"Adelene!!! Come 'ere lass!"

Adelene perked up her head from the bottles beside the counter as Kranz shouted from the small yard behind the shop. He always shouted like that, not bothering to leave his work even for just one second once he started. Adelene actually liked that about the old man, and never complained about being interrupted with whatever she was doing. She hurried to the yard and stopped by the doorframe.

"Yessir?"

The sound of coal crackling, metal melting, and blades being hit hard into perfect shape by a large solid hammer echoed in hot air. The echoing hits of the hammer only stopped when the old man straightened his back to face his employee. He had a few black smudges on his face. "Addy, we 'ave a new part-timer t'day. Gonna arrive anytime soon so make sure ya guide 'im well, yes? Just the usual stuff is fine."

Adelene tilted her head. New workmate, huh. She didn't expect they'd have another one, but then again manning the shop wasn't really as simple as it seemed. The shop was pretty spacious, and there were different dangerous weapons everywhere. While Adelene was an expert fighter, being in a medieval-themed dress made it less easy to move. Things would not go well if some bad guy comes in to make trouble. Or worse, if more than one come and try to rob the shop. Right. A workmate would make the shop more secured.

"Alright, sir!" she responded gladly. She made a cheeky grin, as she joined her hands together behind her. "Should I make him wear the uniform though? I mean, if it's the first day..."

"Nah, we can make 'im wear it next time. But make sure ya give it to 'im before he leaves today."

Adelene made an informal salute before going back to her spot behind the counter. She sat down a wooden chair, while waiting. It sure was a slow day. Meanwhile, the sound of hammering has resumed, pushing away silence. With a new workmate, there would be even less silence in the shop. Nice.

==> Allan.

Allan didn't quite have any idea why on earth did he manage to get a job at Blades and Potions. Well, he didn't know how well he'd fit in any other establishments for one thing, the cafes that had better pay looked intimidating. The shop looked really nice though; he had his share of RPGs back in high school and actually working in one made him chuckle inwardly. Though part of him wonders why there should be a weapon shop in the island. How often do they get costumers? Or even just visitors to just window shop?

All of a sudden, he suddenly remembers what the old owner told him when he signed up for the job. He had a couple workers already employed. Allan was a little nervous about meeting them. Of course, it would be proper if he tried to be cooperative with his workmates but it would really be good if they actually made friends. But aah, scary thoughts begone.

Allan stood at the from of the door taking a few deep breaths, "Okay, just need to make a good impression since it's your first day," he muttered to himself before opening the door and walking through. He'd been in the shop before, of course. That was when he talked to the owner but walking in under the context of being an employee made it feel like it was his first time there.

His attention immediately landed on the girl at the counter. He was already guessing she was one of his workmates now. "U-um, hi there..! I'm the new part-timer here um," he let out an awkward chuckle. How was this supposed to go again? "My name's... Allan. Nice to meet you...?"

Adelene did not want to be seen idle behind the counter, but there was nothing to do so she remained seated there, tapping on the counter with her fingers, as she waited. And then the bells above the opening door rang and made her jump up from her seat, her heart almost blown out of her chest.

Startled, she turned to the door wide-eyed. But she tried her best to remove that startled expression as soon as she realized that the newcomer was her new workmate. "Oh, hi! Sir Kranz just told me you were coming," she said, and walked to the side of the counter and out to join her new workmate in that part of the shop. She held out her hand for a shake, as she beamed brightly at him. "Name's Adelene. I'm also a part-timer, so it's kinda great to have you here. Sky, the other person working here, mans the shop when I'm not around. Uh..."

It was slowly getting awkward. She didn't exactly know how to start the briefing. "...so what should I call you? Oh, and Sir Kranz is at the back. I wonder if you wanna let him know you've arrived?"

She seemed nice, Allan thought. At least that was now out of his concerns; she looked like the kind of person who was easy to work with and that comforted him at the most part. He gave her a shy smile, "It's nice to meet you, Adelene..!" he chirped, returning the gesture.

Allan quickly withdrew his hands just as soon. He was used to awkward air that he realized Adelene couldn't figure out what to do next. I wonder of you wanna let him know you've arrived? "You can just call me Allan. It's fine. And.. I'll do that, if he'd been expecting me arriving, after all. It'd probably be a bit rude if I don't." he let out a soft chuckle.

Allan walked a little past her but as soon as he realized she might have wanted to she go with him, he turned to face her, "Um, if you don't want to be bothered, I could... just go and see him myself," he really didn't want to bother her from... whatever she had planned. "I can just go ask him about stuff if you're...busy." Did it sound like he was trying not to talk to her? He hoped not.

"Oh, nice to meet you then, Allan."

Adelene was honestly not comfortable all of a sudden. Allan, was he just shy? But really, actually, she thought he didn't like her. Was her approach wrong?

She forced her smile to remain on her lips, despite her eyes immediately showing her mood's drop. "He's in the back. Just follow the hammer sounds. I'm pretty sure he won't mind being interrupted with a hi," she replied, pointing to the door at the back beyond the counter and the storage area. "Uh... If possible though, come back soon. I'm supposed to tell you what to do around here, and show you around. Sir Kranz can't leave his work long enough to do it himself so you'll be stuck with me. If you're not up to it though, I don't think it's a good idea to force you..."

What the hell was she saying? How was it not a good idea, this was work for Pete's sake. She cringed. There's no way to take it back, is there?

Allan could never look up at people's eyes to read their reactions but by the sound of her voice, Allan could tell he just made a wrong step. She sounded upset. Ah, maybe he shouldn't have dismissed her offer like that..?

