The woods were perhaps the most favored place Cross liked to be. He got to catch monkeys that stole burgers from him and nobody objected to him catching his own meals. It made him feel so manly that he could uproot trees and pounce upon anything deemed dangerous in the area without being reprimanded for it. Better yet, he could release the Wolf here just because there wasn’t a person he could possibly hurt.
He loved knowing that he was the best of the best! Even if he got into huge amounts of trouble, nobody could best him and everyone knew who he was!...Okay, that stupid cat will eventually get his someday, BUT HE WAS STILL THE BEST. Yes, he was still brooding over that ridiculous chase and because of that, he ended up having to clean up the mess he spread throughout the entire campus. That took forever to clean and the day had been practically wasted thanks to the damage. Well, it was better than being in detention for the rest of his life like he was threatened with if he didn’t do what they asked of him. He was smart enough to know that was probably a really bad thing.
Right now he was busy hunting, searching for creatures to put to shame or better yet eat! He was out in the woods for hours doing just that, burning off the pent up energy from being stuck in school all the time. Today was different. As the sun began to set over the horizon, the shadows began to stretch, casting an ominous feel over the woods. This was the best time to hunt! Most nocturnal creatures were deadly and…weird-looking. This evening though was different…Very Different.
The winds shifted and he picked up another scent, something he hadn’t picked up for a very long time. How was that possible??? He had been all over the campus. He should have known…
That there was another wolf. He was prowling tonight; just like Cross was. The adrenaline began to work slowly into his system. He wasn’t terrified or upset. He was excited. †Hey why don’t you come out!...Or are you too chicken, huh?!†He shouted to no one in particular. He couldn’t see the other wolf, but Cross knew he was out there somewhere.
