Pebbles in the water

She sat near the water, almost in it, eyes closed, head tilted upward, humming a nameless tune.

As usual, her short black, red streaked hair was pulled into small ponytails of sorts, moving gently with the breeze that no one else could see or feel. The water around her drifted as though it was running, moving this way and that with non existant currents.

The land on which her small hands rested seemed to move restlessly, as though her presence disturbed it.

But still, all of this was a normal occurance for Lex. Even when her mind was at ease, Things never stopped moving around her. Perhaps is was her nature not to be still, and so it showed in her powers, but all the same, her world was always, always in motion.

A small black t-shirt hung on her frame, with splatters of white and green paint all over it. A pair of black jeans settles around her hips, held up by a studded belt with a heard for a buckle.

As she continued to hum, a small smile found it's way onto her lips as she wiggled fingers, and the earth immediately beneath her hands moving with them.

She opened her eyes for a moment, pausing as she willed a few pebbles to move into the water, dropping them, one by one into the water with little 'plinks' to the beat of the tune.

Trephas was up early in the morning again, and he had his red, blue, and yellow balls out again, juggling like he normally does. Not many people were up after all it was only dawn, he, himself was surprised that he was up this early, but he still enjoyed the morning rays of light. He continued to juggle not caring where he was heading, but of course he dodged the trees, and bush's, though basically everything else he was oblivious too.

His eyes like usual, or most of the time were dull and boring with no emotion at all. His hair was shaggy and not combed after he woke up, for it was also tangled a little. His clothes were just a gray tunic and some black pants.

Soon he was near the lake, and he nearly stepped into it before he brought himself out of his own little world of boredom and concentration. He quickly stepped away from the water, and the juggling balls dropped into the water. Trephas reached down picking them out of the water and stuffing them in a pouch that hung around his belt at his waist. He turned around to the right and saw a girl sitting near the lake.

He didn't know if he should go over and say hello, but he was willing to meet new people, unlike his cousin Eben who goes to this same school. He walked over, and stopped when he was near. "Hello..."

She raised her eyes, the water rippling as though someone had just removed their hand from the water. Her eyes took a moment to re-adjust before the recognition of a human being before clicked within them. A friendly smile found it's way onto her face as the perpetual motion around her stopped. "Hi." she responded with a dip of her head, pushing herself to her feet, and immediately shoving her hands into her pockets for a moment. "I'm Lex." she added, pulling a hand out of her pocket to extend towards him.

As she extended her hand, the rocks below her moved along with her hand, and she winced, willing the things around her to be still, for once. She managed to stop the things surrounding her from moving, but her hair still moved as though it was being blown by a wind that didn't exist, as did her clothes.

Trephas sort of raised his brows in curiosity about her powers though it was hard to tell since his eyes showed no emotion, though a smile came to his face and he returned his hand like anyone polite, but that is how his family is, polite, and they won't say anything if it isn't something nice to say. Though many people say that the Bane family is stuck up, just because the family is rich, and they live in a big house, but if someone talked about in front of Trephas he would stick up for the family.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Lex, I am Trephas Ark Bane, though I just like being called Trephas instead of my full name." He said bowing slightly. When he shook her hand, he returned it to his side and stood up tall like he does sometimes, though not to act like he was higher then anyone, just because his father always did so, and he got it from his dad, just like his hair and eyes, well the eyes ran through the family.

"So, Lex, do you like the lake?" He asked a simple question while running one hand through his hair but then he returned it to his side, looking at Lex as if curious to know her power.

As he returned his hand to his side, and stood up tall, Lex cocked her head, looking up at him. It was nothing new to have people taller than her, but his height wasn't something he was trying to lord over her. That was new.

"So, Lex, do you like the lake?"

Lex grinned and glanced at the water, which rose momentarily at the shifting of her attention to it. "As a matter of fact, Trephas, I do." Her smile softened as she held a hand out to the water, a small piece of it pulling it's self into a small ball, which was continuously rotating as she hovered it above her hand, looking at it fondly. "I like it's peacefulness." After she spoke, she allowed the water to stop spinning, and it dropped on her hand, down to the ground at her feet.

