Zachary smiled at her answer. It was as good as any, and was about what he had said when he had first been presented with the book.
"The book of red moon is the first book Garou are presented with when they are to learn about the history of the changing breeds and the world itself. We're unsure as to how many changing breeds there are exactly due to some wars that I'll cover some time. For now, this book tells about when Gaia was new, when she lived and when the spirit world and this one were one. The changing breeds were supreme and we kept humans much as they keep cattle today. When they grew too big in number we culled them so that they would be manageable. During this time all Garou were of one mind, but they fractured into tribes and the rest of the changing breeds eventually saw the folly in keeping human numbers low." It was a part of the history that he wasn't proud of. When he had first heard about this he had almost forsaken the Garou then and there.
"Such times were called the imperium. This lasted for over a thousand years, and to this day it is the reason why humans, most humans anyway, go into a state of shock when they see one of us transform into our war form. Naturally not all of the tribes agreed. The Red Talons, those born of wolf blood, cursed the day and swore we would regret it. Unfortunately we were right. Human expansion has pushed many species to the brink of extinction and today humans cull wolf numbers. Some call it karma, I call it pointless bloodshed. I digress, the tribes today are: The children of Gaia, the Fianna, the bonegnawers, the glasswalkers, the silent striders, the silver fangs, the get of fenris, the wendigo, the uktena, the shadow lords, the black furies, and there still exist the star gazers though they have left for the beast courts of asia which is where I am from." It was complex, there was so much information and it had taken months for him to learn all of it when he was taught.
" As we're focusing on me, I'll touch on the beast courts. There are two tribes of werewolves native to asia. The Hakken, the sister tribe to the shadow lords though we are nothing alike, and the star gazers. I am of the Hakken tribe. Beyond that the beast courts consist of the Khan-weretigers, the Samebito-weresharks, the Tengu- werecrows, the Zhong Lung-weredragons, the silent striders, the wererats who's japanese name i've forgotten... i think it was the Nezumi, and, most recently, the Kitsune. The Nagah, or weresnakes, exist there as well." He stopped, not wanting to overload her with information all on the first dat-.. meetin-, get together.

"Basically I'm saying we have a very rich and extensive culture. For you to learn everything about everything would take years literally. As for the humans going insane when they see us change, for some reason I'm an exception. The veil doesn't protect me like it does others of my kind. It makes it more dangerous when I change because other than the obvious intimidation factor, a human will not forget about seeing me. He will not rationalize me as a figment of his imagination, and he won't run in terror. It's unfortunate, but I've learned to cope." He said. There was more, but he wanted to gauge her reaction thus far.

Max was fixated on his lips forming words with such precision and the grammar was incredibly accurate. She bit the inside of her lip to sometimes make it look like she wasn't staring intently at the way he spoke or even his voice that was low and rough.

He mentioned wolves and the culling of them and she made an oath to herself that she would never mention the fact that she had to kill them to save herself but she let none of it go to waste. The pelt/fur was too keep her warm at night and in the depths of winter and the meat was used for food or other bait. At the time she felt she was accepted into the social status of being in the food web or chain; top predator. Only a vulture or another scavenger would eat her dead body, although it wouldn't be much a meal to go on... she was just skin and bone.

She listened carefully but as it goes Max wasn't the greatest at remembering names and she was getting a little confused but a very small amount was going over her head. Zachary was right, it would take her a long time for her to learn everything, but history was her forte and she would like to know the basics at the very least. It would give her some experience under her belt and it would impress people, that's what you wanted.Acceptance and Impression

