Ken did find her smile a bit off putting, considering her ordeal. He wasn't expecting her to burst into tears and rush into his arms or anything, but maybe just a little less cheer. Then again maybe this was her strong face. Her clan's heritage spoke to that even more to him. She seemed to take pride in that heritage. She had some strong blood running through her veins. He was very much familiar with the story. And they were mineral dragons, and in comparison their history seemed more exciting. Perhaps it was just because he was so used to his own family stories.

"Well my family kind of came to power through financial smarts and then our grandfather, Xerxes outright conquered and went to war with various factions. We kind of expanded rather aggressively. But since then we've gone back to more peaceful methods. The old days of forcible conquest is over."

He wondered how she would take that bit of information. It was a major part of their history and their grandfather had since effectively retired to watch over his family's growth without taking a hold of the wheel. His cousin would probably be the better person to talk to in terms of any sort of alliances though since he was the boss here on the island.

His attention focused more on Xia as she mentioned a request. She seemed a bit embarrassed to spit it out. Then she finally asked him in Mandarin. He took a step back and sized her up. Then he laughed before responding to her in Mandarin.

"Sorry, you reminded me of how I was when I was a kid. I'm a lightning elemental with weak kinetic control over my powers. The most I can do is generate it close range and breathe it in my dragon form. And compared to other family members I'm kinda scrawny and short. So I learned how to channel my electricity through spell casting."

He smiled and looked away for a moment before actually answering her question in English, "You can learn to fight without a doubt. Most of my family could help you in that department. I guess this attack made you feel weak, but the way I see it you're strong and you just don't know it yet."

In reality, she was shattering on the rocks of turmoil as she put on her best smile. Her troubles were bogging her down, and she began to question her strength. That week-long imprisonment shook her to the core. It broke her spiritually and physically, and she was left to pick up the pieces. Even so, she didn't allow herself time to recover. The princess was too focused on appearances and doing her job despite everything that happened. Yet she could feel it weighing down on her subconscious, and she had no idea what to do with that pain. The idea of strength in China was fighting through adversity with a smile, not with complaints.

As a princess of the Zhujiang clan, she couldn't afford to lose face. Breaking down and running into his arms was unacceptable. Yet...somehow she wondered if she could take being bottled up like this. She listened to him tell the history of the Drakenhardts. The ancestors built a lot of wealth up. Then they became conquerors before choosing the peaceful route later. So this family was centered on change and difference. They went from simply being rich to conquerors to diplomats. All the while, they bred many varieties of dragons. She found their history interesting.

"We have had our share of conquest as well. Now we just strike deals. I'm the diplomat of the family."

She had to maintain good relations and try to please others while getting what her clan desired. She would not make him an offer yet. That would not do. She needed to consult the family first once she had a better understanding of them. Of course that facade got shaky when it came to the request she made. Now this was the point where nerves nearly overtook her. She gripped her two hands tightly around her back so she didn't fidget as she gazed into Kenny's eyes. Her smile twitched as he suddenly laughed. Why? Was she a fool? She fought to not let the smile fade from her face.

That was when he shared a little insight about his abilities. So he was a lightning mage in a sea of fighters that were likely beefier than him according to his words. She wondered if any of them were as big as her brother Shin. Shin was a mountain, and his punches broke down walls. Now if only he wasn't so scared of bugs. It was NOT fun having him annihilate rooms to kill them. She tilted her head curiously when Kenny glanced away. Why did he avert his glance? His next words were in English. He agreed to help her. He agreed! Her smile suddenly became much more genuine as she heard the news. The woman bowed graciously.

"Thank you. I appreciate your generosity. If only it was just that attack..."

Her voice dipped into a sad tone for a moment. She realized this and tried to force it back into the content tone she had before.

"I would love to meet your family."

The cover up might have been too late.

Ken raised an eyebrow at her first comment. Was this not the first time something like this happened? He wanted to ask but the way she quickly returned the focus back to him told hi it was probably better to let it go for the time being. Her smile was a bit more genuine since he'd said yes to her request. Thinking about his family's reaction to him requesting she have combat training. He had no doubt they'd oblige. Even if for whatever reason they refused, he'd find a way to help her himself.

"I'll warn you though, they can be kinda wild. My cousin's the clan head. At least here on the island. He's arguably our best fighter too he's one of those guys who's too stubborn to go down."

Given various schedules and the like, it would probably be a group effort. Also everyone had their own personal specialties so she'd more or less get the basics in various areas and be able to put together a style all her own. In the meantime, physical conditioning would probably come into play as well. She didn't look out of shape per say, just lacked a bit of muscle definition.

"You know this is probably going to be some really rigorous training, right?"
