At the sound of Wind's laughter, Hal realized he was being a little too interested. Or at least, he realized he was showing it too much. He gave himself a mental slap for doing that. He was supposed to be cool right in front of new kids. That was not 'cool'.

He had always been curious about other abilities but the most that intrigued him was basically any sort of form changing. He'd count his as one, considering his astral form and physical form felt different when he actually put his mind to it. Otherwise, he wouldn't feel a thing. But shape-shifting was much more than that.

Hal hadn't realized Wind had finished her food before he did until she mentioned it. He still had his side of mashed potatoes left untouched. "Huh-? Oh, alright..." His gaze followed Wind as she stood up to put away her tray for a second before putting his attention to his food. 'An animal huh...' he mused, 'A fox? Nah.. Maybe a ferret... huh..'

Wind came back, sat down, and asked,
"So, did you figure out what you'd be yet? I could tell you were thinking it over."
She pulled out a text book and, setting it on the table, sighed,
"It's so nice not to be waited on at mealtimes, to do things for myself."

Hal gave Wind a nonchalant shrug when she sat back down and asked him again. "I couldn't really choose." he answered, "I'm partial between a cat or a ferret though." While it was easy to think about it, but for real, he probably wouldn't want to even try being an animal. He's okay with his astral body.

Frankly, he was really glad Wind wasn't planning to shape-shift in front of him. At least for now, but he was happy with that. He was never comfortable around animals. Not after his animal-related accidents when he was younger.

Hal was looking at the textbook Wind had pulled out when she spoke again. His head tilted to the side slightly, "Waited on? Did your family have maids and butlers back at home, or something?" A second after he asked that, Hal felt like an idiot for asking something so obvious.

Wind replied,
"A cat sounds really cool, but a ferret's kind of unusual. We have servants at home, but we treat them like family. My dad always says, 'if you treat your servants well, they will serve you well for all the years of your reign.' We haven't had any complaints with them yet."
She turned her attention to the geography book in front of her.

Hal breathed out a sigh. Truthfully, he liked looking at animals in video documentaries and he found ferrets sort of interesting but... "I guess a ferret does sound pretty unusual... I mean, I'm pretty sure a normal person would go for a cat or dog. Or wolves and foxes and all that." he shrugged his shoulders as he finished his serving of mashed potatoes and set the cup aside.

"I'll be frank, I don't really have a liking for animals so I really couldn't decide which I disliked the least." he said bluntly, staring blankly at the book Wind was reading. He would tell her why but having to tell someone he just met this morning that he was deathly scared of generally every animal because of nearly getting trampled on by a horse once when he was 8 was not really a good impression to make.

"Wait.." Hal paused as he processed her words in his head once more, "'All the years of your.. reign'? Is your family like... royals or something? Because... that's a pretty weird way to phrase that..." If that was true then Hal might have a reason to run his hand over his face today.

(OOC: Sorry yesterday's was so short, was typing it on a phone, and doing that correctly is a huge pain in the butt. I'm back on a laptop and a decent-sized keyboard today.)

Wind slowly lifted her head from the book, straightened herself up and said,
"Yes, we are. Back home in our country, Raventia, my parents, siblings and I are the royal family. I'm one of the princesses, however, I'm not first in line for the throne, that would be my older twin, Stars. But, underneath all that, really, I'm as normal as anyone else. It's just, I don't want people to treat me differently. I'd like a chance to be normal for a change."
She leaned back in her seat and said,
"It's been great being here so far. No huge castle, no servants, no power and fighting lessons with our tutor. I'm completely in control of my own life for probably the first time ever."
She had a satisfied smile on her face as she looked up at the painting, thinking about how lucky she was to be here.

Hal only stared at the girl as she talked about her life before arriving at the academy. It looked to him that she got a lot of attention way back and seemed to be comfortable that she was out of the limelight while she was here on the island.

Hal felt a small pang of envy because he was either picked on or completely ignored. There were only a handful of people who paid him any positive attention and he got a bit too attached. His parents were usually a little too busy to smother him with that. And to cope up with everything, he decided to be a little withdrawn from everyone else in the past 2 years. He thinks it did him some good with having to accept that he didn't need all the attention though. But it was a tediously long process of adjusting.

"Don't get too used to it though. I mean, independent life isn't as... exciting as it is at first. Well, you'll probably get a roommate or something but... it'll start getting a bit dull and repetitive afterwards." Hal said absentmindedly, his eyes glued to the book Wind was reading.

She noticed him eyeing her book and asked,
"Would you like to look through my geography book? Do you have a test or something you need to study for? I don't mind if you borrow it, as long as you don't rip it up or anything."

"Huh?" Hal looked at Wind for a second, like he was trying to decode what his new friend was saying. As soon as what the girl said registered to his thoughts, he waved his hand dismissively, "No, sorry. I was probably spacing out and sorta fixated on your book."

He gave her a tired grin, "And if I ever borrow anything from you, don't worry about it being ruined or anything. I know how to take care of things."

Hal breathed out as he set the things on the side temporarily before propping his arms on the table, head resting on one hand. "Anyway, I usually can't study outside my dorm so I usually read through my notes the nights before, unless I can go back there during the day." a pause, "It's barely your first day, though. Or do you just like reading those kinds of books?"

Wind gave him a small smile and replied,
"Not really, I just like looking at the pictures of all the different places and hoping I can go there one day. I'd especially love to see Paris or England or Scotland. Do you have anywhere you'd like to travel to someday?" I never went much of anywhere before I came here. It's like a whole new adventure!"
