Dorn smiled at him when he said it was the very first time someone had called him sweet. "Well I think you are a really sweet person Jamie, you really are." he replied with a friendly but serious voice, he was after all serious on what he said. "Well first time for anything then" he gave James a friendly grin as he said this. He loved to be around Jamie because the boy was so friendly, he had a great personality even if he had a hard time to see it himself. Dorn was going to show him that it could be fun to have someone close to share things with, moments and fun things as well as sad things and anger.

Dorn got the attention of a waiteress and she arrived a moment later with a meny to both of them. She gave the boys a friendly smile before she walked away again to give them some time to think about what to eat. Dorn opened the meny and began to read what they had in this place, his blue eyes glanced up at James as he began to talk and he carefully listened to his words to show that he did listen and care what he said. Dorn placed the meny on the table surface in front of him and then he looked out at the sea for a moment to. "Yeah it is something magical about the sea, I never saw it either until I came here....mainly because we have never had enough money to do trips to places where the sea was." he said slowly and then he smiled and looked at James. "Guess we have another thing in common Jamie boy, always good to know" he then looked down at the meny again. "Looks like they have a rather nice chicken here, yeah I think I will go for the chicken....or just take a salad, not sure" he had a thoughtful tune in his voice as he talked. "Do you see anything you like Jamie?"

He grinned over the menu at Dorn, vaguely relieved. So this was what he meant by getting to know each other? That wasn't too bad. It would be hard to embarrass himself with manageable topics such as vacations to the ocean. "My mother doesn't like traveling," he elaborated, hiding behind the menu. Dorn was right across from him, and it was beginning to make him nervous. It was unusual for him to look directly at someone, and he didn't like suddenly being forced to. As a result, although he'd met the boy more then a week ago, on the rare occasions that he chanced more then a lightening quick glance at Dorn he was still noticing new things about the boy. Like - his hair was a little bit red. It was constantly getting in his eyes, and Dorn was constantly pushing it back. If James was Dorn, he would get it cut. He couldn't stand it when his hair got in his eyes. Luckily, it didn't happen that often.

He studied the menu intently, although he'd already decided what he wanted. He just wasn't quite ready to put it down and face Dorn again. "Crab cakes, I think." He finally said, peeking over the menu experimentally. "Since we're by the ocean."

Dorn thought a little about the words James said that his mother did not like to travel, well it really was none of his business whatever his friends mother like to travel or not so he was not going to dig deeper into the subject at matter, better to find something else he could say. "My mom loved to travel much when she and dad was younger, and when I was not in the picture, you see mom was pretty close to her middle age when I was born, in fact they thought it was to late for them to have any children at all. I Imagine that is why they where so happy when mom became pregnant with me." Dorn smiled a little as he said this, then he did not say anything for another moment and then he glanced at James and noticed that the boy seemed focused on his meny. "Well to tell the truth we did travel some, once a year we went to visit my grandparents in sweden, but that stopped when dad died since all our money was cut in half. But I make the best of things and I still have mom, Nikki and now you."

He waited for James to tell what he had decided to eat and Dorn smiled as he said he was going to eat crab cake. "Oh, I did not think about it that way" he said happily and looked back to the meny. "Why did I not think of that? We are close to the ocean and I eat chicken?" he laughed and shook his head a little. "No that wont do at all Jamie boy, I think I also want to take the crab cake, in fact I do not think I have ever eaten crab. Well you do something new everyday."

Dorn then looked around and made a gesture towards the waitress and she walked over to them again. "Are you ready to order?" she asked them with a polite smile. Dorn nodded a little. "Yeah, I would like to have some crab cake, and a juice. You have orange juice I hope?" the girl nodded and made some notes on the black, then her eyes turned and she looked at James. "So what would you like to have then?" she asked him.

"So you're an only child?" James asked, glancing over his menu curiously. Most people didn't like being by themselves - he was glad Dorn had Nikki to keep him company when he was a child.

He blushed, fiddling absentmindedly with one silver earring. "Well. I'm not very good company, all things considered. You could probably do better," he mumbled, gaze averted. "Sweden?" He asked suddenly, clumsily changing the subject. "That's... far. Are you from America?"

Jamie laughed with him, unable to stop himself. "Nothing wrong with chicken. Crab is good, though. Maybe you should get a whole crab; I think they're on the menu..." He scanned it again, trying to find the dish. The waitress came while he was searching, and he relinquished his menu a little reluctantly. "Crab cakes as well. And tea? Iced. Please." He smiled, waiting until she had gone before relaxing again. "Crab is good," He told Dorn again, a little nervous now that there was nothing obstructing his view. "You'll like it."

Dorn nodded slowly at the question James asked him. "Yeah I am the only child" he said replied to it and examined the fork on the table, he picked it up and looked at it for a moment before he placed it back on the surface of the table again. "I remember I always wanted to have a sibling, s brother or a sister. Well mostly a brother." he smiled a little and then his blue eyes turned to James again and he listened to the younger boy as he talked, Dorn raised an eyebrow ever so slightly at what he heard. "Now you really think I would have asked you to go down to the city and do something if I had not enjoyed your company? Jamie boy of course I like your company and do not think anything else."

Dorn nodded a little at the question about sweden. "Sweden yes, both mom and dad was born and grew up in sweden, they meet there and married there." he made a pause as he thought of what to say. "I was born in sweden to, but when I was only a few monthes we had to move because dad had been offered a new job at a small hospital. So I grew up in America yes, but of course mom and dad did not want me to forget where I really was from so I can speak both english and swedish."