Allan breathed out a short sigh before turning to Adelene with a smile, "Alright. I'll be back in a jiffy." he said quickly turning and making his way to the back of the shop. While his feet kept him going and his ears guided his way, his thoughts was filled with dialogues of how he'd approach Adelene afterwards. He just left her there hanging and it made him feel anxious.

As he reached to back door, he breathed another sigh before knocked, "Sir Kranz?" he called out. He heard the muffled response of the old man before opening the door, "Good morning, sir. I'm here to report." he said meekly, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Good to 'ave ya, lad!" The old man greeted him, "'Ave ye met Addy yet? She'll be your guide for t'day."

"Ah, yes I've met her. She told me she'd be the one to to the briefing for me. I can see you're busy, sir, so I won't hold you up too long." He gave the old man a nod before turning away in a huff to even see the old man nod back. Allan gave himself another mental slap in the face for that. He was doing a bad job already and he had only been there for less than thirty minutes.

He found his way back to the main shop, his thoughts only focused on the rehearsed lines he'd been making for Adelene. Should he apologize first? Wait, what was he supposed to apologize for? That he was rude? That he offended her in some way? Ah, this was so hard.

He found the girl back at her station. "Um, Adelene?" he said, his voice coming out meek. Allan cleared his throat before he spoke again, "I-I'm back...!" he said followed by awkard chuckles.

The girl was still where she had been the last time. She was looking at the potion shelves by the time Allan came back, though. Her head shot up towards him, and her lips automatically curved up to a smile. "Welcome back," she greeted before gesturing for him to come closer. She didn't seem like she noticed the awkwardness in the male's tone, and she also seemed like she's already let the thing a while ago slip.

"Did the old man say anything, by the way?" she asked, unconscious tilting her head slightly. "Come here, let's start," she said. She wasn't stepping away from the potions, and seemed pretty excited to introduce the beautiful bottles to him.

"There aren't many stuff you have to memorize, but these are pretty important. So we're going to learn about these first. Okay?"

Allan was a bit surprised that she smiled at him. She wasn't upset about earlier, he wondered. He felt like she'd already let it pass and he was probably the one who was overthinking. But if she was upset, he'd really feel guilty.

"Ah, no. He didn't really tell me anything important," he said returning the smile. "He just said something about you being my guide. I guess, you kow, until i get used to things, maybe?" he said, sounding a litte unsure as he walked to Adelene's side.

He could see the rows of varying potions, lined up neatly on the shelf. "There aren't many stuff you have to memorize, but these are pretty important. So we're going to learn about these first." she told him. Allan responded with a singy hum.

He thought for a moment. "Um, if i could interrupt, ahh, do these potions actually have their actual effects? As in, they're really real?" He didn't know why he had asked that question but what was the harm in asking?

What was the harm in asking?

Ah, but Adelene immediately gave him a wide-eyed look of disbelief. Shocked that he even asked. "O-Of course they're real! Sir Kranz is a legit mage! He's awesome! He can do so much stuff others can't!" And before they knew it, she was starting to throw a fit. A childish-like one, that quickly died down. And then her straight face right after showed that she was not serious about snapping.

"No worries, I'm not angry. But seriously, we can't sell fake stuff or it's going to ruin the shop's reputation."

The small shelf had four levels, each of them having their own colors for the potion bottles. The top most had purple translucent bottles with yellow sealers, and inside of each bottle was thick dark fluid. "These are the healing potions. They're all in this kind of bottle, so don't forget the color coding," Adelene explained. And then she pointed at the second level, with dark blue bottles with gray seals. She told him that these were physical strengthening potions. The ones on the third level were red bottles. They were the disarming potions, meant to weaken abilities. And the lowest level had the teal bottles for sleeping potions with varying degrees of effectiveness.

"We also have enhancement potions, but the customer would have to specify what ability they want enhanced before getting their item," she said lastly, before turning to Allan again. "What's your ability, by the way? I'm pretty sure you have one, since the main purpose for manning this shop is protecting it. I mean... look around, there are weapons everywhere. If a crazy person walks in... We need to do what we must."

Allan was taken aback at Adelene's reaction to his question. Of course, it wasn't like he expected them to be fakes. He knew coffee shops back at home that were themed like role-playing games but they just kept with the theme. Then again, this was an island with mages and all, chances are, if a book shop sold spellbooks then they probably were selling legitimate ones.

As Adelene's fit died down and Allan felt like he was free to speak, he let out a soft wry chuckle, "Sorry, I was just... curious." Allan cleared his throat when he realized his voice came out raspy, "I kinda... forget sometimes I'm in this island filled with mages." Just because he had magic potential, doesn't mean he could easily believe in magic a-la Harry Potter, right?

Allan decided not to speak any further as Adelene guided him through their merchandise. He sometimes paused to think about the color coding. Red was usually healing, if not green, but never purple. He always thought purple was poison. The others also didn't coordinate with how he remembered potions in games and novels but who says fiction was ever completely accurate?

When Adelene finally turned to ask Allan about his abilities, he completely blanked out. Was that a requirement!? Then why did the old man agree to hire him? Well, he had background for martial arts from back home, and technically he could apply that to swordsmanship--and it'd be like wielding two swords at the same time. Maybe that was one.

"Well, um, I know some forms of martial arts so I think I'll be okay," he said hesitantly. He took another moment. Allan rubbed the back of his neck, "And well... I'm sort of psychic? I think I'll be able to tell if something bad would happen in the store so I think we'll be alright..!"
