Huph!

Vlad made an audible noise as he stacked the last of his roommates, well former roommate, boxes against the door. They had left many of their old binders the night before and the day time didn't agree with them. So in all his free time, Vlad promised to leave them by the door before heading out. It was a surreal feeling to think that the person he'd slept next to for years was moving out but college was pulling away a lot of the older kids. The empty space that was filled with notes and schematics was now going to be filled with something completely different.

He sighed as he cursed the efficiency of the school staff. They had already notified him that a new student was going to be placed with him but he wished they'd give him a day to organize himself. His section of the dorm was rather messy since he was way yesterday. Instead of worrying about his stuff he focused on making sure his new living companion would feel like they had space for themselves to settle.

With a quick glance at his unmade bed and disorganized shoes, Vlad moved quickly and with a purpose to correct the unsightly scenery hoping to give some semblance of decency to his stuff before his new roommate arrived. "This is where the master would go on about having a better schedule and not becoming overly focused. 'Expand your mind, Vlad. I expect more from you Vlad....'" He said calmly while folding a blanket.

With everything finally packed up, Alby was left looking at his own empty room. His room mate had said their goodbyes and headed out just a few days prior, and now with his things all shoved into his backpack and suitcase, the room was completely barren. It was a little sad to have to go so soon, he hadn't spent much time in the room, but it wasn't all bad. Alby was a firm believer that when one door closed another one opened, and this was certainly the case. There was another room waiting for him, with a whole new face to meet, it was exciting.

He had the room number and it was time now, so with one last look, he turned and headed out, lugging his overstuffed suitcase and backpack behind him. Thankfully, it wasn't too far, he only had to go down one set of stairs and a short walk through a hall to get there.

He stood there for just a moment, sizing up the room, then he put on a smile and gave the door a knock.

Vlad's head snapped to the door when he heard the knock. He had hoped for more time but he would have to deal with what he had. He had fixed his bed to a respectable level and his clothes had been neatly put away or separated for laundry. All that remained were a stack of books spread out on his bed which probably made him look like more of an academic then he was. Not a bad first impression he thought to himself. His last roommate was a brainiac so he had pawned off a lot of old books to him.

"One moment!" He shouted as he scurried over to the door. It was an exciting feeling knowing that the person behind the door would be a major constant in his life. Without looking to see who had knocked Vlad swung open the door. The brown-haired and hazel-eyed teen filled his vision and immediately Vlad felt himself judging the man's demeanor and personality. He seemed well mannered, with no distinguishing marks or scars, and based on his luggage he didn't have much in the way of possessions.

"I'm gonna guess you're my new roommate," Vlad said putting on his friendliest smile. "You want some help with your stuff?" He'd point to the crowded suitcase.

Alby took a moment to look at the guy when he opened the door. Before long, his mouth curved into a smile. "That's right, I'm Alby, Alby O'Hara. Nice to meet ya." His mind was already at work, making predictions about this guy. He looked pretty human, but it was hard to say a lot of the time. Also seemed like a good guy, seeing as how he was so quick to ask if he could help.

"Yeah, sure, that'd be great." He held out the suitcase handle and then headed inside the room. When he got inside, he stopped and looked around a bit. It was pretty similar to his old room really. The only differences were the signs that someone was living in the one area. But to be completely honest, Alby was more interested with the resident than the room.

He set his bag down on the empty bed, then sat down on it himself. It felt exactly like his old one, which was good. "So... I take it you just lost your old room mate too?"

Vlad lifted the luggage with ease, bringing it inside so he could close the door from the mid-day chatter picking up in the hallway. "Yeah, I knew him for about two years. He used to help me with some of the homework I couldn't wrap my head around. Plus he was really good at making pie for some reason." He thought about the "Goodbye Pie" left for him in the fridge and caught a wave of joy. "They still have some stuff to pick up but besides a few boxes his old space is all yours."

