Panic attack!

Jamie was trying to think about the ocean.
He'd seen it for the first time on the plane, staring down at the island and trying to concentrate on beaches and shells and clear blue water and anything but the Academy, looming huge and imposing a while away from the rest of the town. And then the plane landed and he couldn't see the ocean anymore and he'd spent a half hour waiting for his luggage and another twenty minutes working up the nerve to ask someone where it was. They informed him that it was on the next flight and told him to come back tomorrow, and then he was outside and trying to figure out how to get to the school from the airport, and was reintroduced to the thought of the Academy and all that it entailed and implied and he'd panicked and began walking desperately in the opposite direction of the school.

He'd ended up on the beach, and was now sitting on a boulder a few yards into the surf, hugging his knees to his chest and staring blankly at the waves. His hands were shaking and his head felt light and he was trying to think about the ocean but it wasn't distracting him any more.

Instead he was wondering how many students went to Starlight, and trying desperately to recall superpowers from the X-men comics he used to read. The thought that there was an entire Academy full of people with powers was still something he couldn't completely wrap his brain around. His own power freaked him out enough, and the thought of hundreds of other teenagers with hundreds of different powers was enough to make him sick - precisely what he was trying to avoid at the moment.

He yanked at the knot of his already-loosened black tie, pulling it completely undone and dropping it on the rock next to him. He always felt self-conscious in ties and dress shirts, and was reluctant to dress so uncomfortably, but he heard the annoyance in his mother's voice when he'd come downstairs that morning in a too-big hoodie. She'd finally asked him, 'why don't you put on something nicer?' and he hadn't had the heart to argue over clothes when he knew he wouldn't be seeing her again any time soon. When he'd came back down in an untucked white dress shirt and jeans, pulling awkwardly at unbuttoned cuffs and feeling foolish, she's beamed and handed him the tie without saying a word. Now he was realizing he'd have to sleep in his clothes, wear them until his luggage arrived, and suddenly keeping the peace felt like a pretty stupid move. He tugged on one earring listlessly, wondering if his roommate would be skinny enough that he could borrow some clothes from him.

...Oh crap, he was gonna have a roommate.

Dorn liked to take a walk a little now and then to gather his thoughts as he said to himself. He calmly walked over the sand of the beach and his gaze dreamingly watched out over the wide sea. It was really beautiful actually, but something else captured his interest from a corner of his eyes and Dorn slowly turned his head so that he looked in the direction. It was a boy sitting on e large boulder, the teen calmly tilted his head to the side as it looked like the boy seemed a little down. Well this looked like something Dorny might be able to help out with?

Dorn slowly walked closer and he stopped a few meters away from the boy. "Hello there" he greeted with a friendly voice. "You look rather lost." he moved some of his hair away from the face with a slight gesture and then he walked closer and examined the boy for a moment, he did look like he was around the same age as Dorn was actually, maybe a little younger, but he seemed like a friendly person alright.

He noticed the tie on the rock beside him and picked it up, those clothes did seem rather to much to use normaly like this. "Let me guess, your mother wanted you to use these clothes right? I bet that was it, mothers I tell you. Should really keep away from the clothes." he then handed the tie to the boy again. "The name is Dorn Koon, but call be Dorn" normaly he would have been very shy to even talk to someone, but his quess was that this boy seemed so lonely...he could use someone to talk with and Dorn loved to meet new people...he just had to pull the courage to actually talk to them. That did not happen often, even less with other people around that could see and hear him, but as it was now thw two of them was alone on the beach this wonderful day.

James was frowning intensely, his chin resting on his knees, trying to figure out how roommates would work at Starlight Academy. Would it be a boy? What if he had an annoying power, like glowing in the dark? What if he could read minds? What if-

"Hello there"

James started violently, turning around to face the source of the voice with surprise. He half expected someone with blue hair, or red eyes, or something odd, but the boy who was speaking seemed fairly normal - at first glance, at least. "Ah... Not lost."He said, his voice soft against the splashing of the waves. "Just hiding, I guess." he admitted, hugging his knees to his chest again.

His cheeks flushed red, and he accepted the tie back, rubbing the silky fabric sheepishly. There, proof that he looked idiotic. Why, why had he let her talk him into that? "Something like that. I guess I look pretty ridiculous..."
He wound the tie through his fingers absentmindedly, repeating "Dorn Koon," after the boy. "Um. I'm James. Lindon. Hi." He paused, staring intently at the tie. "Are you... You know. From the school?" He glanced up at Dorn, quickly shifting his gaze back to his hands.

