Maisie Belle was sure she would've been scared out of her wits the moment she woke up in an unfamiliar place, but at this time of night she was too tired to give a darn for anything other than going to the bathroom and getting right back to the comfort of her nice, warm, soft bed. She caught a look at herself in the bathroom mirror and winced; the dark circles and tangled, messed up hair was not a good look to wake up to.

Once she combed her fingers through her hair and washed her face, she grabbed the brand new wooden baseball bat she'd brought with her, shut off the bathroom lights, opened the door, and stepped back into the little hall branching off her new dorm room. It was slightly warmer in the hallway than it had been in the bathroom, and she was grateful for that, especially when her pajamas didn't cover much.

Her bare feet padded along the floor as she yawned, and when she opened her eyes back up, she was bewildered. There was a pair of orange things just--floating in the air in front of her. Her tired brain quickly fired awake, and while she might've only been confused at first, she felt the terror set in and her heart squeeze with fright at the unfamiliar presence. In an instant, she gripped her bat with both hands and swung it full force at the floating ambers.

Ash switching back to day life after a year of nocturnal life style was going particularly well, but he was managing. Tonight he'd managed to sleep for a bit before waking up and going to the bathr, rising from his bed, yawning a little, his night vision letting him see around the room easily.

So he toward the bathroom noticing his roomate exiting it, but before he could say anything, he felt the impact of the bat. "........what are you doing?" it hurt but he wasn't human, and he stepped back but wasn't knocked down, stepping over to the light switch and flicked it on, his eyes going to his roommate.

"You actually got a bat?" there was a decent sized cut above his left eye now, but she'd be able to see that it was closing up, "why did you get a bat? And why did you hit me?" Just as he suspected, living with her was interesting .

The moment she heard her roommate's voice, she groaned and cursed and let her tense muscles relax. Maisie squinted when the lights came on, now loosely holding the bat at her side as she half-glared towards Ash.

"I thought someone broke into our dorm," she said with a sigh. She made her way over to her bed and propped the bat up against the wall before she somehow managed to accidentally knock his teeth in, too. "Warn a gal before you go sneaking up on her in the dead of night, will you? Wear a bell or something--heck, an entire collar will do."

Maisie went to open one of the drawers of her nightstand, but seeing as how the cut over Ash's eyebrow was already closing up, she shut it again and folded her arms. She mumbled and said, "Sorry for hitting you. You alright?"

"A collar? Sorry, I'm not into your weird fetishes," the vampire whipped blood from his eyes, the wound had already stopped bleeding. "The school has magic security, no one's gonna break in Daisy Dukes," he said teasingly, though he was annoyed by the accidental assault, "only danger here is you apparently."

The vampire looked at her, "if anyone does break in, I'd know." He sighs a little, and rubbed under the closing wound, his fast healing was one of the few things he liked about being a vampire, "yeah I'm ok, it'll heal." He never understood why a being that was considered undead would heal at all, "listen I know your jealous of my eyes....but attacking me won't get you them."

He looked her up and down, "so the 'just woke up' look isn't half bad apparently." The vampire was sleepy, exhausted really, the transition was odd.

Maisie could feel her fuse about to blow at his 'Daisy Duke' comment. "Real original, you jerk." She could feel a hundred and one retorts biting at her, but she had to remind herself that if she said something now, she'd just regret it later. Especially when she was tired and still trying to calm down after her heart almost died of fright. His comment about her being a danger only made her feel worse--guilty, really--but she'd already apologized, so it wasn't like she could do anything else.

Her expression was strange. She plonked herself down in her bed and yanked her blankets over her, turning so she was laying on the side facing away from Ash. "You're delusional. Go back to bed."

His people skills weren't what they used to be, he'd become something of low key cynical grump over the last year. The vampire sighed a little and took a seat on his bed, looking at her, he'd been an ass, over an accident. "I'm sorry," he finally said, "I'm sorry that I scared you, and I know you didn't mean to hit me."

