Nerina kissed him again when Eric leaned in. It felt natural to do this, but her head was spinning. She felt that she would stay with Eric if the time of day would permit her to do so. She wanted to connect to people again. Being in the ocean was nice, but when your only company were silent fish, it got lonely very quickly.

"Okay. Then I feel you're... someone special to me."

Anyone could tell Nerina was probably lying to herself. But now she would not search for what records Félix Tenebre borrowed, now that she had Eric by her side. She had been searching for so long, but he never showed up at all.

Nerina jolted when Eric mentioned seafood. She didn't want him to know her secret – would it really give it away? She already told him she dived for seafood and was in that business. But she really, really liked seafood. Especially lobster, crab and tiger prawn. If she were a seafood diver, then it would make sense she liked seafood.

"Sure, I–I like seafood. Or..." She thought of fried chicken, T-bone steak, mashed potatoes. She didn't have money to eat out, and she really missed those foods as a child. Nerina smiled to make her sadness vanish.

"... I'll have anything!"

Eric didn't really believe her when she said he was special. Eric was special, he knew that, but he wasn't special to her. Still, he smiled and kissed her back one more time. "I'm glad I'm special to you."

Not that she was special to him, though Nerina was also a special person. Eric just couldn't put that much stock into those sorts of feelings, and ultimately he avoided mentioning it altogether. He wouldn't lie, but he would never admit such a thing to anyone as far as he knew.

Eric seemed amused with Nerina's reaction to seafood. She seemed... worried though. Maybe she was picky about what kind of seafood, and didn't want to risk one with Eric? "How about a nice grilled chicken salad, then?" Living on his own, mostly his own, he had to learn quickly how to cook and prepare food that wasn't straight out of an instant noodle package. Unlike Félix, he needed to take care of his body.

Eric led Nerina back to his dorm. Inside, there were still a few unpacked boxes left in both the living room and in one of the recently occupied bedrooms. Another bedroom door was closed, presumably to Eric's roommate.

"Let me just prepare the chicken," Eric turned on the stove top and fetched a pan and a few pieces of stored meat from the freezer. He needed to thaw it a bit first, so while he threw it in his microwave he asked Nerina to help with the salad. Eric pulled out some of the ingredients, letting her tear up the lettuce and manage the tossing and dressing.

Once they were finished, Eric cut up the chicken and tossed the salad one more time. He had a little more than for two, but he'd eat the rest for dinner anyway. And if Nerina was happy to stay, he'd save some for her. The rest, Eric placed on two plates and brought them into the living room on his table.

Nerina helped out with the salad. On a sheet of paper was the instructions on how to make the dressing. She mixed together honey, a squeeze of lemon juice, olive oil and some tahini and stirred it thoroughly. Then she coated the salad leaves evenly with the dressing, tossing it. She tried to be as careful as possible, so the leaves wouldn't spill over the bowl. She then let Eric handle the rest, and put on Eastern Sounds by Yuseef Lateef on the record player in the living room.

"This is really good sound equipment." The sound was very clear, the trebles clean and the bass not too powerful, but just enough to pick out the subtleties of the recording. She was surprised that Eric owned such a sound system if he just liked to blast Kanye West and Hip Hop anthems in his car.

The salad looked really good, like what one would find in a food magazine. The chicken had perfect grilled marks running down on it, thanks to the grooves in Eric's pan. (Not the music grooves. Physical ones.) It was tossed with a bit of low-fat fetta cheese and a sprinkling of red jewel-like pomengranate.

"Let's eat?" Nerina asked. She didn't know if Eric was religious and would pray before eating food, but Nerina dug in anyway, tearing apart a piece of chicken with her teeth.

"Let's eat," Eric didn't make a prayer or anything else. Just as quickly as Nerina dove into the food, so did Eric. It was lunch time now, and Eric was very hungry.

Once they finished and the album itself was done, Eric looked around the place to find something else they could do. Granted, he'd have loved nothing more than to have her in his arms the rest of the day. But it was awfully early to be frolicking in such a manner.

"How about a movie?" Eric asked. Eric didn't really have any hard copies of movies, but he could browse on his TV for something. He turned the large TV on and started flicking through a few of their movie provider's menus... anything to catch Nerina's eye.

The salad was great. It seemed to go well with the music, and she ate the meal in silence, enjoying every bite and having her senses stimulated. She finished every last scrap of the salad until her plate looked as though it was licked clean by a cat.

When Eric asked about seeing a movie, Nerina replied with a simple, "Sure." The large television screen flicked by with titles she was only half familiar with. Some of them were classics she had recognized that were also popular in Australia, or she had found them in the library and watched them in her spare time. There was even Crocodile Dundee 2 – she didn't know they released a sequel.

"Wait, that movie." She pointed to a blue promotional poster near the bottom of the screen. "The French movie with the diver and dolphin. I've always wanted to see it."

