The guy could cut his jumps close, that was for sure. Ian almost winced, thinking Orion was going to flatten himself in the sand but admittedly glad he didn't. Then the device showed up, some sort of disk that Orion inevitably planned to try and scan Ian with. Maybe if it was something cell-phone sized and unobtrusive Ian would've agreed but he stepped back, using his arms to try and keep the device from being pointed directly at him.

"No, no scanning please. I don't even know what you're scanning for and I don't think I want to know. No reason to start waving something like that in my face. C'mon, stop."

He didn't use his power again, though it was certainly tempting to render that scanning device inoperable. Another display might just make things worse for him, and he had already made up his mind this issue. Orion's place could use someone else in it and Ian said he'd help him. He pressed the issue, trying to steer his new friend back on track.

"Hey we're going to find you a roomie aren't we? someone to share your science cabin? C'mon we gotta get into town and place an ad for you or somethin'."

Orion initially fought Ian's attempts to push his scanning device away like a disorderly child. But unlike a bratty child, Orion quickly gave up under the weight of Ian's protest and lowered the device. It was not a decision he was totally happy with, as was obvious from his overtly pouty expression. If there was one thing he did not like, it was being denied the chance to learn something new or at least not acting successfully on his curiosity. But another time perhaps...

"Alright. Alright. Just give me a second to put this away..."

He turned to go back up the ladder and return the device, then gave a quick spin around and looked about ready to try the scanning device again. But a second later, he decided against a surprise scanning and went to put away the device. He returned without it and wearing a proper shirt.

"Right! You think we should call it the Science Cabin? That sounds like an attention grabber to me. But what do you have in mind? Flier? TV ads? Maybe a town crier? OH! Maybe we can hold auditions or something!"

"Well..."

Ian felt a little bad about denying Orion suddenly. Who was he to deny the guy when he made such a big deal over it? How could he truly say no to such a face? Ian scratched the back of his neck gingerly and looked down and away as he spoke.

"Well we can scan me later, I guess. After the task at hand, I mean."

When Orion was all ready to go, Ian stretched his arms, lacing his fingers together and hearing them crack as his limbs extented. He started to walk and talk, hoping to lead Orion towards Manta Carlos. As he spoke, he cracked each knuckle and finger joint.

"Well, we can put out an ad in the Manta Carlos papers, maybe a TV ad if we can find someone who'd run it."

Ian blinked a few times at 'town crier'

"...If we can find somebody to do the job then we could try town crier, but just so long as its not you and me. We need you to talk to potential room mates and... I'm just not gunna do it."

Orion looked pleased with the option of scanning Ian at a later time, even going as far as giving a little clap. Walking alongside Ian was no problem for Orion, who was just about ready to start walking circles around Ian considering how excited he was. He was maybe going to get a roommate AND he might be able to scan Ian after all! That was worth celebrating.

"Oh, I wouldn't force you to carry my ad yourself. You're already helping me enough!

The thought of a TV ad intriged Orion, and he briefly tried to imagine how that might look.

"Hehehe~ A TV ad would be cool. But that would cost money, wouldn't it? And I obviously don't have any.... Yet. But enough about that!"

Speeding up to outpace Ian, Orion circled around to the front and began walking backwards so he could face Ian and hold his SAGE glove out to him with a smile on his face.

"While we're walking, would you mind at least describing what you did back there on my ship? Scanning is nice, but some nice informational notes from the source itself would be greatly appreciated!"

A description... Ian figured he could provide that much. He was proud of his power at the least, and didn't mind sharing too much about it. What was the worst that Orion could do with this information anyways?

"People in my family are born... with a gift."

He stumbled a bit, family was always a touchy subject for Ian but he was getting better and better at hiding just how it galled him to bring them up.

"We manifest it at different ages, different times, and it always comes out a little different for each of us. Mine was what you saw there. I don't know how deep it runs or the full extent of it but I'm able to reshape stuff, bend it, even power machines or blow things apart."

With a shrug Ian put his hands back in his pockets and turned his head away, looking down slightly. Explaining it always made it feel like there was less to it, and it was downright magical when it did. Up To Me was the best thing to ever happen to Ian, but he felt like there was so much more to it, that he was only scratching the surface of his powers, of Up To Me's potential...

"By the sounds of things, though. A newspaper ad might be the best way to go. Maybe even some online ads?"

Ian didn't know how secret these secret little islands were, but at the very least an ad in the local paper might be worth trying, and he had found himself apprehensive to talk about those powers he was so proud of.

Orion may have been excitable, eccentric, and strange; but he could be quiet and respectful too. As Ian gave a little bit of background to his abilities, Orion only silently nodded and occasionally glanced over his shoulder to make sure he was not about to stumble backwards over anything. For all of his weirdness at most times, Orion was a different person when it came to learning or hearing others talk about things that he had no knowledge of. In fact, he seemed downright enraptured by Ian's story.

The glove glowed and recorded everything Ian was saying, and occasionally would be privy to Orion typing out some extra notes on the touch screen in an unreadable language. When he finished, and he had returned to walking normally at Ian's side, Orion looked calmer. His curiosity had been sated for the moment, so he could stand still like a normal person.

"Online sounds expensive, don't it? And complicated. For my needs, I believe we shall stick with old, dying media."

He gave Ian a friendly slap on the back.

"Even if it doesn't come through, you're welcome to visit anyway! I'll even have the Ship put you in memory or something. Maybe you could tell me more of your talents... If you're feeling up to it."

Through his chipper-ness, Orion sounded like he actually noticed and cared that Ian did not seem all that comfortable with revealing his history.

"I can help with the online part, I think. You can leave that Up To Me."

Ian spoke with that renewed veneer of confidence, he brought his hands up and punched his palm. As he walked, watching over Orion's shoulder, he cracked his knuckles then laced his fingers and stretched, more cracking. He was quick to want to put his revelations behind him. The slap on the back made him stumble a bit though, but his composure regained before his footing, as they walked he thought about it, and as he thought he crossed his arms a bit, looking up the path back into 'civilization'. They were not too far away from shops, houses, restaurants... All things considered, what Ian thought was a creepy hidden metal shack might actually be a trendy, noveau beachfront pad for two.

"We can stick to the old media too, though. And I think I know where we can put out an ad in the paper, maybe even put some flyers up at the school."

As Ian walked he shifted, hands back into his pockets. He cast a warmer than normal smile at Orion, not coming off as so angry or rude anymore. Not once did Ian expect he'd meet someone on the beach, not someone like this and not in a situation like this. It wasn't as unwelcome as he already thought it'd be. A breeze rustled the trees as Ian mulled over the offer that Orion had made to him.

"Maybe when we get you a proper roomie we can focus on what I can do a little more. Heck, I can give a demonstration and we can do some renovation later, if you'd like."
