Hal nodded in thought. "To be fair, Paris was just a city or two away from where I grew up." He was never the traveler type. He didn't like having to move around so much which is why he preferred to stay home during the summer rather than being left with his uncle in the next city. While he did like to visit places, the exhaustion he could feel would have been a bit too unbearable for him. He'd rather sit that one out, quite literally and just watch from documentaries.

Although...

"I'm not exactly the traveler-type but if there were places I'd like to check, those would be places like... somewhere in Australia where you could dive in the sea and see the coral reef up close?" he said, a small childish smile appearing on his face as he remembered seeing a documentary on it. "Or I dunno... get to walk along the Great Wall, sorta like that?" he said. There were sparkles in Hal's eyes as he seemed to have occupied his thoughts of the interesting places he'd only seen in videos.

Hal turned to Wind after a moment, "Oh and, I actually managed once to get into Catacombes de Paris when I bugged my dad about letting me go with him there one time...!" he told her, almost a little bit of his French accent slipping into his normally neutral-sounding English.

Wind said,
"You got to go into the catacombs of Paris? What was that like?"
Her eyes lit up and she vaugely wondered if he'd gotten to the underside of the Paris Opera House. She was suddenly really, really interested in learning more about that.

(OOC: 3 pages, wow! I think this is my first one to get that long, that's cool!)

[[ I'm quite amazed myself too :o I never get this long with only one person lmao ]]

Hal hummed, momentarily drifting into thought as he recalled that time. He was only about 13 or so and he had begged his father to take him along when he went to visit Paris. "Well for one thing, it was horribly dark so the visuals was really poor. Not to mention it was really cold? Like, ridiculously cold because that place is underground!" he said, turning towards Wind. The girl's reflection appeared on the lenses of Hal's glasses.

"Both my parents are archaeologists and my dad sorta tends to dig into historical places and all that. I think he's gone to the catacombs more that once? He actually only let me tag along with him and mom when it was in France." he explained before continuing, "But yeah, I remember it was really dark and cold; it was pretty creepy especially when we found rooms with skeletons and stuff." Hal shook his shoulders, shuddering to the memory of the bones sprawled in the tunnels.

Hal clearly remembers that he had to cling to his father because he apparently short-circuited the flashlight that he was using because he was really terrified. But Wind didn't need to know that.

"That does sound really creepy, but cool, too! By any chance, did you happen to get to the underside of the Paris Opera House, or did not go in very far at all? And your parents are archaeologists? That had to be an exciting childhood! Sounds positively adventerous compared to mine."
She noticed a lot of the other kids were begining to leave and asked,
"Do we have bells here to let us know when lunch is over or do we figure that out on our own?"

Hal made a quiet scoff. "It would have been one if my parents actually let me come with them." he muttered to himself. He didn't realize it could have been loud enough for Wind who sat across him to hear. That was part of why he was upset about his parents. When they left for projects, he was almost always left behind to the care of his cousin or his aunt. Sometimes because of that, Hal would think that his dislike for travelling was actually just for ironic reasons.

"But the opera house huh... Yeah, I think we did go there once? I can't completely remember." Hal hummed as he looked around, realizing some students beginning to leave the area, "The bell usually only rings once for lunch. I mean for one, the time for the first class after lunch is in the schedule. Or something like that."

"Thanks for the info. And it kinda sucks that your parents never took you with them. Maybe it was because they were afraid you'd get in trouble or be in danger and they couldn't watch you every minute."
She put her books back in her bag and said,
"I'd better get going, it looks like my next class is about to start. I was thinking I'd take a walk in the woods after classes are over, like I do at home. Would you want to join me?," she asked hesitantly, not sure if he'd want to spend any more time with her, but she liked him.

"Right. They still wouldn't let me go even when they know I really just tail behind them." Hal muttered under his breath. It always made him upset when his parents just leave him at home with his aunt, even during the summer breaks. In fact, they weren't even there until after a day or two when he had his accident. They were in Peru.

Hal looked up when Wind spoke again, then asking him once again if he would like to meet up after their classes. He took a moment to think before he would respond. He didn't usually have people to hang around with. He had usually gone back to his dorm to study even when he didn't have any exams to study for. He always usually ignored his roommate when he had one.

"Sure, I don't mind. I haven't gone there for a really long while." Hal replied as he placed the cups on the tray he'd left next to him. "I don't really have anything to study for tonight either, so why not?"

[[ do you want to make the first post for a third thread after this ends? xD ]]

(OOC: Sure, I'll start it tomorrow! For today, I'll just end this one for Wind with her exit from the cafeteria.)
Wind got up, said shortly,
"Thanks, Hal. I think you'll be a good friend. See you after school, bye."
She shouldered her bag and walked out of the cafeteria, turning at the door to give him a final wave.

Hal wasn't able to reply properly to Wind when the girl got up. "Uh... Yeah, alright. See you... then." was all he could utter before the girl left the table for her class. Her words rung in his ears as he got up and gathered his things. On the way to his class, as he placed the tray on the designated space, he muttered — almost absentmindedly,

"A 'good friend'... huh?"

(OOC: hyperhurricane, the new thread's over in The Woods board, if you haven't found it already. It's called something like "A quiet walk in the woods" and I have your name attached, too.)