"The Deep Blue?" Eric had never even heard of the movie. He looked over the synopsis briefly, and even then he still wasn't convinced it would be terribly interesting. You can't have gunfights and explosions underwater. At least, not often.

Still, to satisfy Nerina's request he selected the movie and let it load. Eric focused on the movie for the first little while, but when it became clear this was going to be something of a foreign drama he quickly lost interest.

He wondered how Nerina was faring. She was watching it still, but that didn't say much if Nerina had in fact tuned the movie and its endless supply of water out. Eric's hand tested their own waters, wrapping around Nerina's waist and pulling her closer towards him.

Once he though it safe, Eric's lips touched her jawline and started to make their way to her lips again. This would be a better time-waster anyway.

"Eric, I don't – mmf!"

Nerina was wide-eyed when he aggressively leaned in and kissed her on her lips again. With her fist, she beat him on his back in protest. With her arm strength, it wasn't very painful. A relentless cardio workout would have put Eric through a much tougher ordeal. With persistence, Nerina's fist turned into a gentle caress, ever so slowly. She laid down on the couch. Her eyes glanced at the movie ever so often. Otherwise, she let Eric have his way with her until he was bored of teasing her, or until he gave her some breathing space.

"This movie reminds me of my mother. My parents said she was a skilled free-diver."

Still underneath Eric, Nerina became quiet when she watched the credits of the movie roll. She only met her mother once, and when her mother looked at her, she crinkled her nose in disgust and turned away without even saying goodbye.

Nerina stroked his rich brown hair feebly.

"I think it's getting late. Will you return the records for me?"

Nerina looked and sounded out of breath, or like she had difficulty breathing. Her legs were losing sensation and were becoming numb. She felt Eric's weight on her was suffocating. It was almost time to return to water.

Eric figured Nerina just needed to ease into it. She probably wanted to watch the movie a little more than he did, but really, it was way too boring for him. Eric remained tentative at first. Had Nerina put up a better fight than a weak fist, he'd have pulled away very quickly. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, Eric barely felt her protest.

Eric didn't get bored of her so easily, but he did give her some space to watch the movie once in a while. Plus, even Eric had to catch his breath once in a while. He shifted his weight around, trying to make both of them as comfortable as possible.

"I'm not surprised. You seem to love water, yourself." Eric smiled, his thumb gently stroking her cheek.

"May I return them in the morning?" Eric smiled, all too willing to please her whenever she asked for something. He was about to lean in again when he noticed Nerina struggling to breathe. "Are you alright?" Eric shifted more of his weight off of her. It was awkward on such a narrow couch, but Eric was strong and athletic enough to keep himself in delicately sideways. His hand ran down her side until it reached her leg. Something was... different.

"You're not in a hurry to go, are you?" Eric still flirted with his words, but there was a more pressing sincerity to it. He couldn't tell if she was hot and flustered with him, or in pain.

Nerina shifted awkwardly when he mentioned her love of water. The sound of the word wanted to make her be in any body of water, the bigger the better. She only nodded when Eric asked if he could return them in the morning, as though words were too painful to come from her throat. Truth to be told, she didn't trust him with returning the records, but she tried to have faith in him.

He was, after all, 'someone special' to her.

"I have to go," she gasped, her words full of urgency. She shifted her weight on the couch, but already her legs couldn't move. "I must go back home,"

When Eric pressed her hand against her leg, Nerina screamed, loudly. It was a deafening sound, almost as loud and sudden as gunshot. She tried to keep it down, for Eric's sake. To her, his touch felt like coming in contact with a hot iron and being pressed with the pointed end of needles or spikes. Already she felt her legs being covered with fine gold scales. Her two weak legs had already fused together.

"Please, I don't want you to see me like this."

She pulled herself off the sofa, but she had no feet to stand up on and she would either have to grip Eric tightly or slide around on the floor. Her transformation was still incomplete and looked somewhat horrific.

Eric retracted his hand immediately as Nerina screamed. What the heck happened? The feel was different than he expected... it wasn't a human leg. But Eric didn't think of it for now, he was focused on trying to figure out what was wrong with Nerina.

“Okay, I'll take you home. Bear with me,” Eric moved away from the couch, but Nerine still couldn't stand up. She gripped onto Eric, and Eric did his best to raise her off of the floor. But he couldn't touch her legs... what was left of them... without hurting her. It was awkward, and Eric knew he couldn't lift her for long enough.

“What's going on?” He asked, but Nerina just said for him not to see her. “You're going to be okay, don't worry.” He looked down at her legs. They had scales now, and instead of two limbs there was one. It was growing longer as well. Nerina was also growing heavier. Eric hated to admit it, but he wasn't able to carry her far. Certainly not to his car.

“I-I'm sorry, I'm not strong enough. Can I take you somewhere else? Please,” Eric's arms wobbled. He bent his knees further and tried to place Nerina over his center of gravity. It helped, but it was far too awkward for him to walk any distance.
