It was kind of late for a stroll through the park, but Kenrick wanted to get a general feel for the island and this seemed like a good place to start. Not too many people seemed to be out, but there were a few still lingering about. Ken strolled down a trail at a leisurely pace, adjusting his jacket as he went. Generally speaking the mana flow on the entire island was very strong, something that could be credited to the high amount of supernatural beings that inhabited the relatively small area. He'd explore the town tomorrow before heading into the woods he'd heard so many interesting things about.

His eyes scanned around, something seemed rather...off. Even at this time of night he'd expect to detect some amount of activity from other people nearby but there was nothing. It was like he'd walked into a trap. Or maybe not, he didn't feel any malice directed at him. With the exception of a pouch full of flash bang grenades, he was unarmed. He could probably get himself out of any situations that could occur.

Of course, the scene he'd find himself walking into wouldn't be quite what he was expecting.

It was on this night that Xia would find herself within a bind. Having left the comfortable confines of her home, she ran off into the night for a stroll. It would be before her meeting with a certain crime lord. She had no defenses and thus was extremely vulnerable. A delicate woman should not be out by herself at night, her parents would say. Unlike her older sister Zhen, she didn't have the martial prowess to fight threats should she be unable to flee. In this case, she did not get lucky. In fact, she was far from lucky.

The small Chinese woman was on the verge of a panic attack as a half-giant roughly held her arms. A werewolf eyed his prize with lust as he stood there in hybrid form. His long, sharp claws lightly traced her body. Just from glancing once at his eyes, she figured out that he was mentally undressing her. This sick bastard probably pictured her form in a nastier light; the aftermath of what he would do to her. Despite being terrified out of her wits, she refused to cry and instead glared at the thug as her breathing worsen. She recalled her kidnapping, and this situation was triggering a terrible flashback.

The princess fought to keep herself conscious as she felt her mind slip away. No, she had to stay awake. She had to resist somehow! However, it was no use; she felt her body suffer paralysis. This was the body's natural reaction to fear. Those trained or wired otherwise could immediately combat the threats before them. She was not within that category. Now her whole body went numb, but she could still feel the werewolf's touch. He took a moment to smirk and grope her crotch. He already won; why should he worry?

"We'll give ya a good time, Princess."

"No...please.....please....."

She slipped into Chinese for the last "please". She'd tremble if she could move. They were in a less illuminated part of the park and nearby several trees. Only those who went to this area and went slightly off the path could find them. Being that it was extremely late, the duo doubted that anyone would come even if she screamed. Her coat was opened, and one slash of the wolf's claws ripped her long skirt. Now the dress had to be repaired, but that was the least of her worries. Xia found herself ready to submit to them. What was the use? She would no longer be a maiden.

She began to lose consciousness after remembering a certain brutal event that occurred in the recent past.

He rounded a corner, now keen to the disturbance and realizing someone was in some legitimate trouble. And what did he find? The classic assholes and a damsel scene. There was a brief second where he stood and simply waited for them to notice him as he sized up his opponents. A big guy, most likely some kind of giant and a werewolf. The mage dragon would have his work cut out for him, he was really missing his sword. Of course he still had his spells and his flash bangs.

"Well this is an awkward scene," he called to get their attention. Which seemed to divert their attention from the girl long enough for the dog to demand to know who he was. The giant on the other hand, decided it was smarter to simply engage the smirking redhead.

The initial brutish swipe from the giant was easily avoided, but was followed up by a more agile flurry of clawed swipes and jabs from the werewolf. They weren't a bad team in all honesty. "Such a shame you guys can't put this coordination to use like getting girls in a healthy manner. Like being wingmen for each other," he taunted.

There was a smile from the dragon as the werewolf snarled.
The giant simply lunged at the intruder.

And then came a kick to the crotch.
The giant man was doubled over as Kenrick moved fluidly, punching the werewolf in his fanged face. From here on out their personal humiliation would begin. As Kenrick unloaded a flurry of punches and kicks on the giant before he could recover. He was not dealing with his nonsense. He then moved back to the wolf man, the two seemed to go back and forth on relatively equal terms. That is until Kenrick tossed out a flash bang, blinding him then kicking the man in the crotch several times. "Alright kids, take off your clothes," he said after he'd managed to beat the werewolf down. The giant protested the demands only to be silenced with a pair of flash bang bombs being stuck up his nose and set off. Now he was out cold leaving only the werewolf who seemed to have understood the message. Kenrick wasn't playing around. He sparked a bit, his irritation was showing as he moved towards the girl now. The werewolf seemed to be in the middle of stripping down.

"What the hell is wrong with you? There's a woman here! Take your ugly friend and go," he growled at the lycan who was now in his underwear. He struggled to collect the unconscious giant and run off.

"Now what do I do about this?" his eyes now focused on the girl he'd just rescued.

