Anything looking up into the sky this fine day would see a rather peculiar sight, as one Vapor von Rauch had decided that it need to 'stretch it's legs' so to speak. What this meant was that it had grown rather bored with their human form and needed to revert to something more familiar and go out for a little jaunt flying about the sky. This of course leads to a rather dark and smokey cloud darting back and for around the city, hassling anything foolish enough to get too close to it. Anyone listening very carefully might have even heard one of the most inhuman laughs following it's little joy ride.

This eventually, as most things do for it, got rather boring so it decided to venture out beyond the city limits and head into the surrounding wooded areas. Up until this point it had never really ventured outside of the city limits, it had no need to of course, but today was a day for new and exciting things. It was here that the sentient smog cloud was hoping to find some form of wild life or various other meat creature things to bother.

Flying up high in an attempt to avoid detection by the things, otherwise know as targets from this point on, scampering around on the ground von Rauch started to scope out the area for it's next victim. Would it harass a deer maybe, go bother a bear or something perhaps, or better yet singe the whiskers off of a rabbit? Hell, it could even potentially just start a forest fire to watch the thing burn! The possibilities where absolutely endless!

After lazily floating around in the sky for a bit, lost in it's own thoughts of chaos and potential destruction, Vapor noticed something rather large and human shaped below causing a bit of a commotion. It wondered what exactly was going on down there, and without a moments hesitation it decided to float in for a closer look.

One way or another Vapor von Rauch felt that this was going to be an interesting turn of events for it today.

This was a horrible place. There was always noise on this island. Here, it was chirruping and wind, at the apartment it was the constant hum of electricity and passing cars and it gave her a headache. What was wrong with these people? How could they live like this?

Emelissé stood on the edge of a small cliff that bordered the island. She let the white dress slip from her shoulders, sliding down her skin to bunch around her ankles. The woman took a deep breath, letting the air play across her skin before neatly tucking the dress into a tree hollow.

The water was salty, but it was good enough for washing and private enough no one would find her. Emelissé dove into the water and began cleaning her hair.

Well now this was interesting, here in front of it a little distance off was one of the meat creatures apparently going for a bath! That in itself was not what garnered its interest as they tended to do that often, what did peek von Rauch's curiosity was the fact that it had gone rather out of the way to hide the garment the human thing had previously been wearing.

The smog cloud floated a bit closer, making sure to stay out of the bathing woman's site as it revert back into a human form. Seeing as it had left all of the clothing it would normally have worn back at home Vapor was forced to convert some of its own mass into clothing, a simple black shirt with a suit jacket and pants combination accompanied with rather plain looking shoes, as it floated above the ground. Heading towards the tree it attempted to not making a sound, as any unwanted attention might bring an end to it's current adventure.

As it approached it wondered what exactly was so special that this dress had to be hidden rather then just hung up or even left on the rocks as most human creatures do with their garments when they decide to go swimming. Was it inlaid with gold maybe, some priceless one of a kind thing, or better yet hold some sort of enchantment? One would never know unless one dared to take a peek after all. Though if it had been worth something why then had this woman just place it in a tree? So many questions, and again only one way to get answers.

When it finally got to the tree in question Vapor reached in and simply took the dress as it seemed that there had been no enchantment, or anything else for that matter other then being poorly hidden, that was actually protecting it from theft. As it inspected the dress though the smoke being started to look rather unimpressed. It was an interesting design maybe, as far as this thing could process human fashion sense beyond the world of suit jackets and accessories, but nothing too far out of the ordinary that facilitated taking care to hide it away.

Well now, you can colour me unimpressed.” it said aloud, not caring about stealth and subtlety at this point. “There apparently was nothing important about your garment after all. It is just another meat shame covering one would assume.”

Draping the dress over an arm it turned to the bathing woman, either unaware or not caring that she was indeed naked before its eyes, and smiled.

Emelissè stood shocked. Standing above her on the rocks was a man of slate grey and pitch black. Draped across his arm.. It couldn't be. She'd made sure no one had been following her. The panic on her face was clearly visible as she waded towards the rocky shore.

"You don't know what that's worth to me. Just put it back in the tree and leave. It has no value to you. That dress is... An heirloom."

Emelissé hoped to any force that would listen that the binding contract would not last if he left the pelt where she had left it. Maybe, just maybe, this didn't mean she was a prisoner here.

Emelissé's expression was full of horror and desperation as she stood beneath Vapor, pleading for him to leave the dress.

The dress had lost all interest to it and Vapor was about to toss it away when those magical words floated into his ears. Apparently while it looked like it would help no value to most people for some reason this dress seemed very important to this woman, heirloom or not, and that instantly now made it very important for von Rauch to own. After all, whatever does not belong to it that should soon will and this dress now fit very snugly into that category.

Well if it is that precious then maybe I should keep hold of it for you!” the sight of her distress at not having this dress was bringing on that feeling in the smoke monster, the warm fuzzy one that he only ever got when stealing stuff or drinking alcohol. “We never know what kind of monster is out there who would deprive you of it of course, other then myself of course.”

