Stormy Days (Open)

Rain pitter pattered onto the sidewalks and roads of Manta Carlos' city, the sky above dark. What started out as a light rain had quickly turned into a brewing storm, threatening to crack down on the island at any moment. While most people would stay indoors during a storm such as this, there was a rather tall someone standing there, staring up at the sky with anticipation.

Ears twitched and swiveled around as he stood, everything else about him motionless. He almost didn't seem effected by the rain at all, really. The only effect the rain had on him was it was making him wet; soaked, really.

What was he even doing?

Murphy glared up at the rain clouds above. It wasn't a good rain, no. This was the kind of rain that brought nothing but bad luck and misery to the people it fell upon, the kind that soaked through the heaviest coats and left a lasting chill that made you slightly uncomfortable all day. He flipped the quarter in his right hand and caught it on his left, Heads again, he thought and continued down the street, tucking his head down out of the downpour.

Up ahead he could make out the figure of someone just standing in the middle of the sidewalk, staring upwards. They didn't look human, judging by the ears, but in the last three days he'd been here he'd seen enough demons, aliens, biological experiments and otherworldly creatures that he was no longer sure ANYONE was a human anymore. As he approached he pocketed the coin and cupped his hands to his mouth to shout over the wind. “Oi! Shouldn't you be inside or something?”

Ears came to attention as someone called to him. Looking down to the other, he took a moment to figure out a response. Opening his mouth, he went to speak. However, closing it again, he re-thought his sentence. Would it be wise to tell someone he is waiting for lightning to strike him? Finally shrugging his shoulders, the tall being spoke.

"I'm waiting for a bolt to hit me." The way he said it was so simple. While most people would be shocked by such a sentence, this one said it as if it was normal. To him, however, it was perfectly normal. "That and I'm absorbing the static in the air." He shrugged again, looking back up to the sky in waiting.

Murphy came up short as he drew close. The guy was really, really tall, and if his outfit was anything to go by, he probably wasn't bothered by the rain. “Waiting for a bolt to hit you... like a lightning bolt?” He ran some quick math; not much could stand up to 100 million to 1 billion volts of electricity coursing through their body... yeah, definitely not human, maybe some sort of storm spirit? “Well uh, if you're looking to get struck I think you might have better luck standing atop one of the buildings?”

He gave the man another look. The guy looked younger than him, but if so not by much. Other than that it was impossible to tell much about him other than he looked like one of the ravers that hung around the nightclub constantly. “You new here too?” he ventured.

Moving his gaze from the sky to the top of one of the buildings, the creature nodded. That was probably the best bet, but that required him getting up there. Suppose he could just float up there, but he already had such a little amount of electricity stored that it would just be silly to do so. With a light humm, he shrugged his shoulders again.

Then the other man spoke again.

"Huh? New here?" The Krilbrit scratched behind one of his ears in thought. "Well, not really. I've been on the island for quite a while now." Putting his hand back to his side, he smiled some what. "Did some schooling here. Though, I didn't really get out for much."

The tall one turned to face the other man fully, sticking out his hand. A wide smile came across his face as he spoke again. "The name's Whiver, by the way. Whiver Zolts."

Murphy glanced up at the sky nervously, with his luck the bolt the guy was looking for would strike upon shaking his hand. “Murphy, pleasure to meet ya, forgive me for not shaking hands.” he grinned apologetically, “Don't wanna get myself sparked... again.” He tilted his head curiously before continuing “Schooling? What are you in for? Er, I mean what brought you to the island I mean.” he clarified quickly.

No hand shake? That was fine. Whiver put his hand back to his side, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. What brought him here? Well, that was easy. "Well, I got a letter to go to school here. When it's education, shelter, and power for free it's hard to say no." he replied.

Looking back to the sky, he watched a bolt strike up high. Frowning slightly, it looked like he would have to go up on top of one of the buildings. Guess he'd have to do that later, or forego the storm and go for a generator.

"What about you? What brought you here?"

“I'm here for much the same reason you are I suppose. Free education, free lodging, free food... and maybe I'm just self conscious but most people here are built like bloody supermodels.” He remembered the pair of succubi he'd passed earlier that day, sure everyone here was still way out of his league, but at least here the scenery was better. “Well, that and I'm hoping they can help me get a wrangle on my er, 'gifts'.”

The rain was getting worse, and he could already feel the rain had soaked through his jacket and probably ruined the last of his cigarettes. Ah well, small price to pay for free room and board, and access to an island that didn't show up on any map or in any book. “Sorry if I'm a tad rude but uh, what are you?” It was less socially graceful than he really could have been but the question had been bugging him since he'd seen the man. "Some sort of electricity elemental or something?"

Rude? Nah, that question was far from it. With a laugh, Whiver shook his head. "Nah, not a Electricity Element itself. I'm a Krilbrit," he replied, putting his hands in his pockets. "I'm not surprised that you don't know what I am. My species originates from and usually stay in the sky, but I sort of... fell out of it... during a drought." He laughed nervously at his own words.

"I would be up there myself, but it's hard to stay up in the sky when you have very little energy stored and no tribe to return to."

Murphy raised a brow, a race that subsisted on electricity as their sole source of... well, everything? “Ah, er, sorry to hear about your tribe.” He realized he was at a loss of what to say, how the hell was one supposed to follow up on 'everyone I know isn't there any more'? “Well uh, if you need energy do you want to see if we can get you up onto one of the buildings? If nothing else I'm willing to bet the academy will let us up if we let 'em know what's going on....”
