Sev sat in a wagon, his eyes at his weapons as he tried his best to keep them ready. His sword and shield in his lap as he looked up and around. For this hunt he only brought one person. Someone who he trusted more than anything. Though he would never tell her that. He closed his eyes as if praying for a bit before the wagon stopped.

"Alright, our hunt is a dragon. Though it's young. This should be easy for you and I." He spoke out loud before the carriage came to a stop. He began to start up camp. Creating a small tent for two people and a few supplies in a box as he dawned his armor. Ensuring the straps where tight and all. Though it seemed like he was taking his time, he wasn't he was in a hurry. This was a big job. Something to bring in money for himself and pay for the bills.

He finished up with some help as he rolled his shoulder. His body was a little weak from the last hunt he went on where he was shot by his closest friend and the one person he deemed so much more, but is too prideful to admit it. He felt sluggish as well as could feel his body writhing in agony while in the armor. He sat down on a log and took a few deep breaths. Trying to hide his pain behind preparing, though to anyone who knew him well.

Would easily spot it.

Reina was dozing off. Her armor was familiar and comforting, so much so that she felt like sleeping in it. Her trusty gunlance, sharpened to a perfect point, was resting beside her as she used the ridge of the wagon as a very stiff, very shaky pillow.

It had been a while since they'd done a hunt like this--Sev had gotten pretty badly hurt in their last hunt, though it wasn't because of their foe. Something about him just made her accidentally fire into him, even though she wasn't aiming at him. What an annoying power.

As the wagon came to a stop, Reina shook herself awake and slid off the wagon, taking her weapon and a belt of ammo for the gun. The shells were small enough that she could carry an anomalously large amount of ammo, so she'd never worried about running out before. She glanced at Sev, then quickly glanced away. Even though he was attractive enough without his armor, something about the prepared for battle look his armor gave him made her feel...

Jittery.

Even then, she could sense something wasn't quite right. This was far from their first hunt, but his countenance seemed off. The way he went about setting up camp with a weary slump of the shoulder and an unnerving amount of breaks.

"Hey," she said, hands resting on her hips. "You're still hurt from last time, aren't you?"

He closed his eyes for a moment just to relax. His left hand on his right shoulder as he cursed lightly to himself. Wincing a bit at the pain it still gave him. Though Reina gave him a jolt when she talked to him. He looked up and did his best to look like nothing was wrong.

"Not at all." He felt her hand on his shoulder. It felt... Good to have her hand on his shoulder again. It was a while since she last did this. He lightly placed a hand on hers. To attempt to reassure her. "Just some old injuries from when i was younger acting up."

He said with a smile under his helmet. He looked at Reina with a sigh. He really missed seeing her with our her armor. Seeing her as she was not under everything, her handling a weapon made him uneasy sometimes, for fear of what to come, that she was in his shoes. Getting injured and taking risks was his job as the teacher. As the eldest. It was his job to ensure those younger than him to be alive.

"I promise Reina. I'm fine. Regardless. We should move out soon. This beast ain't gunna wait forever. Unlike me." He stated. Putting his shield on and taking his sword in hand. He dawned his Pandemonium's Requiem. His greatest weapon in his arsenal.

And also the only weapon that he used when he was injured. Or when he was worried. Others were used for fun or for anything interesting. This was used to protect himself and Reina only.

She frowned deeply at what he said, because it felt uncharacteristic. Hunts like this were easy for her teacher. She'd seen him take down monsters as large as cities on his own and barely break a sweat. He'd stopped, mid-battle, to put her elsewhere while he finished the battle because she's gotten too hurt to stand. He was caring, but he was free spirited, goofy, nothing was supposed to be hard for her teacher. That was how things were. That's how things were supposed to be.

It occurred to her, for perhaps the first time, that her teacher probably wouldn't hunt forever. She would be on her own then. What would she do? She couldn't take on monsters like her teacher. Even after years of practice, that first look at a monster still managed to make her lock up in fear for a few moments.

A deep breath. She left her hand under his for a moment before steeling herself and following her teacher. Reina had a map of her own, but Sev was more familiar with their target and its... 'migration patterns'.

"Alright then. Don't think this conversation is done, though. We're still talking about this when we get home."

Sev was a master at what he did. Hell. He'd even say he was the best. He'd taken down harder monsters on his own. He spent most of his natural life alone. Most of what he was, was a wolf in story, he felt like he had no place in the world. The hunt was his life. Evening hunting those of his own kind. He took a moment to gather his mind. Sev still had one monster he wanted to hunt, the one that almost destroyed him for good. Though being on the island was a chance to learn and redeem himself. To stop those who want to hurt civilization.

He held her hand lightly. Just to do his best to make her feel better. He always felt some kind of connection between them, it wasn't just teacher and student. Though he never acted on it or left like it was necessary.

"There is nothing to talk about Reina. You don't gotta worry about me darlin'. I always stand tall no matter what." Big words came from him as he looked pulled out a map of the area. Of what he was able to map out on his own. It was the same as Reina's detailed and set into 8 different areas.

"Our target is gunna be young wyvern, though if we do enough damage, it should leave on it's own. We might not have to kill it to get the city safe." He stated. Pointing at area two, right beside where they were. It was a forested area that had a river. His weapon was geared for it. The sword he held emanated with dark energy that was said to destroy stars in a single strike, though he knew that legends weren't always to believe it.

"Alright.. Here's what we are going to do, at any giving time, we are to be on either side, if it targets you, either run or let me get it's attention. I can speak to it so I can insult it's mother or something and things will go fine."

