Despite her general dislike for the music room, Leticia had ended up taking refuge in a corner. Thankfully, no one had decided to come in and practice. So far, her general observation of the school population did not have any skill whatsoever in music. They played too loudly, too softly or just plain badly. With sensitive ears and resentment towards anything that irritated them, Letty tended to avoid music altogether. Classical wasn't bad as far as sound, but it just sounded so ... boring.

Opening the book she was meant to study, Letty was hit with a yawn and realised that she would like nothing more to sleep. Studying was far too overrated anyway. Thankfully, she wasn't too large of a person, and curling up somewhere inconspicuous wouldn't be too difficult. Scouting out a pile of unused percussion instruments, Letty could recognise the big bass drum, but all others were completely lost to her. Leaving her books and bag in a pile at her corner, Letty dragged her sweater over to the instruments, making a nest for herself and covering her face with the sleeves. Tucking her knees up into her chest, Leticia forced her breath to come slowly, calming herself before dropping into a nap.

Félix did not expect anyone to be here. He had figured out when and when there were no classes in the music room, and eventually found himself a little schedule of his own to practise inside. Even among music students, most would take one of the sound-proof rooms. But you couldn't just throw a whole drum set or piano into each small room. Those tended to either be in parts, like the drums, or left in the main room like the piano.

Félix opened the door and scanned the room briefly. Naturally, he hardly paid any attention to the percussion and didn't notice the second resident. He was humming to himself gently, a fresh musical idea in his mind and eager to try it out against the keys. It was his own way of studying, when he wasn't tirelessly droning through music theory worksheets or papers.

When he was alone, it was also a rare opportunity for him to sing. He almost never did it in public anymore, despite the unnatural beauty of his voice. Just like a siren, he own song was a dangerous one. No, he did not lure men (or women? Both?) to a watery grave, but their heartstrings could be plucked like the threads of a harp.

He didn't play anything in particular, but the style of the song was fast and rambunctious bebop. However, Félix did not play it particularly loudly. He was still thinking over how to play it, but he was always one step ahead of himself. It was no different, in a sense, than improvising. To further add that feeling to his music, Félix was also scat-singing.

The words themselves didn't make sense. They weren't supposed to. But it all the same carried a strong melody, harmonious with Félix's hands yet distinct in its own flavour. To add a little more noise to the scene, Félix's right foot started to tap against the floor to keep himself in rhythm. If he didn't notice his guest before, he certainly wouldn't notice her as he was blind and deaf inside his own artwork.

Jolted back awake, Letty hadn't realised that she had fallen asleep so quickly. She heard the door open and shut, footsteps shuffling towards something and then stopping. Her eyes slowly opening once more, Letty held her breath as someone began to play an instrument. She was about to get out as quickly as she could, unwilling to be startled by the angry notes of another amateur musician, but was held fast by an interesting piece.

Slowly sinking back to the floor, Letty used her height to worm her way under the large bass drum. From her new position, she could glimpse a person sitting at the piano, singing in some kind of foreign language and playing an upbeat song. Despite it being on the piano, it was ... Exciting, in a way. She had only ever heard the piano as a somber and mournful sound. Crawling out further, Leticia was entranced by the curious sound coming from the fingers and throat of this creature. Taking a moment to examine the artist, Letty noted that he had pale hair just like hers. However, she couldn't see his face from this awkward angle, and couldn't tell if he also had her bright golden eyes.

Moving to retract her body and go back into hiding, one of her horns caught the lip of the bass and pierced through the taut head, dragging the large instrument to flip on it's hinges, turning to face towards at it's attacker. Struggling wildly, Leticia bucked and shook her head, finally managing to shake the irritating instrument. The drum took it's fair share of damage, sporting large tears in the head and a scratched frame. Hissing at it, Leticia kicked it forward, dealing the final blow as it whined in place and eventually screeched forward on the rusted wheels. Deciding that she had probably lost the element of surprise by now, she collected her sweater and stood, indignant and trying very hard to retain most of her pride. Her eyes flickered to the piano, and she hopped towards it, depositing herself a small way next to it, watching the player with wide and curious eyes. "You play good."

