Mood swings really aren't fun.

"Of course, silly!"

He threw his arms up into the air triumphantly. "YAY!!" he exclaimed. "What part of the world do I get?" He grinned, still kidding around, but waiting for her answer anyway.

"Never been in one."

Sabriel's jaw dropped. "Really?!" he said. Alright, with her past, maybe it wasn't all that surprising, but oh, well. "We're gonna have to have a snowball fight. Oh, yes. And you're goin' down when we do." He stuck his tongue out slightly, laughing.

".... Someday I'll get amnesia and I'll forget everything that happened to me. That's my goal in life."

"That's a good goal," he said, then pouted slightly. "But you'd forget me, too!"

"I'd say America, Austrailia, and all the European countries...."

"WOOT!" Sabriel said. "Europe! I don't know why, but I've always loved Europe... it's got some cool languages, yup, yup." He laughed at himself. One day, if he didn't lose the rest of what little sanity he had left, he wanted to go to Europe. And, when he did, he was definitely going to take over that continent.

"Oh, you'll se young one."

An eyebrow raised slightly. "Oh, will I, now? I'm shaking in my boots." He smirked. Even if he was against violence and never used it, he was a pretty good snowball fighter. It was really the only time he could hurt his brother without feeling guilty.

"And I don't believe in long-distance-making-out..."

At this, the child's eyes went completely wide. "W-What?!" he asked, his face going scarlet. He looked down, shifting around slightly where he was sitting. "That was never my intent! I was just joking..."

Not like he really would have complained about kissing her. He was beginning to like her, after all. Plus, he was a boy.

"I was just thinking about that...I would never want to forget you. You're such an awesome guy..."

At this, Sabriel smiled softly, glad that she thought that. Even so, Ella hadn't seen him at his worst yet. When she looked away, he rested a hand on her shoulder and smiled again. "Heh, thanks. You're an awesome girl, too," he said. "And you know what? Even if you don't forget your past, you're gonna have enough happy memories some day soon that you'll probably forget about it all on your own."

"Europeans are racist though!"

The boy gasped as well, then blinked. "They are?" Hah. That showed how much he knew. He really did need to start paying attention in class more often, and actually reading some books might help, too.

"You better be..."

Sabriel laughed. "Ha, we'll see." He took a proud, almost super hero like pose. "I'm the snowball master, after all!"

"... You know you would like it anyways.."

"GYAH, NEVER!" the young male exclaimed in disgust. After a moment though, he smirked. "Ok, well, maybe just a little bit." He laughed softly at himself, not finding any use in pretending he wouldn't. He was a kid, though, so he didn't plan on kissing anyone anytime soon.

".... It's hard to forget things that really effect your life, you know...."

"OOH, trust me, I know," Sabriel said with a nod. He was sure that she knew something had happened to his parents, but she didn't know exactly what. The boy swallowed as that gory image that had been etched into his memories came back for a moment. "Yeah. I know." He sighed and paused for a moment. "It's a shame these kinds of things happen."

Trying to change the subject, the boy removed his hand from her shoulder and poked the ice cream again. "Yay! It's not hard anymore!" With that, he scooped up some ice cream into his spoon and ate it.

"Yeah...haven't you ever heard of slavery?"

The boy raised an eyebrow, then nodded when realization hit him. "Oh, yeah..." he said, scratching the back of his head out of embarrassment. He really needed to start learning. "But I thought that ended... didn't it?"

"But someday I'll be the worlds master, mind you!"

"Ah, but don't forget, I'll be ruling the world with you, so technically you won't rule the whole world," he said, smirking slightly, believing he had won that argument.

"Boys. Always going around kissin' girls. Not even thinking about their feelings."

He rolled his eyes. "Girls. Always thinking that every guy is the same," he said, shaking his head. He knew for a fact that he thought about the feelings of others, as did his brother. Neither of them ever wanted to hurt the people they loved, and when they did, it wasn't intentionally.

"There we go!"

"Yay, you did it!!" he said. "High five!" He put his spoon in the ice cream and held up his hand, knowing he looked like a complete dork, but not really caring.

".... I'm not quite so sure anymore...thanks to you!"

He smirked and stood, bowing with a flourish. "Glad to have been of service," he said, sitting back down and letting his tail hang off the edge of the cough. The tip of it flicked back and forth slightly and he laughed at himself. It was wonderful being with her.

"Okay, fine. You win."

"Yay, I win!" he said, smiling proudly. "Hee hee."

"All the guys I've known were the same. At least in the past. You know, you're really differant from all they guys I've known. You're more...likeable."

He smiled. "I'm glad you think that," he said. "But you haven't seen my bad side yet." He would have added that hopefully she never would, but that would be impossible. Sabriel's mood swings came at random times, and to say that she would never see him angry or the like would just be a lie.

As her hand hit his, the thirteen year old male laughed. He was glad that she hadn't left him hanging. He was about to start eating again when he noticed that she looked a bit afraid. Of what he didn't know yet, but he wanted to in case something wasn't right. "You alright?" he asked softly, a concerned look on his face.

Sabriel was shocked at all that she was saying. The boy swallowed, and his eyes welled up slightly with tears. No one outside of his family had been this kind to him in a really, really long time. He usually got made fun of, if not ignored completely.

"... I care about you for the way you are, mood swings or not."

He couldn't help himself. The boy threw his arms around her, just a few little tears of absolute joy falling from his eyes. "Thank you..." he said softly. Not even his own brother was understanding enough to stop forcing pills down his throat, and here Ella was.

"I...hope so..."

He stopped hugging her, but kept one protective arm around her. The child looked around the room, but didn't see anyone too suspicious... yet, at least. He turned back to Ella. "Don't worry. You don't have to be afraid. I won't let anyone or anything hurt you." He offered her a reassuring smile. He didn't believe in violence and didn't know how to use any sort of weapon, but he could protect her nonetheless. Powers could come in handy sometimes.

"And I really meant it too..."

He sniffed. "You're gonna make me cry more," he said, wiping his eyes. Sabriel was one emotional kid, and probably had enough personality for the entire school, but he didn't care. The boy wiped his eyes and smiled. "You're so nice, you're a wonderful person. Don't ever change, Ella."

"Well I know that..."

Sabriel smiled, glad that she knew that. "Good," he said. "They won't get near you. I won't allow it." Again, he looked around, then back to her. "If you want, or if it would make you more comfortable, we could leave this place for a while."

"Thankyou."

Once he saw tears falling from her eyes, he almost laughed, but instead, just smiled. "Ha, now we're gonna have a cry fest..." he said. "Hooray, tears." He was obviously being sarcastic with that last comment. Sabriel laughed softly, and kind of sadly, at himself. He couldn't really remember the last time he had been so happy with someone, and while it was good that he was acting like this, it was kind of sad for him, too.

"Ah it's okay. We're having fun."

"If you're sure," Sabriel said. He didn't like seeing her that scared, and would have gladly left with her if she wanted to. Since she wanted to stay here, though, he would just have to keep on guard. He took a few more bites from his ice cream container, trying to think of something new to talk about.

"So, uh, how are you liking your ice cream?" He really needed to work on his social skills. He really, really did.
