He stopped short of completely entering the forest and turned to Trini.
"If we hunt it down we can scare it again. Scaring it will have it running for a safe place, and that safe place is probably going to be its den. We can find more clues there or maybe even find the lab somehow. As for its survival, I believe it possible. Tales told of a bear surviving worse isn't unheard of, and if it has nanites it might be able to heal itself. We're pretty much going on conjecture here." He elaborated. His focus on the task at hand made it easier for him to ignore the pang of... whatever it was he felt at having been called a stranger even though the word was technically true. Then there was the last question/declarative statement:
"I'm all for stomping through the forest with you, stranger, but what're we up against? It'd be a nice thing to know."
"Your guess is as good as mine. Technocracy conventions, SF0 agents, Pentex, government cyborg testing facility, orrrr little green men at this point, I'm actually not sure." He responded, the last part of the statement being a way to lighten the mood a bit.

He was hoping it wasn't any of the first three. Little green men would be nice, but with the school being what it was it could just be a students testing out his powers or "training". He wouldn't be able to confirm anything until they got some more pieces of the puzzle.
"Do you know how to use human tracking methods?" He finally asked.

When he didn't give her the straight forward responses she was hoping for, she felt a pout coming on and it wasn't an ordinary pout either. It was more of a "I'm-in-the-forest-half-naked-with-an-attractive-stranger-looking-for-a-dying-or-dead-mechanical-bear-and-I-don't-want-to-be" sort of pout and those were rare for her. Pushing back the urge to cross her arms over her chest and flop down on the ground in protest, she allowed her hand to release his sleeve as she stood beside him with her mouth agape, almost as if she were having a hard time breathing when in reality she was perfectly alright.

"W-well...alright," she huffed slightly and closed her mouth on a tight line, staring up at Zachary with a mixture of annoyance and amusement. His mention of the little green men made her stomach all fluttery and had made her want to laugh. She didn't know why he had said such a weird thing, maybe to lighten the mood, but whatever it was for it was funny and completely necessary, "Tracking methods, right. Um, I'm not a hunter- as a human, I go to school, maybe think about majoring in Archaeology when I get into whatever college I'm thinking of getting into- but hunting...not so much. I have a heightened sense because of my shifting, but I'm assuming you're talking more power of observation, than power of smell?"

Stepping around him and standing in front of him, she put her hand on her hip and looked around. Taking note of the trampled underbrush as well as his comment about the beast fleeing to a den or the lab it was built in. She also hadn't thought that the poor mechanical thing could have been the result of another's ability, that just hadn't crossed her mind and if it was the case what did that mean for them? It was a misunderstanding at best, they attacked it to defend themselves, it was all they could do to keep it from chewing on their thighs and gouging out their innards.

"What're we waiting for? If the thing ran this way then so should we," she turned to face him, her hand still on her hip as she blew a small bubble with the gum he had given her before, it popped on her lips a moment later and her tongue darted out to wipe her oil free lips clean of the debris, "You're right about the den thing and if that's our only lead then we should investigate further, correcto?"

Uh oh she was taking charge now. He was inclined to let her, but that would mean that he would be focusing on the fact that he was in the woods with an attractive trench coat wearing female who had nothing on beneath said coat. A smile crossed his lips and momentary distraction darted into his mind about mentioning the unfair exchange of her having seen him naked and feeling one sided, but after what he had just said it somehow didn't seem like the time.
"Jesus whoring at bars is easier than actually spending time with someone. Who would have thought." He thought to himself.

Back to the hunting, yes that would be the safest thing obviously. He paid attention to the details of the forest, but besides general observational prudence he really was not an experiences tracker either. He started to open his mouth when she did first.
"What're we waiting for? If the thing ran this way then so should we," She had said with a hand on her hip blowing a bubble with the gum he had given her and it was probably the most attractive thing anyone had done ever. Wait. That wasn't logical was it? Despite the fact that it seemed completely innocent with no subtext and that her words were straight forward he couldn't help it.

"To be honest I'm not exactly a master tracker. I've seen it once or twice on the discovery channel, but I think your average boy scout has me beaten when it comes to the whole looking for stuff concept." He spoke as he removed his trench coat and tried not to think about exactly what was under hers.
"Also.. and I can't believe I'm passing up on many opportunities to see a beautiful bastet naked, this will change with you... or at least it should. There's a secret." He said with a smile as he handed her the jacket, blushing somewhat visibly and moving forward to view the terrain in the direction the bear had run off to.