Indeed, she had lost the element of surprise. Félix stopped everything almost immediately, by the first sharp ring of the drum's tight skim being gored right through. It was a song of agony that played in front of him, as some girl he had never noticed before struggled to get back up on her feet.

Honestly, Félix might have been more amused if not for the implications of her being there. She had just heard him seeing. Despite all the damage she had just done, the incredibly bizarre entrance, and the very curious horns on her head, the most disturbing element of meeting her was the fact she had just heard Félix sing.

“No,” Félix blurted the moment she complimented him. He meant to say... well, no, he hardly had any idea what he was supposed to say. That he didn't sing, and she hallucinated the whole thing? That he was in fact a terrible musician and did not deserve a lick of respect? Félix's face started to darken into a shade of purple. He was thoroughly embarrassed, “I mean, thank you.”

“Just don't – don't tell anyone, and I won't tell anyone what happened to the drum set.” Félix stood up once it was clear his hands were shaking at the piano. He was afraid to play anything else just at that moment. Still, he smiled and tried to be friendly despite all his worries.

“What were doing back there?” Félix forgot to introduce himself, but the mysteries weighed heavily on his mind above everything else.

Letty's head tilted immediately when he rejected her with a quick 'no.' No what? The word sounded so out of place in context that her face turned up in confusion. Oh, maybe he was just confused to have a stranger destroy a drum and immediately appear next to his own instrument. Touching her horns carefully, Letty had no plans to destroy any more instruments. "You're welcome. But why wouldn't you want me to tell ?" What was there to tell, anyway? That she had met an odd boy playing piano? That sounded like a great story. "I don't think too many people would be interested to learn that I listened to someone play piano."

Her face reddened as she tried to defend her hiding spot. It was a good hiding spot, until the drum tried to attack her, anyway. "I was ... I was sitting!" Instead of studying... "I just ... I felt like sleeping suddenly. Studying is boring."

A doubtful glance back at her pile of books reminded her that despite the major flaws in studying, it had to be done if she ever wanted to get out of school. Frowning now, Leticia crossed her arms and stood up with all the height she possessed, which wasn't much in the face of this much taller student."Hey. Who are you, anyway?"

“It's not the piano part I'm worried about,” Félix started to explain, but it seemed the horned girl had hardly a clue of what might have been dangerous about Félix. Was it worth bringing attention to it? He could either sidestep it and hope she never brought it up on her own accord, or trust her to keep mum. And since he barely knew her...

“It's the singing. It – It causes problems. I'd rather not have anyone know...” Félix's face was going darker still. He wiped his face with one hand, breathing slowly to try and reduce the colour in his face. She didn't seem affected by his voice, so that was a good thing. If she didn't make a racket so quickly, it might have gone worse.

“Sitting? Sleeping? Studying?” It sounded like she had more to this story to tell. A bit of a secret of her own, Félix supposed, but at least hers was more of a small white lie to cover up something embarrassing. Félix smiled a little, wondering whether to tease her a little more about it. “Do you... sit often in the music room?”

He looked down at the horned girl. She was rather short, and it made it difficult to judge her age. “My name is Félix. I'm a new college student.” Félix expected without asking for Leticia to introduce herself in the same manner. It was simply etiquette.

Letty was rather interested to learn more about this singing issue. His voice didn't sound like it could cause problems. In fact, the little bit she heard sounded like it could almost fix all of your problems. As this stranger continued to try to explain himself, his face appeared to flush. Perhaps he was one of those people who were oddly humble about their own talents? He had rejected her earlier compliment, after all. Her chin raised in defiance when her own weak explanation was questioned. She wanted to headbutt him very badly for poking fun at her tangled story. "I... I sit in here often enough! I don't like listening to people play, though. Most of the students are awful. My ears are too sensitive for that. " Thankfully, the practice rooms were sound proofed enough to where bad music could only be heard in a whisper, no matter how obnoxiously a piece was played.