Xia vaguely heard the voice of someone as she passed out. It didn't match the voice of the giant or the werewolf. Was someone coming to her rescue? She didn't recognize it. Was it a cop or another friend of the thugs? Since she was at the point of black out, she couldn't see what going on. She felt her body slip out of the giant's hands. She landed on the grass with a thump and didn't move as the thugs focused on the newcomer. She couldn't make out much of what was going on, and she went into a dream-like trance.

Her ears dulled out the commotion as she floated in pitch darkness. It was more relieving and comforting than the terrible memories which haunted her brain. Still her body felt numb as her coat soaked up the snow on the ground. The princess had signs of having been roughed up by the thugs, but thankfully her undergarments were left untouched. Her ripped qipao took on the form of a makeshift mini dress that barely covered her silk panties. Naturally the skirt rolled up a bit as she laid there. Closer examination would reveal a scar on the inner thigh, but it was clearly not a scar from the thugs. It seemed to be from another time and done with a sharp object or tool.

She stirred just as the thugs fled. The princess's vision was heavily blurred. She was just waking up from fainting. Her breathing eased up as she realized she was no longer in danger. The cold tickled her exposed legs. The numbness began to ease up. She quietly shivered against the snow. She was not terribly hurt, so she could probably stand. However, she chose not to get up right away. She needed time to recover and ease herself back into reality. The event that just occurred moments ago spooked her greatly. She could vaguely spot someone still standing there. It was the same third voice from before. The person must have saved her.

"Thank you..."

Her vision steadily cleared. It was a young man with red hair. She smelled a trace of dragon on him. Was he a dragon then? A groan escaped her lips as she shifted onto her side. She sneezed once then coughed.

"Who are you?"

Xia's sleepy mind hadn't processed the fact that she was still speaking in Chinese yet. She had no idea wherever or not the man could understand her. She coughed several more times. She should probably get up.

Well the girl was conscious and speaking Chinese now, probably her first language based on that fact. How lame, she went and passed out and missed his frankly amazing(mediocre) rescue. She didn't seem hurt just kind of dazed and confused, poor thing. She did say thank you though, that was nice. He smiled and waved his hand dismissively, replying to her in Chinese, "Don't worry about it, name's Kenrick."

He moved over to help her up out of the snow. He noted her scent now that he wasn't busy beating up thugs, she smelled like dragon. Not that that would have stopped him before, but it was nice to know that there were dragons other than his family on the island. Well, he'd already figured there were some on the island, he just wasn't expecting to happen upon one under attack in the woods like this. She didn't seem like much of a fighter. Still she could have maybe transformed and intimidated them away. Not the most favorable approach, but claws and fangs can get you pretty far in a confrontation. There was also the size factor and threatening roars. But that was in the past, it didn't matter. He had a feeling she may be royalty of some kind.

"You're not hurt anywhere are you?"

While transforming would have definitely helped her, she let her panic override her common sense. She got out of her daze as she was helped up. She held onto his arm and stood up straight. One glance down revealed the clothing damage to her. She chose to close her coat and hide the ruined qipao. She hoped that she would sneak back home without anyone spotting her; her family would have been enraged and demand to know who or what did this to her. There would also be a game of twenty questions, and she didn't really wish to deal with that.

His reply being in Chinese tipped her off on what language she was using. Whoops. She should practice her English more; this island was filled with English users. The princess was now fully awake and could see her savior in all of his beauty. He was quite attractive; he didn't have much bulk to him, but that made it more impressive that he was able to scare away a bunch of meatheads. She cracked a smile for him. Honestly, she felt sore but didn't want to worry the stranger any further. Sorry, not stranger. Kenrick.

"No. Do not worry."

A part of her felt bad leaning on this heroic stranger like this. She let go of him and glanced up into his eyes. She was much shorter than him, but that wasn't surprising. He wasn't a monster in height, but he definitely had several good inches on her. The princess gently dusted the snow off of her coat. Still the cold gave her a chill. Her hands brushed off her long hair and adjusted the twin buns on either side. It would have helped to utilize a mirror, but there's not much she could do. They were in a park, not a boutique.

"My name is Xia. It is nice to meet you."

"It's nice to meet you as well, Xia."

She seemed to be alright for the most part, roughed up but alright. She managed a smile though, she seemed like a trooper. She was kind of cute too. Her responses definitely had the mark of high society to them and her outfit looked expensive. He couldn't just write it off as her simply being polite. He was becoming rather curious about the young lady he just saved. Perhaps a reintroduction would be more appropriate. But he'd save that for a little later.

"It's kinda dangerous wandering around at night like this you know," he didn't want to lecture, but it was a bit of a bad idea especially if one lacked the ability to defend themselves. His own family was a rather rowdy one when it came to fighting ability. Tight knit and valued strength in all its forms. But many of them were able to hold their own on some level. If not, they were learning. But it wasn't always good to check ones customs onto someone else. Not all family structures were the same.