Trini stared at him as he handed her his trench coat, unsure whether or not he was aware that she already had a coat on, she took it and draped it over her arm, holding onto it and allowing the tails of the coat to trail on the ground as she followed him. She saw the blush on his cheeks and couldn't help but smile at how embarrassed he was getting. Honestly, hadn't he just been standing naked in front of her without the slightest hint of shying away? And now here he was handing his coat to her in an attempt at keeping her from further exposing herself? It was weird to say the least.

"Something wrong with what I'm wearing?" she teased, offering him his coat back when she finally caught up with him, "Here...I think you need this more than I do. Also, don't be so hard on yourself...I think you know how to look for things when you really want to."

She smirked at him then, turning away to observe their surroundings as well as lifting her head slightly so that she could listen to the night sounds for anything suspicious. She ignored his comment about 'passing up opportunities' and decided instead to let him dream, it wasn't like she was constantly bending over to give him a quick peak or anything. The only time she could think that he would be able to get a good look at her bare body would had to have been when she pulled her coat off the first time to go after the threatening bear and maybe the time when she was vomiting in the grass, but who in their right mind would get a kick out of watching a half naked girl puke in the bushes? Her thoughts were interrupted by the sudden silence of the forest followed by the tell-tale grinding of what sounded like metal against metal.

"There...doesn't sound like it's getting very far," she moved forward, expecting him to follow close behind her but not looking back to make sure he was, "You really messed it up back there...it looked like it's nose was falling off- ugh, all the wires- that thing probably won't be able to scent us anymore, so our ally at this point is going to be steal."

Zachary took his coat back and put it on. If he had to shift again she might notice that the clothes changing with him, or not. Regardless her words uplifted him and he moved forward, at a point following her.
"You know you don't have to do this right?" He offered, breaking off from his thought at the sound of metal grinding against metal.
"You really messed it up back there...it looked like it's nose was falling off- ugh, all the wires- that thing probably won't be able to scent us anymore, so our ally at this point is going to be steal." At this point she was right but if there was any kind of surprise they were going to lose the advantage.

"If it had been an actual bear I might have been able to heal it enough that it could have recovered. Right now we have an issue." He said as they exited the forest canopy into a cave clearing.

The grass was low and barren in patches and oil slicked portions of the ground. This was corruption at its finest and he was furious.
"How dare they corrupt the forest. How dare they destroy the animals! How dare they encroach on Gaia's domain!" He roared, starting to loose control of his temper. He could feel frenzy coming on (rage 8/8). The natural world was his race's charge to protect. Here, there were obviously not enough of those protecting the forest and that had to be assuaged.

He started the slow transformation process involved in the loss of control indicative of a frenzy. His eyes flashed to a brilliant red not like his usual yellow or violet. Anger became him, it enthralled him, he had to destroy this abomination,
cleanse the area, destroy- wait he was with someone. He was.... what was he doing? He mustered all of his willpower and dropped to a knee as the he fought the frenzy off. When control was at last his he stood again, purposefully not looking at Trini, not wanting to look at the person who had just narrowly avoided seeing his fury... on anything that happened to be in the area. More embarrassingly, she had also been his reason for being bale to fight it off, an ability usually reserved for very close pack members or mates.
"Let's... keep going. I think I've got myself together." He said, still angry, but in control.

Trini had barely been listening to what Zachary was mumbling about behind her, but when she heard him saw something about healing the bear she stopped and faced him.

"Why would you want to heal it?" the idea of healing something that had tried to kill her didn't seem to click in her mind and felt unnecessary, "It tried to kill us-"

She stopped mid-sentence when they exited the forest and entered a clearing to what looked like a small cave entrance. Glancing around, she took in the scene before her and felt her stomach churning again along with another urge to dry heave; the smell of oil and blood was strongest here, which meant only that the bear was nearby. She took note of the barren look of the growth surrounding the cave and wondered for a moment whether or not the cause of such a landscape was the bear's doing or the result of whoever created the bear when her thoughts were interrupted by a nearby growling.

"How dare they encroach on Gaia's domain!"

Trini looked over to Zachary who seemed to be throwing a tantrum over the state of the clearing and had to keep herself from putting a hand on his shoulder to try to calm him down; there was a heat radiating from his body that made her want to turn tail and run back into the forest for cover, but she stood her ground, curious as to what exactly was happening to him. She watched him go down on his knee and pound the earth in frustration, thinking that he might be about to cry she looked away, wanting to give him a chance to retain whatever composure he had left by not watching his breakdown. It felt a little awkward. Was she supposed to be as upset as he was about the state of the forest clearing? Yeah, it was bad and it made her angry as to who would do such a thing...but he was taking it a little too far wasn't he? Shaking her head, she heard his voice break through the judgmental thoughts in her mind and she turned back to him, her eyes trained on the back of his head as he gathered himself.

