Peace and Quiet

Footsteps were surprisingly quiet upon the ground, not making too much of a crunch upon the snow. She was sick of making noise and was doing her best to keep silent. Dirty-blonde hair was pulled back into a pony-tail, and swaying side to side just a tiny bit as the girl walked. The girls blue eyes were turned to the ground, and her hands were stuffed inside the pockets of her black coat. The fourteen-year-old sighed quietly, not knowing why she had even come out here in the first place.

Oh, that was right. It was actually quiet here. That academy was filled with people, and the amount of noise had been beginning to give her a headache. It wasn't that she hated people or hated being around people, it was just that it was getting to her somewhat. Out here it was a lot better; there were less people, there was less noise, and it was just... well, peaceful. And considering what had been going on lately, with that thing after Jira, she needed some peace.

Jaden finally looked up. The sky was a little bit cloudy, and it wasn't that warm out. Ah, well. Anything was better than being cooped up inside all day. Besides, who knew, maybe she would meet someone. She didn't really care, since one person was a lot better and less noisier than hundreds. Plus, there was always the fact that she didn't know many people here and needed more friends, so in a way she was hoping she'd at least come across someone.

Topher hadn't been able to sleep in his room, the noise echoed all over the place. He'd had a bit of trouble sleeping during the day, and during the night, so he'd decided to come out to the forest, at least there there was no people. He'd climbed a tree, and curled up on a fairly large tree branch, and managed to fall asleep.

And then very loud footsteps woke him up. Actually, they startled him awake, and he fell out of the tree, with a very loud thump. Rather quiet for everyone else, but rather loud to him. He pulled himself into a sitting position and glanced at the person who'd woken him up. Surprisingly for him, he landed at her feet. Which meant that she'd been walking very quietly. He stood up, brushing himself off. "Hi." he said quietly. He smiled a small friendly smile, but didn't say anything more. The less he said, the better off he was, so, he waited for her to say something.

As Jaden continued on her way, she hadn't even noticed the boy in a tree that she would soon be passing. Her eyes were back on the ground, so she obviously wouldn't have seen him sleeping up in the branches. However, as soon as he fell from the tree at her feet, she noticed him. She was startled and took a few steps back, having not expected that to happen. Boys just didn't fall from the sky, after all.

She soon shook her head, and a look of concern came over her face as he stood up. She ignored his greeting for now, deciding what she had to say was more important. "Are you ok?!" she asked. "What happened?! Where did you fall from? Are you hurt?" A lot of questions, but she hoped he would be able to answer them all.

Topher tried not to wince as she spoke. Her voice wasn't screechy, and he was thankful for that, but people spoke so loudly. He tried to separate the questions in his head, answering all of them first with a quiet "I..I'm ok." that, he hoped would at least stop the flow of questions.

"I...fell from the t-tree" he pointed upwards, green eyes never leaving the new person he'd just encountered. "A..nd I think I answered all of your questions?" he smiled softly. It wasn't that he didn't like people, he just had a bit of trouble talking to them. He forced himself to calm down. It was quiet other than her, he sould be able to talk a little better here than anywhere else. He removed his eyes from her face then, looking down to study his shoes.

The girl let out a sigh of relief when he said he was ok. That was good, she was glad. She was a bit surprised, though, since she was guessing he had fallen from quite a height. Or, then again, maybe he hadn't fallen from too far up. Either way, she supposed it didn't matter.

She looked up when he said he had fallen from a tree. Strange... and amazing he wasn't hurt. Ah, well, he had said he was fine and Jaden didn't feel like questioning him. "I hope you don't mind my asking," she began, voice curious, turning her eyes back to him, "but why were you in a tree?" She tilted her head to the side somewhat. She knew people climbed trees for fun sometimes, but that thought hadn't entered her mind. She offered a smile in return and nodded her head when he said he had answered all of her questions.

She watched as he looked down to look at his shoes. He didn't seem too talkative, that was for sure. Ah, well, she was perfectly fine with that. "I'm Jaden, by the way," she introduced.

"Why were you in a tree?"

It was a fair question, but the answer, Topher knew, was an odd one. "I was sleeping." he muttered, not raising his gaze from his shoes. He shoved his hands into his pockets. He mentally berated himself for being so shy. But there really wasn't anything he could do about it.

He glanced up as she introduced herself, accidentally making eye contact with her. He broke the eye contact immediately, looking instead at a tree. "I'm Topher." he figured he needed to be polite and introduce himself back.
