Ignatius was not terribly impressed. Land was an investment. As the saying went, 'invest in land, they don't make it anymore'. Ignatius had always been a big believer in that, just as his father had, and his father before him. A good amount of his family's wealth had come from land, although for the most part they no longer owned big chunks of the city as they had in his great grandfather's day. Buying land was an investment. It wasn't likely the property values were going to go down while the population kept going up. No, it was always going to get more and more expensive to buy land.

He was not expecting for Aris to suddenly stumble backwards, and Ignatius's brows furrowed together in confusion and sudden worry. Had he fallen? Or been hit? Or... no, there was a literal bush growing under him, so obviously he was okay, unless it turned out his power was automatic...

"Leaving home can be difficult." He finally said, although he didn't have much more to say on that subject. He'd never really left home. Hell, he was still living in his childhood house, although he'd swapped bedrooms.

@"Thoth"

"I know," Aris said, adjusting his seat on the bush, Standing up wouldn't make much sense now anyway, and so he simply contoured the plant with his abilities, tweaking its density and shape until it became a green-colored stool.

Ahh, he was useless at this, wasn't he? He'd always struggled to relate with people, in no small part because his upbringing was so unusual. Most people did not live in mansions. Most people weren't groomed to manage massive companies. Most people couldn't just go out and spend a bunch of money how they wanted. Most people didn't have a family legacy to live up to.

"Have you considered simply returning home, if you're uncertain about something?" That seemed like the obvious choice to him - to just go home and make good if he wasn't sure. At least that way he'd have a home, and wouldn't be sleeping in the woods. And then he'd know for sure if it was the 'right choice' to come to the island in the first place. If he returned to his family and still felt the urge to leave, then that would be that, and he'd know to leave again. If he didn't, then he'd know returning was the correct point.

Of course, he had no idea what the full situation was. But he had no real way to relate - he could only take guesses.

(Sorry about that, the reply was a draft and it got posted on its own during the change. I was going to edit it, but then you replied already...)

Aris's eyes sharpened for a bit, but he then remembered that he hadn't exactly explained his situation. Nor was there any need for the details anyway. He simply declared, "I have made a commitment here, and going home is not an option. The most I can afford is a visit, perhaps when I have more than a month off. I live very far."

"Far" didn't quite cut it. Technically, he traveled an inordinate distance away simply to get here and in fact, had he not known his brother's behavior so well, he would have been lost on the way across the Blind Eternities. The shifting sands alone were enough to make inexperienced travelers lose their way by the hundreds.

In summary - he lived very, very far.

Although in all likelihood, this man probably wouldn't quite understand travel on that magnitude. He had scars, yes, but Aris had been born and lived with a different sort of hardship. Experience told him that the scars he saw earlier weren't exactly those of the "noble" sort. Maybe from brawls at most.

Aris chuckled lightly, amused. But he wouldn't say why exactly, not wanting to offend. "As of returning home... I don't suppose you actually live here? I'm guessing this is only for when you want to stomp around the woods... and maybe feel all-powerful for a time."

"I would prefer to describe it as being used when I need to let my instincts out. Even when I look fully human, that part of me still lingers, and if I keep it cooped up for too long, it acts out." It wouldn't be entirely incorrect to treat him as if he was two people in one body, but that wasn't quite right. He was just one person with two sides, and both sides were truly him.

"Alternate dimension, other planet, or time travel?" Ignatius was no newcomer to the islands - he'd lived there all his life. When people said 'far away', they didn't mean France or Morocco. They meant entirely different dimensions, places far beyond the understanding of modern humans.

Especially when the person talking was so clearly not human.

"I live near the edge of the city proper." He clarified, because he realized he hadn't actually answered the question in the first place. He didn't live in the city in a penthouse or anything, but he lived close enough it was an easy trip. The Paltiel's had always owned land, and they'd built their house before the city had gotten as big as it was. If the city kept growing, eventually the estate would be part of the city fully, and he'd no longer be able to claim to live anywhere near the edge.