"Sorry, I'm not trying to be rude or anything. You just seem kind of royal, so I'm just surprised someone in your status would be out alone like this."

Her family generally trained those worthy in the art of combat. If a person proved to be too weak to handle training, then they chose to make him or her a politician and diplomat. They would serve as the talkers while the others would serve as the fighters. They would learn the art of negotiation and work out deals that benefited the clan. Xia was sickly as a child, so she was shuffled onto the negotiation train. Because of this and her powers, she was highly valued and thus well guarded. She was always within a protective bubble. If she hadn't snuck out like she did, then this would have been the case right now.

The princess was unsure of Kenrick's status, but she was used to dragons being within the royal sector. Dragon hoarding habits went a long way when utilized productively. She doubted that he was a gem dragon though. That would've been way too coincidental. No, he had to be another type of dragon, but what? She couldn't quite tell, and she missed the fighting. Why did she have to have flashbacks right then and there? How problematic....she could have learned more about him that way. Ah well, he was friendly enough. She could get information out of him.

"I'm aware."

Something about the way she said that was harsher than necessary, but she still kept the gentle, polite princess facade. Her smile remained unmoving. It was somewhat eerie really. She wasn't angry; she just didn't want to address that. However, it was likely that she would....he proceeded to point out her regal air. So it was obvious, huh? There was no mistaking it; she had all of the trademarks of a princess. As much as she hated it sometimes. Her smile increased in size.

"Correct. You are rather observant, Kenrick."

She tried shaking off her mild feelings of shame.

"Zhujiang Xia. Or is it Xia Zhujiang? Sorry, I do not speak English often."

She traveled to Asian countries where English was taught, but the people she discussed terms with generally spoke in the native language for that region, be it Mandarin, Tagalog, or Korean. Now she would convert to English. That shouldn't be a problem, right? She was able to learn other languages pretty well.

"I went alone."

"Well English it would be Xia Zhujiang," he answered. He was familiar with several Asian languages along with several forms of Draconic and magic code. He could easily switch back to Mandarin if it made things easier for her. Zhujiang sounded familiar, he'd heard some stories or rather legends where that name had come up during his travels through China. His family's origins were rooted in Europe. Xia didn't seem overly fond of her inability to defend herself so he'd write that off as a sensitive topic.

"Well at any rate I suppose I should reintroduce myself. I'm Kenrick Drakenhardt, my family is royalty hailing from Europe. We um, manipulate various elements there's not one uniform specialty like some families have," he bowed slightly. He maintained a rather faint smile as he spoke with her. Perhaps this meeting would yield more benefits after all. He pushed any business related thoughts out of his mind for the moment. Now certainly wasn't the time for such things. "I think I recognize your family name from my travels through China."

He rubbed his chin. Maybe he'd said too much? No, she seemed respectable enough. Not to mention, they had no reason to be enemies.

While maybe now might not have been the time for business, Xia's diplomatic mindset kicked in when he mentioned the Drakenhardt clan. She didn't have much familiarity with them, but making links with new dragon families was always a good idea. Surely her clan would see the benefits in making deals with a European dragon clan. She was sure that they could offer something of interest; while she didn't doubt that they were rich enough as is, the gems and minerals that the Zhujiangs could make with ease served various functions. Perhaps they could make gems for magic channeling purposes or minerals to use for crafting objects.

"Ah, thank you. You are correct. The Zhujiang clan originates from China. We are mineral dragons descended from the Four Great Dragons whom brought water to the people many years ago."

This fact brought her great pride and informed her that she had to do her best in order to honor her family. Every member needed to do their part. In her case, her part included setting up negotiations and relations with other clans. She made a mental note to put in a possible inquiry. However, she wanted to get to know Kenrick and his family more first before she took any steps. It would be inappropriate to make a decision right now. She bowed gracefully before the redhead. The princess must show her respect after all.

"It is fancy meeting you here, Kenrick. I'm sorry we met on odd terms. You had to rescue me from some...thugs."

She nervously scratched her head but covered the motion by making it look like she was adjusting her bun. The woman forced the smile to remain on her face. She couldn't let it falter or give the impression that she was incredibly upset. It was her attempt to save face after falling into the trap of two idiots that wanted her body. Really her luck was terrible lately; multiple parties now successfully caught the pearl dragon. It made her desire to learn combat even more potent. She had to stop this vicious cycle of getting captured.

"And to think I already wish to request something of you right away. Please forgive me, but....do you think we could...."

She took a deep breath.

"...That I could learn to fight?"

Her confidence faltered just enough to make her switch to Chinese so that she could keep it at an even level. It wasn't like her to get to the point like this, but she felt such a sense of urgency that she had to ask. She could only take so many panic attacks and nervous breakdowns before enough was enough.