"Alright..." she frowned a little and looked past him, trying to get a good view of the clearing, her voice dropped to a hushed tone and she stood beside Zachary and trained her eyes on the opening to the cave, "You think it's in there?"

He could tell she was changing the subject, no questions were asked and he didn't have any answers to give right then. Garou were Gaia's warriors, they were created to protect the earth from corruption. Thinking it out in words actually made them all sound like flightless captain planets now, but explaining it might come across just as silly. His connection to the spirits of the natural world as well as the unnatural made this whole situation an affront to everything he was born to do and just thinking about it kept his blood boiling, but he let those thoughts go and focused on what was going on right now. He doubted he would be seeing much of Trini after they left the forest and he wanted to get as much done with her as he could.

"You think it's in there? He heard her ask.
"Yes, but I think whatever created it could be there too. I can't say for certain but this doesn't seem like the kind of work a bear would do." He was thinking clearly now but that was mostly a front. His blood was still boiling over this and he wished more than anything there was a wolverine spirit to teach him how to hold that in until he needed it.

"I'm moving in. We need a plan though, something that will keep you from swallowing any more of their fluid."

The bear came limping weakly into the cave, moving toward the back and down a hole into the actual facility. Normally guard bots would have grabbed it but it was already one of those very machines and it had somehow been destroyed. None of the technicians were anticipating it so when the bear came tearing into the repair room most of them ran... most of them.

Robotics director Nicholas Menoslov shook his head at the state of the bear, annoyed at first but then perplexed. What could possibly have done this to a bear? Moreover what was in the forest that was strong enough to destroy the machinery? He shook the questions off as he dumped the nanite solution into the bear's wounds and watched as trillions of nano robots began knitting flesh, melding with machine parts and getting welded in by others, and resetting bones, reinforcing them with aerocarbon. Worldlessly he turned away and went back to his work, taking a Jaguar he had stolen from a zoo he began fitting it with nanite tubes, vibrational wing blades that would extend from its back and carve through targets, and muscle replacements that would make it capable of running at speeds it had never even dreamed of. In light of recent events, however, he decided to take one of the eyes and replace it with a camera, never could be too careful or informed these days.

Trini kept her eyes focused on the small cavern that seemed to lead deeper than she first perceived, all the while, she kept her ears trained on what Zachary was saying. Agreeing with him that whatever had caused this sort of destruction couldn't have been just one bear; it looked like the damage had occurred over a long period of time rather than the short moment since they last saw the injured bear, so it couldn't have been completely its fault. When he went on to mention that he was going in for the kill, she nodded and went to move forward with him, all brave and bold, until he suggested they come up with a plan that would keep her from ingesting anymore disgusting fluids.

"Oh," she practically deflated, her shoulders drooping and her arms flopping to her sides as she stopped and looked back up to a serious faced Zachary, "Do you think it went home to its mama bear or something?"

Her hands motioned pointlessly to the cave, "We don't have a lot of options...I mean, I can not shift, but I'm pretty useless as I am now- not exactly a heavy weight boxing champion over here."

She turned back to the cave entrance and eyed it again, trying to catch any glimpse of movement or any clue as to where the creature was that she might have missed before. Nothing. There was nothing that she could see or smell that she hadn't already experienced before.

"Did you have anything in mind- because I feel like we can just pop in and finish what we started. It looked pretty banged up when it hobbled off, I'm surprised it got this far," she was at a loss, all set to just abandon their mission, go back to the school, and bring a facility member along the next morning to take care of it when she heard it. It was the faintest of sounds and was more of an echo than anything, but she figured it was something, "Did you hear that?"

Trini tugged on Zachary's coat sleeve again and pitter-pattered her bare feet over to the cave entrance, leaning against the outside overhang and peeking around into its dank innards. Glaring into the darkness, she saw that the cave did in fact go deeper, much deeper and somewhere near the rear of the cave she saw the faintest glimmer of light and could hear the echo of the sound from before. It was at this point that she turned back to Zachary and pointed into the cave, mouthing wordlessly:

'Deeper, it goes deeper!'

She motioned him closer with a wave of her arm and continued to stare into the cave, waiting for her current partner in crime to join her.

