Spring time.. The time of "happiness"

There was a slight breeze, causing the lake to lap softly against the shore. The trees whispered their secrets to eachother with their newly formed leaves, and flowers filled the air with their scent. The birds trilled joyfully, and all seemed to be rejoicing with the happyness of Spring.

All but one. She was sitting beneath a tree, her face neither happy, nor sad, but her entire person seemed to emit unhappiness. Her long dark hair whipped freely around her face with the breeze, getting into her sad blue eyes every once in a while, but she made no move to brush it away.

She wasn't expecting to see anyone, since it was a day off, and had thus switched from her normally fiery attire to something a little more calm. A black skirt was around her hips, revealing a small bit of white stomach before a black, long sleeved, v-neck shirt covered the rest. A pair of red kid gloves were on her hands, preventing her from mimicing anyone's powers.

She drew a shaking breath, the only outward sign of the turmoil that was going on inside. She didn't understand anything about her life. It seemed that all life liked doing to her was causing her pain, destroying ties to those she gave her heart to. She was about ready to give up on humanity, and life, forever.

She smiled a jaded smile, "Springtime's the time of happiness? Yeah right." she muttered softly, the wind pulling on her words playfully as it danced around her.

A sober man was walking towards the lake, his stormy grey eyes were looking around. His brown hair was flipping around his face with a small wind, his stature tall amongst the trees. He wasn't that tall, but he had a respectful height nonetheless. The man had covered his frame with a brown leather coat. He didn't seem to be bothered by the fact that there didn't seem to be a soul around.

He hadn't seen the woman yet, the one who had been on the earth for nearly as long as he had been, though he didn't know that yet. He gazed upon the lake as he approached, his face showing emotions that were his and his alone. He didn't pocess anything that would have helped him get alerted that there was somebody else in the near vicnity.

Crouching next to the water, he cupped his hands in the cool liquid, not really feeling its coldness. Bringing the water to his face, he rubbed the liquid upon it, trying to refresh his face and only succeeding in matting the short pale fur that covered it. It usually wasn't seen, but if he happened to get wet it all stuck together in weird patterns.

The 'old' man didn't look up and to the side, or surely he would have seen the younger woman there. Luck was on his side though that he was so preoccupied with his memories. Changes of seasons and specific dates allways brought their share of memories. Sitting back on his hunches, he rubbed the bridge of his nose tiredly.

He heard something and looked up, sitting stunned for a moment. There was a woman sitting there, one he should have seen and should have noticed. He was way too distracted these times, last time it had nearly killed him.

At the sight of the man, who didn't notice her, a thin brow raised slightly, but she said nothing.

When he turned and saw her, sitting stunned, a sardonic smirk came onto Valia's lips, and a small chuckle escaped her. "Don't look so shocked. Do I have mud on my face or something?" She shifted her lazy position so that she could see him better, sitting up straighter subconciously in the presence of a person.

The wind whipped her hair into her eyes again, and this time she pulled a leather tie out of a pouch at her hip, tying the unruly strands back to keep them from obstructing her view of this furry person.

In her long years, she had seen many a strange thing, so she wasn't particularily startled by this man's appearance. "Or perhaps I have a tiger above my head?" she continued on, her tone of voice slightly amused, but rather emotionless as the smirk all but disappeared from her face.

"Pardon my slightly unsettling behaviour milady." He told snapping out of his stunned state. "I was merely taken by surprise since I didn't see you. Had I, I would have left you to your musings without disturbing you."

Well, that wasn't exactly right, he would surely not have left, but would have observed her from a little distance. not that he was a voyeur or anything, but he had always admired beautiful things or persons and theis young looking woman was no exception, because indeed, he had decided she was entirely beautiful.

"Dear, if there had been a tiger over you, I would have tried to alert/save you from it." He told matter-of-factly. "And no, there isn't a blemish marking your skin."

He would have, within an heartbeat. It wasn't that he was that sort of person who allways placed another before themself, he was just too gentlemanly to let a ferocious beast attack a woman without doing anything. Even if there was the minor detail of the possibility of him getting killed by said beast. Its not like he would really regret saving her life.

Standing, he dusted himself off a bit self consciously, trying to get the dirt off of his knees. Indeed, he had knelt down to 'rince' his face, not that it had really done any good on him.

"Would you mind some company milady?" He then asked.

