"Yeah, it is," she said quietly, pulling down on her sleeves until they covered her cold hands. Rosalee breathed out with relief that he didn't take it the wrong way. She could finally feel herself relaxing from the whole afternoon. "Plans...I dunno. Maybe. I was thinking I could get some gelato, read a book, sit on a swing set and listen to music..."

"I mean, I don't really have a date or anything, so I'm just doing all that for myself. I've always kind of celebrated Valentine's alone--except for when I was with my family, I guess, because we'd cook up a whole bunch of treats and go hog riding on our massive pigs," she said, babbling on and making various hand gestures to go along with it.

"But, yeah. I moved here on my own." After a few moments, she glanced up and asked, "Do you live on your own, too? Or do you have family here?"

Her plans seemed nice. Just some alone time, something Ater could get behind. A few things he looked forward to were the follow-up events where he could score some free food. His hunger wasn't uncontrollable, but he also kept taking advantage of free food. "Massive pigs? Your family owns a farm then?" he'd ask, glancing towards her. He had been in a shrine that overlooked a farm before, but he never saw anyone riding pigs. Though... he'd have to expect not a lot of people would go ahead and do that unless the pigs were scrubbed down and washed regularly or with bleach. Those things could stink pretty badly. "Yeah, I moved here alone when I started high school. Was sort of hoping someone came with me, but she bailed because her father got sick a week before we were set to leave. Anyway, I moved here to see what I could do outside of taking care of shrines. Didn't want to do one thing for however long I've lived."

Rosalee was planning to avoid all the Valentine's Day events like they were the plague. She wouldn't be caught dead at some mixer with bracelets on her wrists--or on some weird cruise with a bunch of strangers. She wasn't going to beg for love--that was just embarrassing. It made her want to cringe just thinking about it.

She perked up, and a certain light entered her eyes. "Oh, yes! We do. My parents do. They bought it just before I was born so they could raise me and my siblings there. We're not like, millionaires, obviously, but we're able to sustain ourselves pretty well. We grow our own food, harvest our own eggs, milk our own milk--don't squeeze Bessie's teats too hard, though, she'll kick--wait. Sorry, sometimes I forget I moved," she said with a nervous laugh.

Rosalee quietly listened to the telling of his move as she breathed into her hands. She didn't think to bring mittens before, but she was kind of wishing she had now. "You took care of shrines? That...actually sounds kind of cool. What was it like?"

((OMG I'm so sorry! This thread got buried under my watched thread list!))

Ater could see it in the way she spoke about her memories of the farm she lived in that she definitely enjoyed her time there. It would be practical to think that she was a busy-body that woke up at the crack of dawn and got every chore done. That much couldn't be said for Ater himself. Sure he worked and got chores done, but he would catch a nap whenever he could. "That sounds amazing. And is it just your family doing all that? Wow, I couldn't imagine doing all that." He was perfectly happy now with the arrangement in the village. Some people were in charge of farming, raising cattle, fishing, building... Just imaging having to do all that made him want to groan as his lazy bones shuddered at the thought of such work. "Yeah, I took care of shrines. It's what my clan does. Our services were limited to a few shrines, but over time we just took care of all types, no matter the deity or saint its for. It can be fickle work, having to make sure you don't do anything to break the shrine, or do something to offend the deity... but that's usually only for the temperamental ones, most shrines are taken care of the same way. Sometimes we even get to stay and act as guardians. Remote temples are one of the best places to work in. Not too noisy, and you can just waltz around with the monks, priests and priestesses and not worry about getting chased by pitch forks."
