"Do I have to spell it out?" He said in between bites, still speaking casually, not even really looking at her while he talked. "Your flat as a board and small enough to look like you aren't even out of primary school yet. There's a lot of things guys want, and you don't have any of it."

He shrugged indifferently. He spoke as if these were just facts, like how she felt wasn't even relevant to the simple truth, rather than the very targeted, hurtful comments they were. He wolfed down the last big chunk of chicken, before going to the sink and washing his hands.

"This guy probably thinks you'd be an easy lay or something," He continued. "Best not to get too excited about it."

Oh. Well. Jazz had by no means thought that Angus would have said something nice, but she expected him to pull back before saying something that genuinely awful. It was no secret that she had extremely fragile self esteem regarding her body image, and he was throwing all the perfect emotional gut punches to exploit that.

"Y...y-you...I'm not..." Jazz swallowed hard, lip quivering the slightest bit and fingers tapping out a fidgety staccato rhythm on the countertop. It was obvious that she was just barely keeping herself in check to avoid crying. "...That's not...not true. He compliments me all the time, says that I'm b...beautiful. If he didn't believe that, he wouldn't...kiss me."

"Oh boy."

Angus raised his head and pinched his nose as if her clearly upset reaction was somehow an inconvenience for him. He stepped away from behind the sink, walking over to where Jazz stood and put a hand on his shoulder. He smiled down at her, all white teeth and relaxed posture, and absolutely no warmth in his eyes.

"Jazz, I know you don't know enough about guys to understand this yet, so let me give you some advice." He said, with a tone that might have even sounded brotherly if it were coming from anyone but him. "Guys will say whatever they need to say if they think it'll get them some easy ass. Especially when it's someone who's too inexperienced or desperate to know better, like you."

He leaned down, giving her shoulder a squeeze that was perhaps a little too tight as he continued, quieter.

"Don't get your hopes up too much, ok? It'll hurt less."

With that, he let go, giving her a condescending pat on the head as he stepped passed her, walking towards the stairs.

Watching Angus start to approach her, it took every bit of willpower Jazz had not to step back away from him. It was beyond fucked up that she was actually afraid of her own brother, but she couldn't deny that it was true. He had always been imposing to her ever since they were both little, mostly just by merit of his actions, but the massive difference in stature certainly didn't help.

She flinched just a slight bit when he put his hand on her, breathing slightly but noticeably faster and more staggered as he spoke. The condescension in his voice was bad enough, and something she was used to, but the words themselves felt like little daggers in her chest. Jazz saw perfectly clearly in his eyes that the bitterness he was letting loose was fully genuine, wincing at the extra painful squeeze and shuddering once he let go.

However, once he turned to walk away from her, she couldn't hold in in anymore. Her thumb tapped against her hip, too shaken to be rhythmic anymore. "...Wh...y are you..." Her voice was soft, an almost wilted quality to it. It was clear as day just how much she was pushing to get these words out. "W-why are you like this? I didn't...all I've tried to do was be here, f...or, for you, and everyone else. I didn't even do anything and you're just...y-you treat me like just..." She was choking on her words by now, tears welling up in her eyes. "Dirt."

And he'd just finished improving his mood too.

Angus came to a stop just before he reached the stairs, pausing for a moment as a sneer emerged back on his face. Where the fuck did she get off acting like she was trying to help him? Everything she ever did only made life harder for him. Hell, the only reason he was on this stupid island was because of her own fuck up.

"Oh just suck it up already." He suddenly snapped, turning back to look at her. "If you’re gonna cry like a little bitch you can do it without the pity party. I don’t want you doing anything for me and I don’t need it.”

He waved his hand dismissively at her, before turning back to the stairs.

“Go cry to your boyfriend if that’s all you’re gonna do. Just don’t be surprised if you doing something aside from putting out turns him off.”

With that, he started to walk up the stairs to his room.

As soon as she'd forced the uncharacteristically confrontational words out, Jazz instantly felt the regret start seeping in, like a weight was pushing on her from all sides. All she could do was stand there, stunned beyond words and quivering at the utter toxicity coming from her brother. She couldn't take his passive aggressiveness alone for too long without needing to cry, but this was something else altogether.

Watching him leave up the stairs, it took Jazz a few moments to register that he was gone before moving back to grip the counter and steady herself. Now more than ever she wanted to be strong enough to ignore what he said, to tell herself it didn't hurt, but that was bullshit. She knew that she was just as weak as always, that the happiness she'd found in this new place more than likely wouldn't last.

Her head was a messy swirl of emotions, calling into question all the relationships she'd built here so far. Worry after worry that she had been able to suppress for so long came flooding back in in waves, and she couldn't even slightly hold back her tears anymore. She had to get out of the house, if only to be away from that asshole upstairs. Trying and failing to at least get a tiny bit of a hold on herself, she briskly made for the door and headed off to walk in a random direction, hopefully to somewhere she could calm herself down. So much for having a great day.