Dorn noticed the emotioness from this boy, he was shy like hell. It was rather cute actually, well Dorn was going to show that he was not any danger. Calmly he sat down on the rock next to the boy. "Hidding you say?" he asked calmly. "You just arrived to the island right? Well I am sure you will be just fine, with some time and all that." Dorn then thought about what he would sya next.

He examined his reactions and Dorn tilted his head a little to the side. "Very nice to meet you James" he said happily, he was happy actually, Dorn mostly was happy all the time. He patiently listened to the boy as he began to ask the question, in fact Dorn understood what he was going to ask before he had asked everything out. "Yea sir, I am from the Starlight Academy, just came here a few days ago actually. It is not such a bad place at all, much friendly people." he watched the sea and took a few deep breathes. Then he shook his head slightly and glanced at the boy next to him.

Dorn stepped towards the rock and Jamie's fingers froze, although he gave no other indication that he noticed what he was doing. When the boy sat down next to him, he glanced over at him curiously, not quite sure of what to do next. He felt foolish, and shy, and uncomfortable in his clothes. He tugged at an earring nervously, taking care not to look over at Dorn.

"Is it that obvious I'm new?" he wondered aloud, realizing quickly that his mother couldn't dictate his wardrobe over the phone and regretting asking such a stupid question. See, this is why he can't go to this school, this is why he should just find a way to get rid of his powers and go home...

"Really?" He glanced over at Dorn, truly inspecting him for the first time. "You don't look new. I mean. You look like you know what you're doing." he paused, squinting at the sea and feeling like he was being watched by the other boy.

"Friendly? Really? Do they all have..." he paused, holding his hands out mystically as if he was dictating an otherworldly force. "Flashy... Powers, and stuff?" A pause, and he turned to the boy with eyes wide. "Do you?"

Dorn laughed a little at what he asked first. "It could be, but then again I have a little help to see such things actually. Your nervous so that is why I made a wild guess that you where new, that´s all" he explained calmly and examined the buy withy his blue eyes. "But do not worry, I know you will do fine" he smiled brightly at the boy when he said this, then he sighed and moved another lock of his hair away from the face, they often feel down so he had to move them out of the way.

He blinked a few times as it would see that the boy was surprised to hear he was new. "Well I am not much older then you around these parts, you will see that in a few days you will feel just as comfortable as I am, trust me on that one" he picked up a small rock from the sand and examined it between his fingers for a moment before he calmly threw it out into the water, he watched it fly though the air and then land with a small ploop in water. This boy was really nervous about this alright, good thing Dorn was an empth and could feel his emotiones, he could also alter them if he wnated but no that would be wrong.

He tilted his head to the side once again and returned his gaze to James once more. "well the people I have meet have all been very friendly to me actually, but just like with any school there are those who thinks themeselves as the rulers. Such people are best to just ignore." he then got it, why the boy was so nervous about it all apart from begin new. Dorn smiled and nodded. "You will find that all students here poassess some kind of different ability James, most likely just like you."

Dorn frowned for a moment and then he nodded. "Yeah I have powers, one of them I could tell that you where nervous, I have empathic abilities and is able to feel the emotions of people I meet. It is not always something I can control but it have helped me a few times." he exaplined for James, he did not say anything about his ability to bend metal at first, but he thought it might be good to tell it right away. "and I also have the power to control metal, just like Magneto in X-man actually. But it is never so flashy as they write it there I assure you"

The teen made a pause and then he thought for a moment. "So what do you do then James?" Dorn asked with a curious voice.

Jamie listened attentively, resting his head on his knees and flickering short glances towards Dorn every now and then. He was... Nice. Very nice. It was relieving to know that even one student at the Academy was not an elitist concerning newcomers. He folded his tie and placed it neatly on the rock beside him, crossing his arms over his knees and listening to the taller boy speak.

He smiled softly, tilting his head towards Dorn and fiddling with one earring. "I don't think you need to be an empath to notice when I'm nervous," he admitted, shifting his gaze back to the ocean.

"Ah, that's cool!" He clapped his hands together excitedly. "You have two powers! Did you get them both all at once?" He'd never considered that some people might have multiple powers - an idea which would worry him, had the person in question not been this boy.

