His first days at school proved pleasant, they were chances to get away from home, make friends and learns. Since they didn't have any classes together he made sure to use free time to spend with Sophie, his first friend here, she was kind and pretty, he couldn't ask for a better friend.

Today they were walking about, talking, eating snacks and candies he'd bought for them, it was a good day. "Everything taste good?" he asked her with a smile, his tail swaying slowly behind him, "the chocolate covered pretzels are good." He held the open bag to her so she could try some.

"Oh, hold still," pulling a napkin from his pocker with his tail, he quickly whipped a bit if chocolate from her cheek, "there we go." He chuckled a little, "you did look kinda cute like that though." @Sissel

Sophie’s time on the island was quite bland. She didn’t have any friends and frequently was bothered by home, and the constant nightmares continued... but things cheered up for her after she’d met a friend. Kurt was really nice and Sophie’s first friend as well. They hung out a lot after school. Even if he was the kindest person in the world to Sophie, she did detect something below the surface...

Today, after school, they’d gone on a walk together, talking about stuff.

“Y-Yeah, everything is great.. thanks, K-Kurt.”, she said softly but loud enough to hear. It was an improvement over when she’d first got on the island, when almost nobody could hear her in the rare times when she spoke. Now, though, she was a bit more open to people, especially Kurt.

Nibbling on a pretzel, she blushed a bit. “O-oh... um, thank you..”, she said, a tad embarrassed.

He was happy, that was something he hadn't been able to say often, just being around Sophie seemed to make his days brighter, more bearable. "Thanks for hanging out with me," he said gratefully, his golden eyes showing, a smile on his face. "I really like spending time with you," he said, a slight blush appearing on his cheek, "last few days have been really great."

"We should go see a movie next time," he suggested with a small grin, "I haven't been to one in a while, but I'm sure we can find one we both like." He finished off his snack, his tail continuing to sway behind him, "it'll be my treat of course." Then he went quiet as he saw it up ahead, a house they'd be passing by, his house.

"Oh..uh..it's my place," he nodded toward the house, he had no intention of ever taking her there. "Lets...uh...let's keep going," then, as the passed it, the sound of breaking glass as well as curses rang out from the house. Kurt froze in place, it was his dad, drunk again.

Erm, yeah, y-you’re welcome..”, Sophie said, a blush of her own matching his. “I’ve been en-enjoying them a-as well. Um, thank you, too..”, she said, finishing her last pretzel.

Um, a movie s-s-sound—”, Sophie started before noticing the sounds from the house up ahead. Noises- and emotions- emanated from itvthat weren’t too pleasant. Her stomach plummeted when Kurt revealed it was his house. He’d had some bruises and bandages on his hand that he never explained well, and now this... Sophie was worried. But again, she wouldn’t- she couldn’t confront him about it. It just wasn’t something that she could force herself to do, at least not yet.

Even so, as she passed the house and paused, just for a moment, to glance in the window before briskly walking on, a very quiet “Kurt.....” escaped Sophie’s mouth. She was really worried for him, but didn’t think she could help...

"L-let's just...uh...," his breath started to turn shaky as the passed the house, his hand trembling. She shouldn't have to get pulled into this mess, not her, in truth he didn't want anyone to know. They made it past his house, his hellish home, his amber eyes downset, ashamed to look to up, to look at her.

"I......uh....," he glanced at her, shame and sadness in his eyes, "I'm sorry." He blamed himself for all of it, even if it wasn't his fault, even if it wasn't, even if he was the victim in all of it. Kurt put his hands on his shoulders, hugging himself, his tail wrapping around his waist.

He finally looked to her, stopping and hugging her, both as an apology and probably because he really needed a hug.

N-n-n-n-no, I-it’s not your f-fault..”, Sophie said, hugging Kurt. A sudden wave of guilt washed over her. She tried to not tremble.

Umm... I..”, Sophie started, but her voice trailed off. She really was conflicted in what to say, or what to do. She sensed the shame, sensed the sadness. She had to do something about it, but there weren’t many options here.

It’s okay.. but, uh... I-I’m s-Sorry, too..”, Sophie said, feeling pathetic and useless there. She should have done something else, but she couldn’t. She should have done something about his parents, but she couldn’t. Glancing down, Sophie repeated much more quietly, “I’m sorry...

"No..don't be sorry...," he took a breath to steady himself, "you...you didn't do anything wrong." He didn't want her to get pulled into the hell that was his life, she shouldn't have to deal with it. "L-let's go...," he slowly started to walk again, away from the sounds of his house away from it all. "I...uh...we should go..do something."

His tail wrapped around his waist protectively, his eyes cast downward, he couldn't help but feel ashamed about it all. The young half demon tried to start up a conversation to distract them, but his words always came out pained and quiet. Kurt's bright smile refused to return, his eyes remained dim, overall he looked a little broken.

Finally they finally got a decent distant away, his tail unwrapped to hang like normally. "I..I can make you dinner if you want, we can watch movies," he didn't want to go home and he knew his drunk father wouldn't remember he didn't come home tonight.

Um....y-yeah, um, o-okay..”, Sophie said, following Kurt’s face away from the house. It almost relieved her a bit, walking away from the house, emotions and sounds fading. She didn’t have to try as hard now to not shake. Kurt shouldn’t have to deal with this. Nobody should . But.. it just wasn’t in Sophie to be able to fix that yet. She had to comfort him somehow in the present before worrying about that future. And, on that note, to stop worrying about the past.

Sophie looked over at Kurt, a bit more guilt just creating a pit in her stomach. As Kurt’s emotions were sensed by the girl, it worsened, becoming deeper and deeper, threatening to swallow her. The way Kurt looked.. it was almost scary. This didn’t seem like the him that always put on a smile for the sake of others and at the expense of his self.. but this was what he had to be going through. Sophie’s pit in her stomach became bottomless.

Once the sounds and emotions of the House faded totally, Sophie was relieved of hear Kurt’s voice again, albeit still a sad one. “Y-Yeah, w-we can do th-that..”, Sophie said. It was something to take her mind off of everything, at least.