She placed the soggy hand on her hip, and glanced up at him again. "And you, Trephas Ark Bane, do you like the lake?" a small amused half smile found it's way onto her face, her eyes openly questioning. If she was curious, she wasn't one to hide it.

Trephas watched Lex as she used her ability to hold water, and he returned her smile with his own that was gentle and nice. And he listened to her answer, and then the some question Trephas asked her. "Yes, I also like the lake, and it is peaceful, my family lived on a lake." He returned his answer in a polite tune. She was the first person he is talking to since he came to the academy, and it felt nice.

"Um, what type of powers do you have, is it Telekineses? I have Telekineses and it seems like you would to, since you picked up the water like that." He said curious while he himself made some sand that was near the lake float up then let it fall back down to the ground.

"Though, I'm not very good at it yet, I only discovered it two weeks ago." He said casually.

Lex grinned once again at Trephas. "Yeah, I've got telekinesis. I'm surprised though, since my first thought would have been hydrokinetic if I'd seen someone do what I just did." she shrugged, moving a hand to tuck some loose hair behind her ear, only to have it 'blown' out again.

"I've had mine ever since I can remember. It's made life hard, that's for sure." As she spoke, the same sand he had lifted separated to an invisible finger drawing a smiley face in it. She glanced over at it, adding a circle around it, and spikey hair.

Content with her work, she turned her calm gaze back to the boy in front of her. "I guess you're new here then, huh?" she said, more as a statement than as a question. While she had known what she had for about 4 years, she hadn't told anyone about it, since in a school like the one she was in, it wasn't smart to look different. This was her first year in a school specifically for people like her.

Trephas merely nodded to what Lex had first asked, and he watched as her hair blew out from behind her ear, and it made him wonder. "Your powers seem... I don't know, a bit stranger, or out of control..." He said, hoping she didn't mind he said something about it, it was just wandering through his head.

"My family are very happy for me to have my powers, though I don't know if anyone else in my family have powers except my cousin Eben." He said while again watching the girl make a smiley face with her telekineses. She does seem to be able to control it very well, though I shouldn't say that I'm better, I bet I'm much weaker, especially since I just got my powers, he thought, deep in his own thoughts.

"And yeah, I'm new, and I haven't seen you here since I came to be at this academy, so I'm guessing your also new." He returned an answered to her.

Lex smiled softly at Trephas's apt notice. "It's true. My powers do seem to get out of control, mostly because I have so much mental energy that I haven't learned to harness it all..." she paused, looking up at the sky, before continuing, "if that makes any sense at all.."

Ah, a family that actually cared. What she would give for that. Her eyes turned sad for a moment, the sand she'd drawn into a smiley face being erased, blowing onto the water, which moved uneasily beneath the sudden unstable energy of her emotions. Likewise, the grass about then bent around against an invisible, untouchable wind.

She was silent for a moment finding a song to place in her mind, closing her eyes and enjoying it for a moment, before opening her eyes again, calmed, glanceing back up at Trephas, realizing that he'd just spoken. "Yeah. I am. I've never had real schooling for controling my gift, so I hope that this place will help."

"It makes plenty of sense." Trephas said and again returned her smile. "I don't know if my powers will get stronger, I'll just have to wait and see." He said quietly, running his hand through his hair again.

When Lex was silent Trephas watched, but then moved his right hand, and set it on her shoulder, hoping to give her a little comfort. It seems everyone is sad here, one way or another someone is sad, but Trephas has nothing to be sad about, except that his Uncle and Aunt had died not too long ago, that did make him sad, but not overly like his cousin Eben, who was the son of the Uncle and Aunt who died.

When she returned an answer, then he moved his hand back to his side. "Well, I think that is what this academy is for, to teach how to control your powers and to learn what a normal school would teach you."
