"So, you're basically a servant to Eldon? You do everything he asks of you and in return you get shelter and food?" That was cruel in a way. Was Na'afian kept as servant his entire life? "Have you been doing this your entire life? Didn't you have any friends? Any fun?"

Ember was almost about to ask how he knew she was a pyro before remembering that her name was the biggest give away. "It's nice to meet you too."

Ember could see the cottage clearly now, and upon seeing it, got slightly shaken. She couldn't show that she was slightly afraid of the unknown that awaited before them. She was trembling slightly on the inside, but kept her cool on the outside; she couldn't let Nitar know that, she was already scared and Ember had to be brave for the both for them.

She could hear a voice, one that was quite angry, and seemed to be yelling at someone, but she never heard a second voice, just that one, the one of Eldon. Was he talking to himself? Was that even Eldon?

Na'fian thought a moment. He never thought of being called a servant, then he shook his head a little. "I choose this life, I choose to do things for Eldon, I don't mind it, I enjoy it." He said, wondering a moment. As they past a stack of wood, that was chopped, Na'fian leaned against it, looking at the house.

"There he is again... hm... he's always talking to himself, he never talks to me... but why should he, he doesn't even know how much I hear and learn." He said, in a slightly angry tone then shook his head. "And yes, I have lived like this all my life, its more comforted then beyond the woods... but no, I have no friends, nor family, but I have fun, I have a lot to do in the woods, but I'm free to leave whenever, but I don't want to."

Nitar looked at the boy. "You have no friends? Do you try to get any?" She asked, wondering slightly, but his only response was a shake of a head, that most likely meant no.

"Will you go in the house, or stay out here?" She asked again, and once more he shook his head. "Why?"

"Because, like I said, I don't want to be brought up in what you want to talk about, I don't want to get punished by him, punishment isn't like a normal one, like being banned from certain things, being punished by him if frightening."

Why on earth would someone choose to live like that? "I don't believe you." Ember said, bluntly. It was true, she didn't believe him. He might have been telling the truth, or he might not have been, but she just couldn't believe that he wanted to live the rest of his life like that.

She noted the anger in his tone when he mentioned how Eldon never talked with him. Another reason why he shouldn't stay. Being all alone with no one to talk to, being so solitary? It just didn't seem right. But then again, why did Ember care? Na'afian was just someone she met, who didn't care about what she thought."What else is there to do in these woods except chop wood? Especially if your all alone with no one to talk to. How can you stand being such a hermit?"

"How do you know how he punishes someone? She asked curiously. "I thought you said he never talked to you."

"Believe what you want, but its how I live." He said, in a dull voice, but a small smirk was on his face. "Theres a lot to do, a lot of places to explore, and many different things, like werewolves, I've ran into a couple of those myself, I find it fun to meet them, though, they like to stay killing me, but, I guess its fun to play." When he said that, his eyes gleamed evilly.

"I also have fun with the fire, I loved fire, one day I just was able to tear fire away from another fire, and do whatever I want with it, its fun experimenting with it, and with no one to talk to, many people wander through the woods, I sometimes will maybe chat with them, but I mostly just make sure no one comes to Eldon's cottage."

He thought a moment then continued. "He doesn't talk to me, unless he has something little to tell me, but he will sometimes, but its been a long time since he even noticed me, I'm almost afraid he's going back to work with them, but I still hear a lot, and I've seen a lot, I've seen him punish people who have come here." He said, shivering slightly.

Any sympathetic feeling she had towards Na'afian was gone. She could tell he liked doing nothing and being invisible, something she couldn't bear. And plus, that evil smile of his drove her insane. "Yeah, there's a whole lot to do," Ember said. You'd have had to have been deaf not to note the sarcasm in her voice. "Well, with your age, I'd have gotten bored with wandering through the woods over and over and over again. not to mention doing it all alone, talk about being anti-social."

Ember was no longer afraid, but angry, in a way. She wasn't sure why exactly, but she just was. "Out of all the people you've 'chatted' with, haven't you ever met a girl who struck your fancy? Someone you wanted to get to know better but couldn't because you wanted to protect your dear old Eldon."

The way Na'afian mentioned them, Ember was intruiged. "Them? Whose them?"

Na'fian smiled, an amusing smile. She didn't like how he lived his life. He turned around and bent over, taking a piece of unchopped wood, and set it on a bigger log, then he grabbed an axe, lifted it, then brought it down hard, and it cut the smaller log in half.

