He did have one confession to make though. Colten leaned in conspiratorially as he shared what he had been caught doing, "I admit though I have been caught making notes in the margins of some of our tomes. Corrections and important thoughts about the material mostly." That had been rather hard to explain sometimes. Now he knew not to mar the pages of very expansive unique books but many others in his library were annotated with the various thoughts and ruminations of one Colten Morey.
As they spoke Colten realized they had been kind of lingering in one area and he made a conscious but discrete effort to direct them through the room. Changing the scenery a little as they spoke. "Indeed the genre does give people pause sometimes but if the work is of excellent quality and the audience greatly enjoys it, why should I be ashamed or doubtful about writing it?" The response was well-practiced. It was a reasonably common question, though he was absolutely unashamed of his work.
"I'm very much a creative writer at heart so my current best-selling novels are fantasy. Of course because it is for young adults there is always an element of romance. I think the trickiest and also most rewarding part of writing for that audience is playing around with what they expect to read and shifting it ever so slightly so that it is unique while still being relatable," Colten explained and then actively stopped himself form continuing further for the moment. It was feeling a little bit like he was starting to give an academic lecture and this was not the appropriate venue for that sort of thing.
