He'd done it.

In the 113 years of his existence, Ripley Pieces had never, ever been on a blind date. He hadn't been on many dates, if he was being honest. He'd just never had the time.

But he was getting bored, because even in a place like Manta Carlos Islands, there is not a lot for an awkward museum curator to do. Sure, he had his collection of dinosaurs to deal with, but after a while feeding them live animals was no less unusual than feeding mice to a pet snake.

So he'd posted a dating advertisement in the local newspaper, saying that he'd be at that diner with the strange name--Boom goes your Appetite-- from 4-5:30 if anyone wanted to join him for coffee and a piece of the diner's amazing pecan pie.

Ripley was on his first cup of coffee, and he was being optimistic.

Surely...someone would show up, right?

==> Tamara.

Tamara has never been on a date for a long while. A very, very long while. In her past life, she had been too dedicated to her work to pay anyone any special attention. She was a very busy nurse, and she didn't have time for her personal life all except for her basic needs.

Not too long ago, she happened by an ad in the newsprint. A blind date? She smiled at the thought. It was an entire lifetime since she had last seen someone. How would it be like to go on a date in the present, she wondered.

Tamara decided she didn't need to be showy and tried to be a little more casual that chic. Her braids rested in front of her as it always did, just as the runes on her lips remained permanent. She decided to leave the cover behind for today. It was a at least 20 minutes past 4PM. She stood in front of the shop that was in the dating ad. She stared at her reflection for a moment; a 17-year-old girl was all she could see. The parasite was at least 2,000 though. But there was nothing wrong about wanting to look... refreshed.

She gave herself a nod at her own claim before she stepped through the door of the diner, immediately scanning the room for anyone that might be waiting. She found a blond man sitting at one table. That could be him, she thought.

Tamara hummed in thought as she made her way to the table where the man sat, phone in hand. She stood in front of him and tried catching his attention before turning to face the screen of her phone to him. Written on the screen was:

"Are you perhaps the one I am meeting?"

Ripley was sipping his coffee, glancing out the window. This was a particularly dreary time of year, one that made him wish his powers didn't take so much out of him. He'd like to bring back some life to the cold environment, although it did seem cruel to bring back a tree only to have it die again in the cold.

He was pondering this dilemma--although, it seemed to him a trifle bit pompous to even think of it as a dilemma--when a shadow fell across him.

He looked up in surprise, a nervous smile crossing his face.

"Hello there!" he said, and then, "goodness, where are my manners?" because Rip remembered that it was customary to stand when a lady was present. Or was it? He started to stand, but got nervous, and the edge of the seat caught the back of his knee, which dart up and hit the table, and the shock of the whole thing sent him sitting back down.

By the time he looked up and realized she was holding something to read, he had to give an embarrassed motion with one hand while he grabbed his glasses from his breast pocket in another.

"Oh! yes. That would be me. My name is Ripley Pieces, and it's a pleasure to meet you," he said, offering out his hand. "May I inquire your name?"

Looking at her, Ripley would have guessed she was in her late teens, but he didn't want to make assumptions. After all, he looked to be thirty, but he'd looked to be thirty for the last 84 years. He did know enough not to bring up someone's age into question. That was still a thing, wasn't it? He was starting to wonder why he thought this was a good idea. He felt like an idiot. But she came, and that had to count for something, and he found himself giving her a shy smile.

Tamara would have laughed if she could, as she saw the man stumble. How should she put it? It was adorable, as most would say it. She always found those kind of people that way. It was endearing.

As the man, who had introduced himself as Ripley, asked for her name, she with drew the device and wrote: "The pleasure is all mine. I am Tamara Nagi. Please do pardon my way of speaking. I cannot really speak." she held out the phone in one hand as she returned the gesture.

While he took the time to read her message, she evaluated the man before her. Outwardly, she could assume that he could be around late twenties or so, but her eyes could always see farther than that. He was much older than that. Much, much older, although she couldn't really say by how much. She smiled in her thoughts; there are a lot of interesting people in Manta Carlos.

The pleasure is all mine. I am Tamara Nagi. Please do pardon my way of speaking. I cannot really speak.

Rip waved his hand, dismissive not of Tamara, but the idea that there was anything to pardon in this way of speaking.

"Oh, goodness, there is nothing to pardon my dear! There is no chance for me to misinterpret this way, eh?" he smiled at her, clearly happy for the conversation.

He motioned to the seat across from her. "Would you like to join me? I am not sure how you feel about pecans, but this place does have good pie, if I remember correctly."

":)"

The next time Tamara turned her phone's screen to face the necromancer, it displayed that smiley. As much as she wanted to smile, her face was practically frozen. It was a shame but it was part of preserving dead forms. Tsk.

Tamara sat down when she was offered her seat. Tamara isn't really quite sure about pecans either, but she already had a slice or two before. Well, a hundred slices or two. Accumulated slices. She's found them to taste differently from place to place and she didn't mind having another.