Leticia was rather impressed by this stranger's name. She had heard many names in her short life, but she had never met a Félix. Realising that she had done nothing but stare since he introduced himself, Letty started before stumbling into an introduction too. "O-oh. Yes, I'm Leticia. College." Looking down at her small body, Letty raised her eyebrows as she glanced back up to Félix. "Surprisingly. "

Félix tried not to chuckle, but some urges were too difficult to keep contained. Whether it was because she tried to justify sitting in the music room or because she found most of them to be terribly musicians, he found her story peculiarly funny. “Then why of all places would you 'sit' in the music room?” He crossed his arms, partially to protect himself from the possible butt he might receive to his ribs, “Waiting for that rare rock star to come find you?”

He felt tremendously at ease. Maybe it was the environment, his own sort of chapel one way or another. Here he could be at his best, his most comfortable. It wasn't the place to sleep or the place to eat, but it was his place to live. On the seat by the keyboard, his fingers in unison with the complex symphony in his brain.

“I'm not that surprised,” Félix smiled warmly. She was small, sure, but Félix was small too when he first went to university in Canada. He was a fifteen-year old runt trying to avoid too many looks from his colleagues. Most of them were open-minded and polite, but it was hard to socialize with people nearly ten years older than you. Especially when you couldn't drink.

“So what do you study, Leticia? I suppose you can guess mine.” Amusingly enough, had he already studied music in his homeland, Félix would probably be saying 'Mathematics' right in this spot. In order to even out the height difference, Félix took the liberty to sit back on the bench. There, they could at least face eye to eye. And Leticia had the opportunity to butt him right on the nose if he said something stupid...

Letty squinted at Félix, trying to determine if he was still mocking her life choices. She wasn't quite waiting for a rare rock star, although that would be a wonderful surprise. "Ah yes, a rockstar to come and sweep me off my feet would be marvelous." Indeed, she didn't think she would mind terribly if an attractive musician came and took her away from school. Studying was far too boring, and she was quite sure that their music room would be much bigger and more comfortable.

"Cosmetology. Too many people require help with their faces. I'm guessing that you study music, then?" Not to say that too many people were ugly, but of course, those people didn't know how to bring out their own natural beauty. Each day, she saw someone who could look nicer with a new hairstyle, better wardrobe, and not a single day passed where she didn't see someone in dire need of a good shampooing.

As he sat, Letty fidgeted, not wanting to stand anymore either. She had a slight height advantage now, but she was too recently jolted from a good nap to feel any joy. Following suit, Leticia flopped down in a heap, taking a moment to rearrange her legs and arms, curling her knees into her chest. "Hey. Why did you say that your singing is problematic?"

A rock star would be marvellous, huh? Félix mused to himself for a moment, the small details he'd have to change to look like a rock star. Maybe if he was stuck in the 1980's, he could keep his hair long and flowing and take up a glam metal band. Maybe unbutton a few on his shirt, let his chest puff out...

On second thought, he'd rather stick with the more dignified look.

“That's right. It's my passion,” Félix dabbled on the piano's keys again. He didn't play much in the way of a proper song. It sounded more like he was trying out new kinds of four-part melodies.

Cosmetology was something Félix would never have considered for Leticia. Not anything to do with her personally, but the idea of studying it was so far from his mind that Félix would easily have passed it over in his head. He could guess something like 'Anthropology' or maybe 'Biochemistry', but 'cosmetology' was not on his short list.

“What do you learn in cosmetology? I'm curious,” Félix was quite honest. Maybe studying it for himself did not interest him, but he was never one to pass up sating his absence of knowledge. He could gather it had to do with cosmetics, but to what extent and how were simply outside of his grasp. Maybe one of his siblings knew. He could imagine his brother being obsessed with appearances down to the science of it.

Félix's mood took a sudden turn when Leticia brought up his singing again. He frowned, and his red eyes turned away from her amber eyes for a long moment. It was a long period of silence, outside of his constant dabbling on the piano, before he cracked open with an answer.

“Because it causes problems. It's my power,” he omitted the rest of the nastier stuff he could apparently do, “I'd rather not say any more. It's dangerous.” His fingers slowed down, and Leticia would hear a sigh from him before he turned his glance back at her. Félix appeared saddened.
