It always made him a bit twitchy to enter a place he had never been to before. He had new objects to stare at, like that doorknob, that really fucking mundane ass doorknob that somehow had his attention like a vice grip because he was trying to calculate with his mind how to tear it out with one great pull in such a way that he could manage to catch it in his hand perfectly. He hadn't used his abilities in five days, something of a record with him, so he was refraining from destroying the property of the school. Of course, just as his mind had finally worked out the trajectory, the exact bit of tile that he would have to gravitate with it, the doorknob suddenly turned and he snapped back to reality.

"Wha- huh?"

"I see you were in another place, was it nice there?" His mother had come to see him off, mother was what she preferred while his other mom usually went by mammy. He wasn't really sure why they had their own preference, he had gone through a phase where he called his mothers by their first names but lately he had been putting more effort to be less informal with them.

"Yeah, doorknob. It was a little worrisome. I almost did it... I almost snapped."

"It's okay if you do here, you know that right? It's safe. You'll be okay."

"No."

"Honey, really, it'll be-"

"No." This time his face tightened as he felt his eyes burn a little bit. "I don't deserve them."

His mother frowned but handed him a bill, "Here, go explore and get something to drink. You'll feel better. We'll meet you in an hour or two to say goodbye at your new room okay?"

"Sure," He lifted off of the chair and hugged her tightly, planting a kiss on her cheek before walking out into the hallway and saw a vending machine with snacks. He preferred chips to any sort of soda, especially when his stomach was so touch and go with all the anxiety. He pushed the five in and selected a flavor that was new and sounded exciting only to have the bag get stuck halfway. His head rested against the display glass in defeat as he let out a soft laugh.

"Don't do it, it's not worth it... you have change... you can just pay twice." His fingers were pressed together tightly. "No... no, you'll just crush the damn things...."

His fingers released without having snapped, and he quickly realized an easier solution as he started violently shaking the machine. "GIVE ME MY FUCKING CHIPS YOU ASSHOLE!"

"Woah-hoh there, son!"

A hand came in from off to Johan's side to plant itself on the corner of the vending machine, staying the weighty piece of machinery. Vending machines, and their ilk, were widely known to be fickle and greedy bastards, but they were also vindictive and unpredictable. Jacob tried to stave off its weighty, chip-filled wrath by holding it still and looking at the young man with a bit of smiley concern.

"You know how many people die from havin' these things fall on them when they shake 'em? A stupidly high number. And I don't want you being one of them."

Jacob reached into his pocket and retrieved a few small bills and offered them to Johan.

"Here. Get somethin' else to knock the other one loose. My treat."

Of all the things that stuck out most for Jacob when he looked at the young man, besides the yelling, was his head phones of all things. By themselves they deserved little attention. They were, after all, useful and commonplace. But as Jacob spent more time around young people in his career and got to know them and their quirks, he learned a few things about them. In particular, he learned that head phones so casually carried around were signs of someone who wanted to block out the rest of the world. They were the audio equivalent of blinders or blindfold, something to create a sense of solitude in public.

And if there ever was a group of young people who would prefer to hide themselves from the world at large, it was the kind of young people at the Academy. And it was his job to try and get them out of their shells, or at least open a little bit for someone.

"I'm Jacob Cunningham, by the way. Are you new here?"

In Elizabeth's opinion the school was too calm today. It was as if all the worries in the world had vanished. And for the first time in forever Elizabeth felt somewhat calm too. Most of her life she had been on edge. but for some reason she felt calm today. Heck she even felt like making friends! But of course this calmness couldn't last forever. And Elizabeth had the feeling that it wouldn't.

Walking around the corner she noticed a guy shaking the hell out of a bending machine. Her guess was that it took his money. Classic bending machine move. She then noticed another person walk over to him and stop him from continuously shaking it. They seemed to be discussing about the broken machine.

She didn't know why, but Elizabeth felt like helping them out. She could probably get what he wanted out of the machine no sweat but that meant talking to them and even doing them a good deed. and looking like the good guy in front of others wasn't exactly her cup of tea.

She let out a sigh and cursed her good mood. Why was she even doing this? Letting out a sigh she walked over the the two. Without a word she stood between them and the machine and placed her hand on the device. Without warning the entire thing spazed out. The spirales spun fast causing all the food and drinks in the machine to come out of the bottom and fall to the floor.

Elizabeth couldn't help but think then. Crap.... I broke it....