(James is adorable)

His politeness was refreshing, to say the least, but at the same time, she found it almost annoying. Her eyes seemed to cloud, covering the sadness with emotionlessness. She shifted her position, pulling her knees to her chest, and attempted to smile, though it didn't do much, mostly just a slight raising of the sides of her mouth.

"Well, I supose I don't mind... But please, my name's Kirvalia, please call me that instead of milady, Sir." she said softly, cocking her head up at him.

He gave her a small smile. He had been in the habit of calling woman milady or miss depending of their status or age for so long that he would not be able to change just for her, yet.

"If you so desire milady Kirvalia." He said.

There was an hint of teasing in his voice, like he was pulling her leg a little but was still serious. He had been calling woman like that from a little over two thousand years, he wasn't about to change his habits.

"My name is James."

Gah, shortness.

She sighed slightly, trying very hard to keep herself from saying something sharp. She didn't feel like she deserved a title. Not did she like being called milady by him, because it made her feel like he was extending ownership.

She flicked emotionless eyes out to the lake, taking a deep breath in an attempt to control her sarcastic replies. And then she flicked her gaze back up to his eyes. "Pleased to make you're aquaintance." she said, not appearing partiularly pleased. Her face was completely emotionless.

She extended her hand towards him, to shake, but a little bit tentative about it, because he wasn't exactly normal for the age she was in. Her heart was feeling particularily low, since the world continuously stealing those she loved had an effect on her. A flicker of sadness danced across her eyes for just a moment, but it was gone so fast that it very well could have been a figment of immagination.

He approached and took the woman's hand in his own before taking it to his lips and giving the top of it a kiss. He never stopped looking at her all the while giving Kirvalia a loop sided grin. Hehe, he was acting all gentlemanly and well, wouldn't anybody in the presence of such a beautiful woman do too? Well, other women probably wouldn't but that's another detail.

"The pleasure is all mine." He told with a smile not releasing her hand just yet.

He could be counted as one of the few true knights in shining armour, well; he indeed had been a knight once upon a time a few centuries back. His career as a knight had ended with the last crusade to reclaimed Jerusalem and then he had decided to do something else. That was in that time that he had acquired a lot of his current scars.

"May I sit by your side?" He asked politely.

He would wait for her permission before doing anything; he didn't want to be thought of as a rude man. It was not like him to be rude to anybody. He would simply wait there. He gave her hand back to the woman of an age similar to his own though he didn't know it yet, giving her a soft smile.

She tensed slightly, when he kissed her hand, but her face never changed. It was refreshing, to have someone acting like she'd gotten used to several century's back, but at the same time, it wasn't normal.

He held onto her hand longer than he was supposed to, and she could feel the blush rise in her cheeks, and when he gave her hand back, she rubbed the back of it absently, looking up at him dully.

When he asked for permission to sit by her side, she absently nodded. "Yes, of course." she replied simply, not really paying attention to him as much as her thoughts. Once he'd sat, she looked him directly in the eyes.

"You're immortal." she stated bluntly, not beating around the bush. It took one to know one so quickly, but she hoped he didn't know that fact. She liked to pretend she was 19, but it was obvious that she was not as young as she appeared. She'd seen the age lurking behind his eyes, much like it did behind hers.

He could see the blush creeping up her porcelain cheeks, coloring them in soft reds. He could not help the smile that built itself upon his face. When her permission was given, he sat down next to her. He had seen the dull look of her face, the eyes that looked dead to the world. He would often wear that same expression. He didn't think he would be discovered so soon but his manners were a dead giveaway.

"I am, and so are you milady Kirvalia." He replied.

The milady thing could have proven to be the most obvious thing in his whole demeanor that gave him away. None used such terms nowadays when referring to anything less than royalty. He didn't mean anything by what he had said; it was not meant to insult her. He just stated the fact that she was as immortal as he was.

"But that was not why I came here." He said simply. "I had wanted to come here and simply enjoy what's left of my life now."

Indeed, even if immortals were as they were, ageless, that didn't mean they were happy. Most had lost everyone that counted to them, family, friends and loved ones. Most were only wandering the earth, not really living in it.

"Our meeting in this morn was pure luck." He said giving her a small smile. "But I certainly do not regret having decided to come here on such a day and time if it was to enjoy the company of such a beautiful woman as yourself."

Okay, that might have been a bit of flirting, but he was only complimenting her on how she looked.
