Witch...craft? Crystal titled her head at Eph in confusion. Crystal didn't believe in magic, no sir-ee. She was the science geek from a science lab who just found an interest in magic, but she never really believed in them; it was all fantasy. All she did was listen to Eph ramble about her family background for a while. "Noo... witches aren't real... right?" was the thought that ran in her head as Eph did a little trick with her hat. And then came the part that Crystal sort of understood a little more.
"Ice is just a physical form of water - a rearrangement of its structure with nothing but stored kinetic energy. Essentially, just water frozen still, its particles solid, unmoving. Heat is just a side effect of this movement, and so is temperature. As is state - every solid is only solid because it does not have enough motion within to become liquid or gas. That's where my power comes in."
She understood now how she made the icy bits but... stopping time?
"Whoa, hold up; You mean to tell me, you don't actually have... "ice powers" more like... you're a..." a thoughtful pause, "A time-stopper?" There was hesitation in Crystal's voice as she said that. That didn't make sense. Then again, if the speedsters she knew could alter their speeds, maybe Eph's magic made some sense.
"It would be so much better of a power if I could do the reverse as well, but as it is... nah."
"Wait so stopping time for the squirrel... Assuming he's aware of the things happening, wouldn't that mean he sees things in fast forward right now...?" Assuming it was anything like having the speed force. Maybe she'd get a yes. And then she remembered Eph just froze her for two weeks. She gasped, holding her face in faux horror, "I'm two weeks out of sync!" she breathed before breaking into a fit of giggles.
Crystal looked at her food for a second, seeing some steam brew out of the lamb chops. She held her hand over it and after feeling the slight warmth, she tried to make some ice out of it. But since it wasn't that warm, all she managed was a handful of snow. "Yeah, I wish I could do the reverse for mine too but all I have is a one way trip to a winter wonderland," she said, turning the soft ice into a snowball and throwing it at Eph's face.