He smirked under his helm.

He stood up and started to move to the next area.

Reina carried her gunlance on her back. It was a heavy thing to hold in her hands, and she would have a hell of a time trying to maneuver in case anything came out to jump at them if she constantly had it at the ready. As they walked, she listened to her master's plan and found herself frowning as he described his plan.

"So... I'm just gonna be letting you handle this then?"

She seemed to huff. If she wanted someone else to handle all her fights for her, then she might as well've just stayed in her home fishing village. What had even been the point of her coming out here, following her master's footsteps, if all those years of comraderie and buildup amounted to her just... running around and dodging, and not even using her weapon?

Ultimately, she knew what he was doing. He just wanted to protect her. If she was another girl, then she would find this noble, or even sweet. But it felt.. condescending. Maybe the real reason is that he was mad at her for shooting him at point blank range that one time, but in her defense, he jumped in front of her.

Whatever.

"Fine. Whatever. I'll do your plan."

"Not at all Reina. I need you to be the main damage dealer. I can keep it's attention. Hopefully it's brain isn't fully developed and I can just insult the shit out of it. This is your time to shine." He smiled brightly under his helm.

"this is for you to have to fun and deal damage." He said. Walking a bit faster as he dropped to his knees close to where the monster is. Holding side. Taking a deep breath before getting back up. He wasn't willing to let his injuries get the best of him as he took out a vial a yellow liquid and took a drink from it.

He felt better. His body was free of wounds or injuries and he felt like his stamina was at it's peek performance. He rushed in as he saw a beast with wings and legs. Looking at Sev as he yelled out.

"C'on ya filthy asshat! you're mom is a load that your grandma should have swallowed!"

Though he yelled it. His shield was up bracing as the beast charged him and opened it's mouth, his shield hand covered by the mouth of it as it went to bite at it. Sevenus trying his best to struggle against it. Keeping his own ground as he started to swear heavily.

Reina was surprised. She hasn't been the primary damage dealer since.... well... damn, she couldn't remember when. Had it ever happened? Had Sev ever actually handed off damage dealing duties entirely to her? Her warrior heart swelled with pride, but that also set off more alarm bells. If he was handing off damage completely to her, then that meant that he probably couldn't deal damage himself.

She bit the inside of her cheek. The conversation had been shelved, so she didn't want to bring it up again, but now she was concerned. In situations when she hadnt been relegated to defense duty and parrying shots (her gunlance shield was very sturdy, and the ability to shoot while guarding was a bonus), they'd always fought together.

As they approached the young wyvern's stomping grounds, she ate some jerky and braced herself.

The Wyvern was as unhappy as she'd expected and when Sev yelled, she immediately took off, accelerating to her top speed in an instant to cross the rocky clearing. She moved to its back to flank it and drew her lance, immediately feeling incumbered by its weight. There'd be no dodging here.

She pierced the young wyvern with the end of her lance, firing off her gun with each poke.

Sev did his best to keep the wyvern occupied. Yelling at it as loud as he could. His eyes swelling with rage as it was chomping down his shield. Taking a swing at it with his sword as the it hit a black mist was created.

"C'on ya overgrown mantle piece!" He yelled out loud when the beast tried to move it's attention to Reina. "come get me!"

Though the beast had pulled off from the shield it took a step back, showing it's neck to Reina as it started to create a fireball in it's mouth. It's eyes on Sev as he pulled up his shield. He was praying to the gods or what ever was watching over him. He took a deep breath. Hiding behind his shield as the fireball was launched.

"Reina! now!" He yelled out. He hoped that she knew what to do. His body braced as the fireball hit the shield. For a moment it looked like the shield held the ball before it exploded. Tossing Sev into a cliff. His body hitting it and slumping to the ground, his sword landing right beside it as he was knocked breathless. His vision dazed as he was watching what was unfolding. The Wyvern walking to him. Taking slow methodical steps.

Hunting it's own pray.

The weakest of the two.

Sev.

Reina was doing her best behind the wyvern. Mixing in shots of various strengths into he slashes and stabs, she could tell that she was at least slowly wearing it down. When the wyvern turned its attention to her, she started to back down, bringing up her own metal shield in response, rather than running. She figured that a charged shot to the face from a guarded position would be enough to stagger the beast.

Come on, just a little bit--

Then Sev got its attention again.

It happened quickly; a loosed fireball, an explosion her master crumpled on the ground as the monster ignored her completely in favor of trying to devour her teacher.

Now, logically speaking, the gunlance was a very different beast from the lance. Its added gun gave it the ability to fire shots, but the added weight of the gun made it lose the lance's ability to do a wild charge, slamming the full brunt of the lance's long hard conical body into the enemy for extreme damage.

But Reina wasn't a normal lance user. Her ability to accelerate meant that she could still do a charge. It wasn't a wild charge, but more like....

Running up to a monster and stabbing it with a fork.

She sheathed her weapon, and felt the ground under her feet before running as fast as she cold toward the Wyvern. It wasn't paying any attention to her, really--it was fully focused on her master with its head low to skulk towards Sev, it was an easy target.

As she got closer to her prey, she unsheathed her Gunlance. It was impossible for her to keep running that fast, but her built up momentum and sharp gunlance was more than enough.

It pierced the wyvern's throat, almost coming out the other side.

The baby screamed, and flailed wildly in agony, as its heart sent its own blood splattering over the rocky plain. Reina tried to keep her feet planted, and managed to free her gunlance from its neck before the Wyvern let out a gurgling death roar.