Vlad placed the luggage down somewhere out of the way. "Did you know your roommate long at all?" Vlad took a seat on his bed, pushing some errant slippers underneath the bed where they properly belonged.

Two years. Wow. Alby was definitely going to miss his old room mate, he already did. But it seemed that this new guy had it much worse.

When Vlad put his luggage down, Alby gave a quick “Thank you.” Before answering the question. “Sounds like a pretty sweet guy. Two years is a while, I haven’t even been on the island that long. I’ve only been here for a couple months, which is about how long I’ve known my old room mate.”

He got up again, heading over to his suitcase and turning it on its side. Then he opened it up and started pulling out his clothes and putting them away while they got acquainted.

“I’m afraid I’m not so great at making pie. I haven’t done much baking” He giggled a little. “But maybe I’d be willing to try sometime. I mean, it can’t be that tricky, right?”

A couple of months was a fair bit of time on the island in his opinion but even in that period of time, he didn't expect a person to settle in right away. It had taken years for his foster family to even furnish their house. If anything he knew having a roommate probably made the transition easier.

Vlad laughed a bit at Alby's question "Don't ask me if it's tricky. My cooking is so bad I had to teach myself how to survive without it. The best thing I can make is a very high classed grilled cheese.... and maybe rice. That is if you don't mind it being sticky....Actually that brings up a good point. You got any allergies I should look out for?"

"Allergies? Nope, I'm allergy free." He smiled proudly, then asked Vlad the same thing. "What about you? You allergic to anything?" He stopped putting his clothes away for a moment as he waited for Vlad's answer.

"And you said you taught yourself to survive without eating your cooking, was that a joke or do you actually have the ability to go without eating." Alby was already starting at this. As much as he was managing to suppress his enthusiasm, he really wanted to know about this guy.

Everyone on Manta Carlos seemed to have a story or a set of incredible, unique abilities. He wanted to learn as much as he could from all of them, but it was often difficult seeing as how not everyone wanted to sit down all day and tell him their life's story. With a room mate, that wasn't the case. Over time, Alby would certainly learn a thing or two about Vlad.

No allergies gave him a sigh of relief as it was one less thing he had to worry about. His previous roommate had a deadly allergy to garlic which left him wary of brushing up against anything that might have traces of it. "The only thing that bothers me is silver, it tends to burn me pretty bad when I touch it...Oh, and Wolfsbane. I doubt you have frequent run-ins with the stuff but it can actually kill me so...yeah be careful please." He gave an enervated laugh.

He crossed his legs on his bed as Alby asked his question. He hadn't given much thought to the statement when he said it. "Yeah, I was taught how to draw nutrients by deep meditation. It comes in handy when I don't want to travel for food or fix anything. " Vlad had actually spent a few hours last night meditating and was due for some more today. He spent at least 8 hours every week in a meditative state and if he were so lucky he would perfect the technique of meditative sleeping.

"Silver and wolfsbane, huh?" In the rather large journal he had yet to unpack, those two things were both listed under common weaknesses for werewolves. Hearing that certainly caused Alby to consider the fact that Vlad could be one. Also thanks to his journal, he had a lot of random stuff in his bag. And in that stuff was actually a small bottle of colloidal silver spray. He kept a lot of small stuff like this in his backpack since he didn't really have much in terms of abilities and didn't want to end up helpless if he ever got attacked by any of the super powered residents of the island. His reckless nature left him getting into messes from time to time and he'd learned the hard way that it's best to be prepared for anything.

Although, in this case, considering how likely it was that Vlad was a werewolf, at least in Alby's head, he figured he might not want to explain the reason he had it. "Well I actually do have a bottle of colloidal silver on me... It makes a good antibacterial spray. But I'll be sure to keep it far away from you. Or I can even throw it out if you want, there's certainly less dangerous things to use as an antibacterial agent."

Then there was the drawing nutrients through meditation. Alby certainly enjoyed hearing about that. "That's really cool." His tone gained a childish excitement. "I bet that takes a crazy amount of focus."
