The guy could cut his jumps close, that was for sure. Ian almost winced, thinking Orion was going to flatten himself in the sand but admittedly glad he didn't. Then the device showed up, some sort of disk that Orion inevitably planned to try and scan Ian with. Maybe if it was something cell-phone sized and unobtrusive Ian would've agreed but he stepped back, using his arms to try and keep the device from being pointed directly at him.
"No, no scanning please. I don't even know what you're scanning for and I don't think I want to know. No reason to start waving something like that in my face. C'mon, stop."
He didn't use his power again, though it was certainly tempting to render that scanning device inoperable. Another display might just make things worse for him, and he had already made up his mind this issue. Orion's place could use someone else in it and Ian said he'd help him. He pressed the issue, trying to steer his new friend back on track.
"Hey we're going to find you a roomie aren't we? someone to share your science cabin? C'mon we gotta get into town and place an ad for you or somethin'."