As soon as she sat down she began typing, afterwards turning her phone to Ripley, on screen was: "I've had some pecans before. Most of the ones I've had were delicious! ^u^"

She rarely got out since she arrived in Manta Carlos. Books were her first love, but it never stopped her from going out. Though she supposes, by working in the library in Starlight, it gave her access to particular books that she hasn't really read. That and she doesn't really have friends to go with. Going out alone to town has become... quite lonely.

ooc: ;__; I think my response-rate is going to be pretty standard once-a-day or once-every-other-day.

bic:

Ripley smiled shyly.

This was going well, he thought. He was keeping his coffee at arms length and in his line of sight at all times, so he couldn't accidentally spill that on her.

"I've had some pecans before. Most of the ones I've had were delicious! ^u^"

"It is settled then!" Ripley said, matching her smile. He went ahead and ordered them both a piece of pie before turning his attention back to the lovely girl before him.

The air outside the diner was decidedly gray and dreary, but it was warm in here and Ripley was enjoying having someone to talk to other than himself. Well, he wasn't really talking to himself, per se, but his dead companions didn't really speak back. He'd long thought about hiring someone to enchant them to be capable of speech, but he was afraid of what the consequences may be. Some people might accuse Rip of playing god by bringing things back to life, but he did have his limits, and talking extinct creatures were one of them.

"How long have you lived here on the island?" he asked, adjusting his glasses which had started to fog from the heat of his coffee. He took them off and wiped them on his sleeve, anticipating her reply.

"I also want to apologize in advance--if I ask a question that makes you uncomfortable, please forgive me. I'm a bit out of practice, shall we say, with having conversations that aren't business-related.

[[ooc: no worries! i think school is going to butt into my reply schedules too so .__. ]]

The place was indeed warm and comfortable. Tamara hasn't exactly sat down to have someone to talk to for some time and she figures Ripley was enjoying the company as well. She was glad, and now that she thought about it, she was glad he didn't really seem bothered by the fact she looked 'too young for him' to be sitting there right now. Something she always had to deal with before. People just have to notice such petty things, don't they?

As she began to type her response, Ripley had followed an apology which she gave an inward chuckle. Normally, that wouldn't a problem; how he reacts to her answers might be, though. She she cleared out and rewrote her response before turning the screen around. "Nothing to worry about! No inquiry have bothered me nowadays and I've no secrets to hide, so ask away."

Giving him enough time to read her response she cleared out the screen and wrote: "I've only been here for about two months. It's been a nice stay so far. And you?"

She'd only been here for two months? Ripley pursed his lips, thinking about the answer. That wasn't much of an indication on her age, but then again, it's not like that was the question he'd asked.

"I see," Ripley said, nodding, though he wasn't sure why he was nodding. "I hope the remainder of your months continue to be enjoyable. It's a pleasant place, all things considered, though the storms here can be a bit of a menace."

She'd asked him how long he'd been here. Now came the tricky part. He fumbled with his glasses and cleaned them even though they didn't really need to be cleaned. "I'm not really sure, to be honest, I've sort of lost track, but I'd have to guess I'm nearing the 50 years mark?"

Ripley was nowhere close to being the oldest person on the island, not by far. But he was used to the idea of the average age being somewhere near 70, and Ripley was almost double that. It made him feel slightly uncomfortable. More than slightly, if he was being honest, though he tried not to focus on that too much.

"I um..I work in the museum here," Ripley said. "Even before I arrived here, that was my main form of employment. I do quite enjoy curating the exhibits--I think of it as a form of story-telling, a hobby I do enjoy since I'm not so good with words."

He hesitated before asking his next question. "Are you a student here?"

[[ holy crap i forgot to bookmark this page before im sorryy asfdfhjk ]]

Nearing fifty years? Tamara made a thoughtful nod. He indeed looked young at the same time quite older. She could say she probably was not nearing Father's though. Ah, she always wondered others would decide to reach immortality as she did. Father never told her.

But it might be too personal to ask on a first meeting. She pondered for a moment before she typed out her response saying: "I've had bad storms back then, so I'm sure they won't be much of a problem. I also hope the days to come will be wonderful." she turned the screen to Ripley as she thought of what to reply next.

She had noticed he didn't seem quite... elated to reply to her question. Maybe he wasn't quite comfortable having to tell her that he wasn't quite as young as he looked. More likely because she looked a bit too young.

"You've been here for quite a while, have you? I'm sure I can rely on knowing I'll be able to have a good stay here." she held it up for a moment for Ripley to read before keying in her next response. She laughed inwardly as she figured he indeed see her as a young girl.

This time she had to had him her gadget for her lengthy response. Ah, the difficulty of not being able to speak. "I'd like to visit your museum one time when I'm free! It's a refreshing view to see things from the past. There is much I haven't seen despite my time here.

I'm not quite a student, though I do work at the academy. Pardon me if my appearance is misleading but I'm quite older than you expect. ^^;
