Leo was used to nice homes. Every person he'd been rented to could afford one, after all. He'd been in mansions, penthouses, high rise suites, all sorts of locations. People's homes didn't have much reason to impress him. He'd never gotten the run of those places, though. Slaves didn't get to appreciate everything those places had to offer.

But he was free now, and he wanted to understand how free people lived, especially other free NEK0. So naturally, he was quite happy to be invited into Ganymede's home. Despite his usual quiet demeanour, he followed after his new friend with an eager eye.

"So this Monday person is your...father?" He asked, hands buried in his pockets. He'd been introduced to a dorm parent after he'd been moved into the dorms, but he understood that Gany's position was a little different from that.

"Foster father," Ganymede said. "The long and short of it is, people like Monday will sometimes let children who need a home live in theirs. My social worker recommended me for the program because of what I was like when I came here.."

Ganymede led Leo through the apartment, which sat over an antique store. Monday's home lacked those telltale signs of extraordinary wealth that Ganymede had grown accustomed to before coming here. Over time, the catboy had come to find this comforting.

"For all intents and purposes, he's my father. And he's been very good to me. Though from what I can tell I've been a fairly easy foster child to host."

Now Ganymede was leading him up a flight of stairs, to his room. There they could have some privacy, and speak with the kinds of flourishes teenagers used more often in the absence of adult ears. Though Ganymede rarely spoke in such ways, he was making a conscious effort to 'loosen up.'

He nodded along as Gany explained, following after him to his room.

"Must be nice. You know, having someone looking after you like this," He said, scratching the back of his head. "Keeping you fed without expecting any service..."

He took his cap off as they approached his room, shrugging the jacket off his shoulders as well. It was hard for him to feel guarded around Ganymede, unlike how he felt around almost everyone else. His demeanour and their shared experiences were enough to get the other cat boy to relax a little easier.

"Its...very nice here," He eventually said, taking a moment to search for a word. "It feels...lived in, I think. I'm not really used to it."

"I know. I'm almost being treated like a real boy, and not like Pinocchio."

After they entered his room, Ganymede flopped himself onto one of the beanbag chairs and stretched.

"It's not quite like the homes we used to work in," Ganymede said. "Certainly less expensive. But I find that comforting." Every time he looked around in here, he was reminded of his new place in life. It helped him to ground himself in the present, like his therapist had taught him how to do.

"All of us should get the opportunity to live like this," he said. "Or at least to live for ourselves. On our terms."

A small frown pulled at his lips.

"Shame not all of us want it," He grumbled, the bitter tone in his voice obvious. After a short moment, he sat down on the bed, tail swaying pensively behind him. "I've met a few others now, you know. I know there's plenty that miss...there old lives. I don't...I don't think I can ever understand why."

He left off a short sigh, finding it easier to vocalise his frustration now that they were alone, now that he didn't need to keep up appearances.

"Only reason I'd wanna go back is to burn it all down."

"Some of our owners were better at brainwashing us than others," Ganymede said. "It used to work on me. These days seeing it in the others is starting to just... to piss me off, more and more."

The words 'piss me off' felt unnatural in his mouth, and they sounded uncomfortable coming out. He rarely used such vulgar language. Here he was almost forcing himself to experiment with it.

This talk of burning it down recalled some of Ganymede's new fantasies. He made a sound, half-purring half-vocalizing, and a fireballs the size of a candlelight appeared a foot in front of his face. "I've spent a lot of time thinking about how I'd do that, actually. If someone told me where one of the labs or trading posts was, and I could just... go there and do something."

The candlelight-sized fireball turned into a tiny fiery sword. Ganymede looked back up at Leo. "How would you burn it down?"

Leo raises an eyebrow, evidently seeing him break his usual overly polite manner of speaking is as strange to hear as it is for him to say. Though his thoughts didn't linger on it for long, his eyes shifting to the fire.

"It'd be a lot easier if I could do something like that." He said, shifting. "I saw one of those narrow reality X-Man movies where a guy shot fire out of his hands. Bet none of those assholes would know what to do against it."

The coarse language came to him a lot easier, though had about as much practice as Ganymede. No one expected him to be cautiously polite but he still often tried, still worried about bothering other people, still didn't want to give people an excuse to throw him out like his owners.

So it was cathartic to throw all that caution to the wind.

"They'd never see it coming. One of their weak little slaves walking in and burning them all to hell." He rubbed his hands together at the thought. "Shouldn't have made us such fast learners."

Ganymede smiled at Leo calling their former masters assholes. Ganymede had said something similar, months ago. It was actually the first time he had said a swear word.

"We'd make short work of their facilities, I think. I'd be able to pull any NEK0s out first, and then we could just light it all up together. Burn the whole thing to ash. And if anyone tries to stop us..."

Ganymede reached over to the drawer in his bedside table and fished around. Then he retrieved a pair of unusually-shaped pieces of foam. "We could bring earplugs. They can't talk us out of it if we can't hear them." He smiled, proud of this little contingency plan he'd thought up.

He smiled back, allowing himself to feel an almost childish glee at the thought.

"Perfect, we can bring a bunch so they can't order around any of their captives either." He started to nod, before suddenly wincing at the sharp pain from the movement of his burned skin. With how excitable they were getting he'd almost forgotten to be careful about that.

"Ow..." He clenched his fingers a little. "We'd...need to do something about the kill collars as well, right? Otherwise, they'd just use them as we try to sneak the NEK0's out."

Ganymede was getting into it now. The more they spoke about it, the more he felt like he had some kind of power over this whole situation.

"Well, the scouts have a way to defuse those. We could probably learn it. Though... I was also thinking, maybe I could figure out a way to phase someone through their collars. The problem I keep running into is that it might end up phasing them through all their clothes too, but... you know, if we have to get them out of their collars in a hurry..."

He shrugged. It was a contingency plan, certainly, but it was horrifyingly awkward to even imagine. Just phasing other NEK0 out of their clothes and... looking away? Trying his best to give them some modicum of privacy while they changed back? How would he even explain that to them before doing it?

He would have to apologize so much; he was already getting embarrassed just thinking about it.

"... I'd rather just defuse them though."