It winked at the woman and held up the dress, looking at it even closer now. What was it that made her want it back so much? There had to be something! Tucking it back over its arm Vapor turned all attention back on the woman. The urge to keep it became overwhelming!

Yes, I do think keeping it myself for safety sake is the best course of action in this case. You understand of course my dear?” It paused for a second before continuing to speak. “What do I call you exactly?”

Emelissè tripped over herself scrambling up the path on the side of the cliff. This couldn't be happening. After all the care she'd taken... After all the meticulous care in raising her sisters... She was the one who was caught by the binding tradition.

"Please. You have no idea what you're doing. That skin, it has a curse on it. My curse. If you take it, I'll never be able to swim agian. I'll never be able to fly. I'dbe trapped her on this godforsaken island with no way to defend myself from the creeps and the murderers and the rapists. Please, just give it back."

Emelissé dropped to her knees at the top of the cliff, her hair covering up the pale skin of her chest. She knew there was no way she could get home like this, in such an indecent state.

Letting out a rather drawn out sigh, the smoke creature just shook its' head sadly. This particular meat thing before it seemed rather self centered, worried only about this ratty dress. What was even worse was that fact it was ignoring that Vapor had, rather politely it might add, asked it a very simple question. Such things were going to have to be remedied.

First off that was very rude!” it said, trying to keep the tone of voice some what pleasant if not slightly upset. The eyes though were as cold and distant as could be. “I asked what to call you and instead of a name I get this inane rambling! THIS. WILL. NOT. DO!”

Vapor gripped the dress tighter, as apparently it was getting more and more important by the second. Cursed she had told it, important to her as well. How did the two go hand in hand? How would it stop her from doing the things she desired? It needed to know now, it was almost being an obsession to it!

Secondly, I know very well what I am doing. I am keeping this dress!” it smiled at the swan maiden again, this time it's teeth getting rather sharp and pointy, almost predatory if you will. “And if you do not start answering my questions when asked I just might have to see what happens if I destroy it!”

Von Rauch let out a little jet of flames from between its' teeth to accent this point, though if this one thought it was lying all it had to do was look into the eyes of the smoke monster to see that it was not.

Let us try this again, and remember your precious garment is on the line here!” It looked her dead in the eyes, the smile fading from existence. “First things first, would you be so kind to tell me you name?”

It paused only for a moment before throwing the rest of the questions at her to get it all out of the way before she started to rant on and on again.

Next I would like to know exactly what this curse is, how does it prevents you for doing whatever and the like? What exactly are the conditions of it? A very detailed explanation if you will thank you.” It thought for a moment and then added in one more thing. “Finally, and this is more of a statement then a question, you don't want to swim anyway. Filthy habit!”

Slowly the smile crept back, though a bit more menacing this time.

Emelissè froze, fear overriding logic. She'd just have to put up with him until someone could save her. Someone on the island could fix it... Right? The swan maiden lowered her head in defeat, despair altering the pitch of her voice.

"My name is Emelissé. I am a swan maiden from Ireland. I flew here in search of safe haven, while it became more and more dangerous to live in the forests with humans closing in. My swan skin.. The dress you're holding... That is how I transform between swan and maiden, there is no in between. I cannot fly without it, i cannot dive deep enough to retrieve food without it... It's my life."

Emelissé struggled to come to terms with what was happening. She didn't want to accept him, but if she wanted to keep the potential for a future of freedom, she had to do as he said.

"There's a legend.. amongst the human race.. that if you steal a swan maiden's skin, they'll become your wife. It's not exactly accurate, but it's close enough. We'll do anything to keep our skin safe... Even if it means marrying a monster."

This was getting better and better the more she spoke! All it had to do was keep possession of this dress and he will have stolen the one thing he had probably never had before, a wife! At least that was if those pesky legends were true. One thing about living as long as it had you sometimes get to see how legends start and sometimes they are rather disappointing. Still, this was proving to be very interesting indeed.

So what you are saying my dear Emelissé is that as long as I hold on to this ratty old thing,” it holds up the dress, “I get to keep you?”

Its' eyes burn brightly at this thought, possibly the closest they have been to showing excitement in a long while.

I have never stolen a wife before, this should prove to be entertaining!” Smiling at her it tucks the dress back under its' arm. “I guess I am going to have to worry about food for you then, possibly clothing as well. I am sure this could all be dealt with later on.”

It tilted its' head to the side and regarded the newly acquired wife creature.

So this curse, do you have to do everything I say or do you still have some choice in the matter?” It turned away from the woman and then started to head down the path. “Come now! We can walk and talk at the same time.”

Emelissè stared at the.. Thing in front of her. The more it spoke the more she realised just how... Inhuman it was. How unnatural its existence was. For once in her life, Emelissè was well and truly terrified. This creature didn't come across as the kind to show compassion, or any kind of emotion really.

The Swan maiden stood entirely still. She was at a dead end and she couldn't think of what else she could say. A few steps forward, and the colour began to drain out of her vision. Another few steps and everything went dark. Emelissè crumpled to the ground unconscious at Vapor's feet.