He liked her pack mentality and when she mentioned her lack of ability to fight without shifting he thought maybe there he could find a way to spend time with her when and if they got out of this alive. He had done a number on it, but he remembered his sparring matches with Damien, damage done wasn't always the important part.

When she started mouthing the words "it goes deeper" his first thought was 'that's what she said' but then decided this wasn't the time for childish humor, it was always time for adult humor, but not childish. Nevertheless he moved closer, edging more slowly than Trini had and taking in the surroundings. It was good to travel with a pack again and he slid his hand down to his side reaching into the pocket on the right leg of his pants and considered pulling out a cigarette then decided against it.

When he finally got to the mouth of the cave he could see inside well enough to make out the movements of light coming from the cave. Once he got close to Trini he started to back up slowly.
"Trini-san, back up... slowly." He suggested urgently as a hulking figure, familiar yet different came out slowly walking out of the cave. It looked like the bear they had fought before, only the jaw was fine and the rest of it that had been broken and damaged looked stronger than ever. What was more were the plates covering its underarms, skull, jaws.
"Um.. got a plan yet?" He asked as he stood ground just a little bit from where Trini had motioned him to.

————-

Dr. Menoslov finished his work with the Jaguar and started the heart with an electric shock from a defibrillator. Machine parts whirred at first before the creature stood up marching as if under a prime directive.
"Follow the bear. I want to know what is hurting it." The doctor ordered, pointing toward the exit of the den.

As the creature left, he turned on the monitor connected to it's eye and watched as it ran... ran to the exit of the den and saw the bear stalking towards two hapless victims. On this island, kids were often oddities. Regardless they would make a good first test for his newest test subjects. His mind thought back to his boss back in New York and the countless other creatures in the basement he was holding onto for a rainy day.
"Attack." He ordered the Jaguar.

—————-

The two stood out of the cave with the bear approaching as a large Jaguar stalked up beside the bear letting out a mighty blood curdling roar. The situation had just gotten deadly, and Zachary started to worry more about what they were going to do.

Trini saw it before she heard him warn her to take a step back. She felt the hair on the back of her neck stand up as she heard the whining grind of movement coming from within the darkness of the cave and knew what they had found.

"Oh..." she groaned softly as she straightened and began to back away from the cave entrance, the hulking mass of mechanical bear that she vaguely recognized from before emerging from the darkness of the cave, "I knew I shouldn't have gone out tonight..."

She hadn't been paying attention to what Zachary was doing and ran into him when he stopped, her back meeting his chest as she bumped him and her body jerked in panic. She had almost forgotten that he was behind her and half thought she had been surrounded without her knowing, when she heard the deep tone of his voice and the urgency behind it her senses came back to her and she began looking around as a means to get them out of the situation. Her first thought was to run. Plain and simple, she knew they wouldn't be able to take the thing down or at least that she wouldn't be able to do it on her own. Seeing that she was the closest body to the predator, she figured it should be her to lead the charge and in any case she would, but the thing was mostly machine. She didn't know how to deal with machines, she could barely set the correct timezone on the computer her father had given her, let alone figure out how the mecha-bear was wired.

"Yeah..." she whispered harshly, swallowing dry air and licking her lips. She was going to suggest that they flank the thing and bring it down long enough for them to escape, but when she saw another figure skulk out from the shadows the previous plan was immediately nullified and her words failed her. Trini felt her back pressing into Zachary as she tried to push him further backwards into the undergrowth that they had just emerged from. Moments ago, she had been excited to be out in the woods, in the middle of the night, with an attractive stranger, but now she was down right scared; excitement had turned to fear as she stared down the new creature before them.

A jaguar, she knew it as soon as it stepped out from the shadow of the bear and yet, whatever the thing was growling before her felt unfamiliar with it's singularly abnormal red eye and it's strange metallic attachments that reminded her of wings. Completely dumb struck, she watched the beast hiss and spit at them, it's body shuddering with raw energy as blood and, what she assumed was oil, seeped from the fresh wounds on it's body. What was a jaguar doing on an island so far from it's natural habitat?

"What..." she breathed, still trying to back Zachary into the woods, "What happened to you...?"

Her brows furrowed in pity and confusion as she watched the mechanical creature circle to the bear's left and try to keep them cornered, it's movements jerky and strange to her. She saw the red eye narrow and the pupil dilate oddly, all thoughts that the feline was anything but an altered husk leaving her mind as she observed it's movements, a whirring sound interrupted it's steady growling as it exhaled what looked like smoke.

"Zachary," her voice caught in her throat, as dry as it was, forcing her to clear it before she was able to speak again, "We need to get out of here...this isn't right."
