Fiddling with his pocket watch and lightly tapping his foot, Monday glanced around himself, reading the posters on the walls, counting the tiles on the ceiling, and just feeling a teensy bit nervous as he waited impatiently for the social worker to appear.

Gabriel had not really expected to be chosen as a foster parent, someone to take in a Neko. He had filled out the papers on a whim when he had heard about the need for people willing to take them in and provide them with a safe and secure environment. And even when they'd called him back for an exhaustive interview and later a house inspection along with informative classes regarding NEKOs. Monday still wasn't too sure that they'd actually allow a single man, a cursed witch at that, to be a foster parent.

So when he had received a letter a week ago, along with a phone call last night, telling him he could come and meet, and take home his charge, he was extremely surprised and elated, and yes, nervous too. An irrational fear that something might happen, that somehow the Endless Sea would take him like it had his family persisted.

Thankfully, Candle, stoic as always, had in a way calmed his fears with her calm nature and her innate ability to put the logic in the illogical.

Soon, the social worker, who looked strong enough to snap Monday in half, came to meet Monday in the waiting room. He led him back to a small room which was sometimes used for meetings. Now, it was to be used for the first time Monday would meet his charge. On the way there, the social worker apologized again for the circumstances. Normally they would have driven Ganymede out themselves, but there were all these issues with the roads, and arranging transportation was such a mess, but they didn't want to wait until February to give Ganymede his new home. These were all things Monday would have heard already.

The social worker led Monday through the door, into the room where Ganymede was waiting. Ganymede, for his part, was sharply dressed for the occasion. When Monday came into the room, he stood up from his seat, beaming. "Hi, it's nice to meet you! I'm Ganymede!"

The social worker, for his part, was surprised. He donned an unsure smile of his own, wondering when the kid got this happy.

Honestly? Ganymede wasn't really feeling as happy as he looked. He felt anxiety, and maybe even a little bit of fear. But to him, this was just like meeting prospective buyers in the past. A few major details were different, of course, but the core ideas were the same to him. He wanted to make a good first impression. He didn't want them giving him back again.

But he also felt hope.

Monday instantly turned his attention to the door when it opened, and saw the social worker, who was a barrel of a man and somebody Monday would not ever wish to tangle with, enter the room.

Following him through the building to where Ganymede was waiting, Monday nodded when the social worker apologized. "Not to worry, I quite understand, the snow has made the city difficult to navigate," he said.

Finally, when they came to the room in question, and before either man could really say anything, a small figure introduced himself almost immediately. Taken in and surprised by such cheerful candor, Monday couldn´t help but grin.

"Hello, Ganymede, I'm Monday," Gabriel replied, smiling at the neko and for the first time really taking in his appearance. Ganymede was, with his cat-like ears, tail and bright blue eyes, quite simply - adorable. And for some inexplicable reason, he reminded Monday of his sister, Cynthia. Maybe it was the perkiness, the look of hope on his face, or maybe it was just the way he held himself. Gabriel wasn't sure, but there was something about him that made Monday think of his late sister.

"I was hoping that perhaps you'd like to come home with me today?" he told Gany, a hopeful look on his face as he asked, but not at all wanting to force the child to come with him if he didn't want to.

"Yes, sir!" Ganymede only seemed happier. Though he didn't know it would be a question. "It's nice to finally meet you, Mr. Monday." He bowed a little bit.

The social worker was starting to realize why Ganymede was acting this way, remembering what he'd been told about the boy's past. It bothered him a little, but only a little. Could be worse.

Ganymede still didn't really know what to make of this guy yet. After bowing, he stared at him, studying how he acted and how he carried himself.

Monday sort of chuckled when Ganymede bowed, and ran a hand through his own hair, trying hard not to fidget too much or too obviously, even though he needed to keep up some type of movement to his body lest it started to stiffen.

"You don't need to call me Mister, Ganymede, Monday is just fine," he told him with a warm smile as he looked at the social worker now. "Is there anything I need to know or sign before we leave," he asked, keen to leave but not wanting to appear rude or impatient.

"Okay, Monday." He nodded, still looking cheerful.

All the paperwork was done, the social worker assured him. Normally they would have just taken Ganymede over to Monday's home and let them start that tour, but, with the weather being what it was... well, they'd already been over that.

Ganymede was just as ready to get this show on the road as Monday. He had a big suitcase to bring home with him - school uniforms, and some things he was able to keep from his old life. Clothes, mostly. He wanted to roll it out himself, but if Monday insisted, Ganymede would let him take it.

Ganymede wouldn't speak unless spoken to, as they made it all the way back to Monday's home.

As soon as they were told they were allowed to leave, Monday thanked the social worker and helped Ganymede with his suitcase, which was almost bigger than he was, out to one of the taxis waiting outside the building.

After a short ride from the centre to his shop and the somewhat roomy two-storey flat style apartment above it, Monday took the suitcase and lead Ganymede up the fairly narrow stairs up to the second floor.

"Here we are," he said in a cheery tone as he opened the main door and then stood to the side to let Ganymede in first. Then once he was in, Monday closed the door and set his suitcase down for a moment.

"Your room is upstairs," he told Gany as he put the keys in a bow by the entrance. "We'll go up in a moment," he explained, "I just wanted to show you the apartment first," he added as he showed Gany the apartment which was fairly bright and decorated in clean neutral tones with the odd pop of colour to give it warmth.

"Oh, and Candle, my friend and assistant, also lives here with us," Monday told Ganymede, not exactly sure how much they had actually told him about Monday.

Monday lived in an apartment over a store, and it had two floors. It definitely wasn't as big or secluded as the places he used to live, or as luxurious. It didn't bother him too much. He rarely got to enjoy the luxuries of the places he lived in, and more space meant more cleaning to do. But at the same time, a part of him missed it.

Whenever Monday looked at Ganymede, Ganymede would always smile back. Posture always perfect, always alert, attentive to everything Monday showed or told him. It was relentless, like he was not so much a boy as a doll or a statue.

However, the comment about Candle being his "assistant" made his cat ears perk up. Now Ganymede had to ask questions. "What does Candle assist with?"

And then, "When will I get to meet them?"

As Monday showed him around the first floor part of the apartment, telling him to feel free to anything in the kitchen and to just make himself at home, Ganymede asked about Candle almost immediately after Monday had mentioned her.

"Well," Monday replied thoughtfully, fidgetting as he normally did, "I guess you could say she helps me out in the store and around the house, and when I do any scrying or magic that requires an extra hand," he replied truthfully, knowing she had been invaluable when he had scried for the source of all this crazy snow.

"And..." here he looked at his pocket watch, surprised at the time. It was already a little after three, "You will meet her soon, the shop closes at five, sometimes six if we are busy," he explained patiently, sort of wondering now if everything had been okay while he was gone.

The fidgeting was starting to get to Ganymede. It seemed... unhealthy. Like a symptom of something. But his mind didn't have much time to dwell on that.

Monday sometimes needed help with magic! Ganymede made a tiny excited gasp, his face lighting up a little bit beyond the mask he wore. He would wait until Monday had finished explaining the situation before piping up again: "I could probably help with magic, too! My master was a warlock, and he taught me some."

Gany still remembered his master fondly, and he was proud of all the magic he knew about. Even if some of it was unpleasant for him, it made him special. A prize even among the other NEK0s.

He didn't react to the part about the store, but it made sense that Monday owned the store he lived over. Gany wondered how he would be helping out around the store, since it made more sense to him that he would than that he wouldn't.
