Private The New Normal

Somehow the awkward pause from him was enough to crack another smile out of Leo.

"Probably for the best." He said simply, with a small chuckle. "It can't be that hard for us to figure out, right?"

His smiled seemed to fade a little as he considered, he pulled one of his knees up close to his chest as he mumbled quietly to himself.

"Our intelligence is the only good thing they gave us, after all." His ears flattened back against his head a little.

His lips tugged back into a smile.

"Yes, you're right, of course." He said, tail standing up behind him. "Their days are numbered, especially with the scouts looking for them as well. The fuckers won't last long."

He allowed himself another small laugh at his language, enjoying how liberating it felt. Talk like this would never have been allowed back when he was enslaved. Any talk at all with the other rentals he was around were a lot more hushed, lest their masters caught wind of it.

"I'm...glad we can talk like this," He mused, glancing up at the ceiling as he considered. "It's strange to get used to. I imagine it's a lot more normal for all our peers."

It was the impression he got listening in on coversations around the academy or spending time around Rhett, at least.

"I guess I should feel lucky."