"So what do you do then James?"

He blushed, not wanting to admit how weak his power was compared to Dorn's. "I can, um. Sometimes move things. And people. Telekinesis, I guess. I can't... control it or anything." He shrugged, beginning to fidget with one of the buttons on his shirt cuff.

Dorn examiend him and he had to admitt the boy was very easy to read really. "Yeah that might be true, but then again that is not always something bad." he grinned slightly as he said this. "I understand very well why your nervous to, actually I can be very nervous around people I do not know. But mostly when there are much people around, one will have to force me into speaking one single word then" he laughed and shook his head for a moment, then he looked at his watch and frowned a little. "It would be time now" he said lowly and picked out a white bottle, he opened it and picked out a small white pill from inside, he examined it for a moment before he placed it inside of his mouth, while he did this he picked up a small bottle with water and used it to get the medicin down. With this over Dorn calmly placed the bottle inside of his pocket again.

Dorn watched how excited the boy seemed over his powers, it made him really happy that someone said that. "Thanks, not that I can do the things magneto does like to move an entier bridge or something like that. But I train it and who knows what I can do one day." he thought about this for a moment after he had said it, it was fun to think about what he might be able to do with his powers. "Yeah I have two powers Jame, you will find it that to have more then one power is common on this islans, but then again here are people from the entier world."

Dorn examined his face when he told about his power and then the boy smiled an encouraging smile. "Well that is a really nice power you have, I can only move metal, but you can move anytyhing you want. You say you have no control over your own power? Well that is why we are here my friend, we are here to learn, not only do math and other school thing. But also to train our powers. Would be rather usless if you came here and already knew all about your own powers?" he then gave the boy a slight pat on the shoulder. "Before you know it you will be able to do all kinds of wonderful things with yours power."

Jamie watched him take the strange medicine silently, although not without curiosity. He opened his mouth to ask him about it, but decided against it, politely shifting his gaze away from the boy. Probably something to do with his powers. Or maybe the guy just had an illness - having powers didn't necessarily make you invincible.

"Yeah I have two powers Jame, you will find it that to have more then one power is common on this islans, but then again here are people from the entier world."

"Hmm." He tilted his head to the side, considering this new information. " Are you, like... super powerful? Since you have two? Do you-" He cut himself off, pushing the hair from his eyes sheepishly. "Sorry. I'm asking questions."

He blushed, feeling foolish. "Well, I'd rather have your powers then mine. Mostly all I can do is make stuff explode. And not even on purpose." He unfolded his legs, swinging them back and forth over the edge of the boulder. "But... Thanks." He grinned over at Dorn shyly, uncertain of whether he should give him a pat on the shoulder back, eventually deciding against it. "You're a good empath; you know what to say to make people feel better."

But Dorn was no idiot and he could see the curiosity in the boys face as he watched the medicin. Dorn smiled a little and then he picked out the bottle again and handed it over to the boy so that he could take a look at it. "I have a malfunction in my heart, so I have to take these pills two times a day, sometimes more sometimes less." he explained to him. "Have been taking them since I was three years old." he then brushed some sand of his jeans and examined his own feet for a moment.

He was rather surprised by such an odd question. "Super powerful? No I would not say that really Jamie boy. Just because I have two powers does not make me more powerful then the once with just one power." he was a little curious about what the boy had in mind to ask, he shook his head and gave the boy a slight poke in the side with his index finger. "Now listen to me here, you should never be sorry for asking things. You really think I am the kind of person that would have anything against questions? Now what was it you wanted to ask a moment ago...Do i?"

He got a serious face and sighed slightly. "Well I will share something with you that I have not told many before, I actually was close to kill myself when my powers first came to affect, I was pierced then and I would have been dead, but I was lucky that a friend was there at the time, he found out about his own powers to heal wounds so he saved me." he looked up into the sky for a moment and then back at James. "You have a special gift and a great power, just like with me you just have to learn to control it, I might not be such a good teacher on the subject but I might be able to help you control your powers if you want me to help you?"

Dorn laughed at the last comment. "Well I could not leave you sitting her all by yourself now could I? What kind of a friend would I be if I did not try to help? My empathic power has nothing to do with my words, I just happens to understand how you must feel Jamie boy." he then grinned and ruffled the boys hair slightly in a friendly way with the palm of his hand.