The vampire tilted his head, his amber eyes looking over at her, "I know I'm an ass, so I'm sorry." He meant it, he did like her, and he did enjoy having her as a roommate despite the weirdness of things, so he didn't want to screw things over.

Looking over at the clock, he saw how late it was and scrubbed his face, he didn't think he'd be able to sleep anymore. "Look, I'm gonna head out for a bit, I'll be back later," maybe he'd grab something for her to make up for things, he'd rise and head to the door, flicking the light off as he did.

Maisie pushed her hair behind her ear as she lay there, listening to him. She started to calm down, taking a deep breath and slowly letting it out. "Thanks," she said quietly, and there was not a hint of aggression or sarcasm in her voice.

She shifted slightly to glance over at him as he headed towards the door. She wondered if he was still mad because of the baseball bat thing, and she bit her lip. "...Be careful out there." When the lights turned off, she slowly lowered her head back to the pillow and hoped he'd come back okay. Could vampires get concussions?

A couple questions about vampires rattled around in her head before she shook them away and squeezed her eyes shut. Maisie was way too tired for any of this.

Slipping on his shoes and a hoodie, he glanced back at her and nodded before slipping out into the night.

He'd be gone the rest of the night, wandering about, thinking about things, about how he can handle things better, be a better roommate to her. He put his hood on and slipped on some gloves as the sun started to rise, he was saving money to get a sun charm, but he could spare some to buy something for Maisie. Making his way back to the school, making a stop to pick something up, he reentered the building.

Slipping back into the dorm, he could hear her in the bathroom, "uh hey...I'm back." He set a bag on her bed, it was full of breakfast foods for her, he'd gotten them from a diner, still warm for her. He slipped his hoodie and gloves off and took a seat in his chair, sipping coffee, caffeine didn't affect him, but drinking it made him feel more normal, "the school serves food but uh...thought you'd like something.... and you won't need to go through the lines."

Maisie flicked the wing of her eyeliner and scooted back from the mirror to get a better look at herself. Perfect! She had made sure not to go over the top with makeup, but she was sure that she'd still get boys' heads turning wherever she went. Just as she started to pack up her makeup, she heard a muffled voice outside--Ash's, she presumed. She closed the makeup drawer (only recently designated so) and bounded out of the bathroom, donning a light-colored blouse and skinny jeans.

"Hey!" she called, heading over towards her night stand to take a sip of her almost-empty glass of water. Her gaze caught the bag on her bed, and she glanced over to Ash questioningly. "You really went and bought all this for me? Well, of course you did, but...wow. Thanks!" Maisie set the glass back down, and were Ash to be particularly sharp, he might've noticed that the glass didn't appear to be any emptier than it had been before she drank from it. She made her way over to open the bag and take a peek at what he got her.

"Back home, I heard all sorts of horror stories about cafeteria food. They were all talking about the cardboard pizza, the hairs in the macaroni salad, soggy fries, stale cookies, mediocre cinnamon buns...Cinnamon buns! Can you believe it? How could anyone possibly make a cinnamon bun mediocre? It's impossible--well, next to impossible, I guess. I can't believe the audacity of some schools."

"I'll have to pay you back sometime. How's waffles for breakfast sound? Do you even have a waffle iron in here? Maybe I'll make pancakes instead."

Ash watched her, he noticed her water but didn't say anything for now. "It's no problem," he said, rubbing under his eyes, he was falling behind on his sleep again, "they have good food there, so thought you'd like some." The vampire tilted his head and listened as she went on about what she'd heard about school lunches, he laughed a little and a small calm smile appeared on his usual neutral face, "my old school had pretty bad lunches, from what I can tell this school's are better."

He looked at her, a look of slight surprise appearing on his face as she offered to cook for him, "I....I uh don't need food, I mean..I can eat." Ash cleared his throat, "actually pancakes sound nice, I can't actually remember the last time I had a home cooked meal." Food didn't do anything for him, but it didn't do any harm either, and he liked the taste.

The vampire took a sip of his coffee, "so...water manipulation?" he asked motioning to her cup of water. "It didn't didn't go down when you drank from it," he didn't really have any powers beyond usual vampire stuff.
