Of the two of them, there was no question on who was more subtle. Even without his powers, he was an ordinary enough human, and Lelei was... not. Even on the Manta Carlos Islands, filled with all sorts of species, non-humans still got looks. There were plenty who came from the continents proper, who had grown up with only minimal (or no) exposure to non-humans.

He might be good at tracking, but he'd have to stay far back.

Angelo had no such requirement. He let himself slide invisible, and the moment Lelei glanced away from him, he'd be gone. They were drunk, and he was not at all worried about them paying attention, so he fell in shortly behind them, close enough to overhear every word.

To hear them tell it, the other group had been a bunch of assholes, and they'd clearly won the fight because they weren't getting arrested. It was all Angelo could do not to laugh, and he didn't linger very long.

It was less than five minutes before he appeared a bit farther up the street. He did not appear the way someone with invisibility might - it was simply that people around him noticed him, where as before they're simply missed him.

Nothing strange or alarming about that.

On Lelei's end, he found himself worrying that the group of kids that he was following would end up causing more trouble. The direction of their retreat took them into direct line of sight of several bars and pubs. It would be no stretch of the imagination to assume that the kids might get more boozed-up, for almost any reason. Fearing that outcome, Lelei approached further up the street in case he needed to enter a bar and inform the owners.

Fortunately, his fears did not come to pass. Whatever the kids were up to, they were not interested in drinking anymore. They seemed more preoccupied with making up excuses for why they were the winners in the scenario, and boasting about how they would have won anyway or some such. Young men were great at self-delusion when it came to confrontations and their outcomes.

Satisfied, Lelei turned back to try and find Angelo. Now he might have actually seen Angelo earlier. But only after a few scans back and forth across the street did Lelei actually end up finding Angelo.

"Oh! There you are. How long were you standing there?"

He finally went up to Angelo to report.

"Well, the kids look like they'll be okay for now. What about on your end?"

He hadn't been there long, and his face split into a grin. "Not long. Only a bit before you." He hadn't lurked there out of sight from Lelei just to torment him.

"Fine on my end. They've wandered off." He gave a little shrug. "I would be surprised if they gave us any more trouble. They seem to be on their way home." Which meant there was no need for a report, which was a relief and a half.

"Back to patrol I guess?" That would probably be the extent of their excitement for the night.

Tag to @"Critical" - anything else, or should we have them part ways?

"Man, when you put it like that, it's kinda spooky."

The very idea that Angelo could have been standing right off to the side of Lelei without him noticing at all felt unnerving to a degree. It was then that Lelei felt he fully grasped the extent of Angelo's power, and the kind of effect it could have on people. He wondered how many people that Angelo had watched had ever developed the back-of-the-neck "someone is watching me" tingly feeling.

Lelei nodded at Angelo and the two went back to their patrol for the night.

Fortunately for the two of them, the almost-fight between the drunk boys proved to be the worst that they would encounter that night. There were a few minor incidents that were taken care-of on the spot, which generally amounted to them helping a civilian with some chore or pointing them in the right direction. It was all the kind of stuff anyone could have assisted with, but two officers were the most inviting to ask.

During the down times, Lelei got to know Angelo some more and he found himself growing to like him a lot. Lelei even started feeling comfortable with revealing a little bit about his personal life and showing off some of the cute pictures he had taken of his pseudo-boyfriend/boytoy. None of the dirty stuff of course.