Dorn listened to James when he talked and he nodded a little at the words, then he watched as he made his order and the waitress walked away from them. The older boy watched the younger as he talked and then he nodded a little. "Yeah I am sure I will like it, I do not often eat many new things, it is only at late that I have started to be more open, to my mothers great joy since she loves to try new things all the time." he laughed a little and then he tought for a moment. "So are you only child or do you have siblings? No wait let me guess as see if I am right or not, you are a younger sibling in a group of siblings." he examined James calmly and thought of what to say. "Am I right?" he had this thought mainly from how James was as a person, he did not say to much and always seemed to think lowly of himself, but Dorn did not at all think that it could be true. James was a very bright person and he had a wonderful personality. Something not to many had these days.

"You speak Swedish?" Jamie raised his eyebrows, duly impressed. "Is there anything you don't do?" He wondered, grinning teasingly. "I speak a bit of French, but I'm not fluent or anything. Swedish is cooler, though."

He grinned, nodding that Dorn was correct. "I've got that younger sibling air, don't I? Three older brothers, all massive and manly and free of any abilities." He wrinkled his nose at the word. "If you met them, you might change your mind about wanting a brother." A pause, and then he shrugged, toying with his fork. "My sister's alright, though. Lily." He fell silent, suddenly homesick again; Lily was the only person he really missed from home. Although he'd never do the same for himself, he'd always been the one to stand up for her when she was teased, and he was worried about what would happen now that he was gone.

Dorn smiled at what he said. "Yeah I do, both my parents are from sweden so I Imagine it was rather hard for me not to learn to speak it. Have to be able to talk to gramps, she do not speak a word english other then a few simple once and then she always say them wrong." he told calmly and then he thought about the question James asked before he replied. "figure skating, never understood the charm in that actually, complete mystery." a friendly grin crossed his face as he said this. "I am also rather bad with poems, never really seem to get a hang of it even if I have tried."

Dorn laughed when he told about his brothers. "Yeah that must be a pain, often are when people act to manly and massive." he commented and examined the plate in front of himself on the table. "Well I look forward to meet them someday then, so I can see for myself how manly they are" he then glanced at James again when he talked about his sister and he could sense right away that the boy was missing that girl, yeah he really liked his sister. Dorn calmly stretched out a hand and placed it on James. "You miss her right? Well then why don´t give her a call? Maybe if you talk with her a little things might be better?" he said this in an encouraging way. "Then I can talk to her to and tell her how great big bro is doing here at the school."

"Figure skating and poems?" He grinned, pinning back a lock of hair that had fallen in front of his eyes. "It's a start, eh? Reading poems or writing them? I'm bad at both." The waitress had brought out their drinks, and he unwrapped his straw and dunked it in his tea. "Been trying to read the Iliad, but it takes me two tries to understand each verse. It's fantastic, but I'm afraid some of it slips over my head."

He grinned, shaking his head. "They're insufferable. They'd probably pick on you. I think they used up all the tall genes before Lily and I came along. We're both tiny, but my brothers are six feet and change."

"She'd think you'd abducted me or something." He laughed shortly, picking the lemon off the edge of his glass and squeezing it into the drink. "She'd never believe there's someone I'd be willing to be friends with."

Dorn laughed at what he said. "Well I am good at reading poems, but not so good in the making of them. I can enjoy poem from time to time, I have read the Iliad actually. It was a nice one and I liked it. It was rather hard to read of course." he smiled as he said this part, he was never much into the older poems but they could be really nice some of them.

Dorn listened to him and nodded slowly he calmly watched his drink as he was thinking of something to say, then his blue eyes turned to James. "Size is not at all important if you ask me what I think, and I can tell I like you the height you are now Jamie boy. I am not afraid that your brothers would pick on me, I am not the kind of person to care much about such things" he closed his eyes for a moment as he gathered his thoughts and then he opened them again and tilted his head a little to the side as he examined James.

To the last part he laughed and had to take a deep breath to stop himself from laughing to much. "Well I guess she is in for a surprise then" he said and scratched himself on the back of the neck with his left hand. "Well I am happy that you are willing to be with me Jamie, it really do make me happy to be with you, that is not a lie and it is the daily truth. I like you much Jamie boy, and you are a great person" he smiled as he said this one it was easy to tell that Dorn really did like James as much as he said he did.

"Ah, you have?" James leaned forward in his seat, excited. "I'm up to book nine. I've been reading it at lunch - it's fantastic, eh? How long ago did you read it?" The waitress floated back over to their table and placed identical plates in front of both of them, and Jamie leaned back, embarrassed.

He shrugged. "I'm sure you're not bothered by that sort of thing. But they'd try, anyway." Although Dorn insisted he wouldn't care, he didn't know Jamie's brothers, the way they ferreted out someone's deepest insecurities and pounced on them. Jamie had seen them reduce too many people to tears to completely believe Dorn would be unaffected.

He hummed happily at the compliment, mouth too full of crab cake to reply for a moment. Dorn seemed quite concerned with letting Jamie know he liked being around him. "Thanks," he said after he'd swallowed his mouthful of food, grinning at Dorn. "And. You're a good person too." He offered in return, not entirely certain of how the whole compliment thing worked.