"Its just.... how I chose to live right now, I have a long way to go, to see if I want to do something else, why does it bother you so much?" He asked, glancing over at Ember a moment, then returned to chopping wood. "And a girl, hm... I've met a few, none that sparks my interest... Maybe if I went to town more often, but I don't like the towns and cities, except the one Nitar came from, I go there often, nice place, nice people, but sometimes boring." He said, as he worked.

"I like it here, I was raised here, Eldon raised me, he was and is the only family I know of." He said, then looked at Ember, as if it was obvious who they were.

"They are ones who start everything, why so many people are... in danger, like Nitar, they were the ones who took her, it was them who killed her mother, it was them who took Nesthora after killing her father, it was th-" He stopped short when a angry voice called his name, and his jaw dropped open, then he closed it, and stood straighten. He then turned and ran to the cottage and went in.

Nitar stood still. Her mother. Dead. He knew where her village was, but before she could talk, he ran inside, and she heard raised voices.

She watched as Na'afian chopped wood and thought. See? How on earth is that entertaining?. Ember remained quiet for a moment. Why did it bother her so much? She didn't know, it was just...annoying. "It doesn't bother me...it's just...well, annoying how you don't live your life to the fullest when you can."

He actually went to towns? he actually socialized. ember could barely believe what she heard. "So, what was Nitar's town like? Where is Nitar's town?" Maybe if he told them where her town was, they could go there instead of Eldon and then talk to Nitar's mother, and find out who she really is.

Ember rolled her eyes as he told her that Eldon was the one who raised him and took care of him. Some caretaker...doesn't even talk to him. Ember noticed the stare he gave her and glared at him in return as if it was not obvious.

Ember swallowed hard. They killed Nitar's mother. She looked over at Nitar, giving her a sympathetic expression. They are to blame for everything that had happened to Nitar and to Nesthora. Before Ember could ask even one word, a loud voice echoed around them, calling for Na'afian. It was him. Eldon.

Out of instinct, Ember quickly grabbed Nitar's arm and pulled her down behind some thick brush so that they were out of sight from the cottage. She was afriad that maybe Eldon had spotted them. The raised voices that were coming form the cottage did no help at easing her nerves.

Nitar followed Ember behind the bush, and listened to the voices. She heard Na'fian saying something about not being able to trade today, but she couldn't quite get it out, they were to far away to hear. She sat on the ground, not really knowing what to say, she learned her mother was dead, she most likely had no family left. She then wanted to go to her town, to the village she grew up in, she wondered if anyone there would know who she is.

After a while the voices ceased, and the door opened, and Na'fian walked out, a bit angry, but he looked calm, like usual. She watched him as he looked over the place they had stood a moment ago, and he glanced at the bush, but didn't know where they were. He picked up his ax and starting chopping wood.

"So you know, I didn't have much time to answer you, but her town is a days walk, but on horse back from here to there, will take half a day." Na'fian said, as if he knew where they were.

Ember tired calming herself down mentally, hundreds of What if's buzzing around inside her head. She took a few quiet deep breaths and tried listening to what they were saying. She couldn't make out much, only something about not being able to trade, but she wasn't sure. Then, the voices quieted down, and Na'afian walked out and began chopping wood.

He told them that it would take a day to get to Nitar's hometown, half a day by horseback. Ember moved away from the brush so that he could see her and said, "What was that all about?" After thinking it over, she looked at Nitar and whispered, "Do you want to go to your hometown, or to Eldon?" it was all up to Nitar, and Ember would follow her to wherever she wanted to go.

Na'fian grunted slightly, a bit annoyed. "Nothing, he just wanted to know why I haven't traded for special roots yet, he likes those roots, but I can only get them from Sheeva who lives in the village Nitar comes from, I'm supposed to go there when I can, and trade some..." He said, glancing their way, watching Ember and Nitar come from behind the bush.

"If you want to go to your village, I will be happy to lead you there soon, if we left in a hour or so, we should make it there a little past dawn... but, that is if you want to go... if you do, then I suggest we do it first, then you can visit Eldon... he wouldn't agree to let you go there, it isn't safe, the-so-called-Truebloods are always about." He said, saying the last part with anger.

Nitar looked down, in thought, she didn't know what to choose, she wanted to know so many things that she thought only Eldon knew, but then again, people in the village might know her. Meeting Eldon slightly frightened her, Na'fian says it was him who did this to her, and could do it again most likely. No, she didn't want to see Eldon, not yet. She shook her head a moment then looked up, her wings adjusted slightly.

"I want to see my hometown first." She said, her voice clear, no fear that she felt was in it, though it was slightly strange, and she felt a little weird, like someone was trying to get out, but it left quickly.
