power to show off."

He looked outside the window at the forest. He had an idea with the mask. Just to get them to do something interesting for a class. In the Forbidden forest. Then he began to watch the class.

"I suppose ill go first?"

Use your power to show off! Perfect! Morgan could defiantly get some points with this one. What would she do? Use Magmos to create a small concentrated fire? Use Fuhbar to make a huge ornate sword? Morgan decided to use Glaceau, shed create something neat out of ice.
She quietly whispered to herself "Glaceau, I require your power.", Morgan waited for a response.
"Oh is this some sort of magic class? Good luck hun!"
Morgan felt embarrassed, her powerful ice spirit was treating her like a child, luckily no one else could hear this, or she hoped they couldn't (anyone who could communicate with spirits could hear this).
Morgan rubbed her hands together, and cracked her knuckles. She put an open palm into the air, and closed her eyes, invisioning a shape. Suddenly a massive snowflake made from ice appeared in her hand, it was perfectly symmetrical, and Morgan was balancing it on her palm easily. She opened her eyes again and relaxed, taking a deep breath, though she still kept the large snowflake perfectly balanced.
"Ok... This is the hard part." she pulled her arm down, then launched the snowflake into the air. As it flew into the air it split into a ton of much smaller snowflakes, which drifted around the room, but quickly dissolved before they could hit anyone. Morgan sat back down, putting her head in her palms and taking some more deep breaths. That was tricky, but Morgan thought she did a good enough job.

ooc: omg im so sorry i didn't realize it was my turn to post))

"Though I wish for you all to gain a more hands on. I wish to see all your magics. I want to you find a desk, pencil or something else. Just not a person. Use your power to show off."

Morgan did something really cool, whispering to herself and then filling the room with snowflakes that disappeared before they could even land on him. For a moment, Lochlann's eyes followed the flakes and he seemed to forget about his worries because damn that was cool.

But then it was his turn.

No.

Absolutely not.

Not in a thousand freaking years.

Lochlann's breath hitched in the back of his throat. He was painfully aware of the fact that his palms were sweating. His clothing felt too tight. He swallowed a lump in the back of his throat that he was certain was going to choke him.

"I don't, I mean..." he stammered. "Fuck."

He cast a nervous glance towards Chloe, then at Wei, Morgan, and finally Octain. His eyes were pleading, please don't make me do this.

He couldn't do this.

He got up suddenly, knocking the desk chair out behind him, clutching onto the desk until his leg stopped spasming and then he rushed to the door. He opened it and ran into the hallway but--

—-the fuck? He was back in the classroom?

He let out a surprised cry, and turned back to the class, hands pressed against the door. He tried one more time but SAME RESULT HE WAS STILL IN THE CLASSROOM NO NO NO NO

His heart was racing. He followed Octain's gaze, out the window, to the woods--

There was only one thing left to do.

Lochlann bolted. He threw open the window and kicked out the screen.

He jumped.

The door opened. " I'm very sorry for being late, my heel broke and I hit my head realm hard." She walked over to a desk and observed the class.

One
girl made a giant snow flake and then that snowflake turned into a bunch of other snowflakes and Rayn wasn't even cold.

So then a guy went but he started being weird and started running out the door and then he came back, then he did it again and then he jumped out the window...

The room was awkward and silent to Rayn decided to go. "I guess I'll go." Rayn flew with a spiral of water around her. She then changed her hair color to black and her clothes black. She then made a design in the air with water and became apart of it. The water then evaporated and she appeared behind the teacher.

Rayn walked back to her seat.