He sighed as he thought back to what he had been saying. It was long and extensive, pups spent years learning, and philodoxes spent even long. That was right, he hadn't mentioned the cycles of the moon. His attention had deviated from the telling of his story to Max and the biting of her lip. It was adorable and his mind briefly flashed back to the kiss they had shared on christmas. It had been whimsical back then, but now he was starting to think maybe it might lead to something. He shook the thoughts from his head for the time being. He sincerely doubted she would want to kiss him again right now of all times given everything she had learned.
"There is more... there is much much more. I could lend you every book on my shelf, but the fact remains that we are just the tip of the iceberg. Never mind the apocalypses. The werewolves have one, vampires have one, wraiths, mages, changelings, and humans all have some end of the world scenario as foretold by the Gallia- the bards of the most well versed of clans. The vampires have a book that tells of their apocalypse, and frankly we are all pretty much doomed unless certain prophesies come true." It was bleak, but he spoke those words as matter of factly as he could. He hadn't touched on the weaver, the wyld, the wyrm, and the corruption that had spread. There were different interpretations of the prophesies and he still wasn't sure which was most likely to happen.
"We can come back to this later and I can even lend you some books. I'm going to show you the five forms of the garou. No matter what you see, I want you to remember it's just me. Wolves killed humans in the past, humans kill wolves and we have more than earned our mythical role as the bringers of death. Sometimes humans kill wolves for self defense, sometimes wolves kill humans for the same reason, but in the end we're going to end up having to work together. Now..." He shifted, growing about a foot taller, his body sprouting hair and short claws erupted from his finger tips. Fangs grew in his mouth and his face took on some canine qualities. His muscles grew until he was an animalistic, furry, bulky version of himself.

"This form is called Glabro. The next I will show you is called Crinos." He explained through a very gruff, guttural form of his voice.
"After Crinos is Hispo, our dire wolf form; Finally lupus, the wolf form. I won't be able to speak in the human tongues after this form though." He explained before holding his arms out to his sides.

He grew another meter until he was about nine feet tall, he scrunched against his ceiling. Glowing violet eyes peered from a feral snout. Huge, hulking arms, vicious fangs, a full body of fur, and a black mane across the back of his neck peered out at her. He stopped in this form, gauging how she would react to seeing him like this. He knew it wasn't good to overwhelm her, but he figured he might as well get it out of the way if she was going to be around him more... was that what she wanted? Had he perhaps misread her intentions? Those thoughts were far too late to do anything about at current. He had to get through this, any human that was to spend any real time around him would have to get used to it.

Max was unable to think momentarily and she felt all of a sudden small not in size comparison (but that as well) but in a metaphorical sense as she felt tiny and young. She compulsively brought her legs up to her cheeks and sunk her chin in between her knees and slowly blinked taking in the little details. She whispered to herself he's still Zacharyover and over again, in reassurance to the fact that he was now towering above her and she could do nothing about it except cower and mould into the leather furniture. She was adamant that she was not going to bring out her bow even if it was the only bit of self defense she had, but that wasn't a good impression on the first official meeting.

He didn't like the way she was reacting. He could hear her whispers, her heartbeat, see her body language, and smell the pheromone that humans gave off whenever they were afraid or shaken. For a moment he considered just stopping, but he wanted to get all the way through it. He shifted next into hispo form. A bear-sized wolf, muscled to the core and covered with fur. Finally he shifted to lupus, the wolf form. His body shrank and his fangs grew smaller, eyes shifted from violet to the black and yellow of a normal wolf, and his tail wagged in as adorable of a manner as he could manage. With all of those out of the way he finally shifted back to homid form, and stood before he once again as the man Max had met. Once he could finally talk again he slowly walked toward her.
"I know, it's a little scary at first. It doesn't have to be. Garou were chosen by Gaia as her warriors. We fight to protect her, and lately many of us fight to protect humans. I-" He stopped. He hadn't gotten any more of her reaction and he wanted to know if she was calm now, or at least if she wanted to leave.

Blood rushed to his head. He was more nervous now because she had seen more and he had revealed much. It was dangerous. Humans who found out about werewolves often became hunters, and while he wasn't worried about her suddenly becoming an imbued hunter, he was worried about a possible sudden hatred.
"I think that's enough of the werewolf stuff for now. I'll understand if you want to leave." He said, unsure of why everything he had done up until this point has transpired. Other shifters didn't react this badly, kinfolk didn't either usually, but she was neither and humans tended to leave fera, the changing breeds, to their own devices... or murder them in the street. either one of those possibilities was on the table right now.

Max let her feet drop to the floor with a dull thump, there wasn't enough of her to make a crash or a stamp so it was light and low but loud enough to hear from any other residents above them or below them. Her feet fell more in disbelief than in a recovering kind of way, she didn't feel so nervous now once he had changed into his lupus form because she was more familiar to that. The others she was very wary and unfamiliar of so her reaction was more or less understandable. If you look smaller than what you are, you pose less of a threat. "Leave? But I only just got here," she squeaked in a very high pitched defensive way. She was very confused, if Zachary had invited her in and showed her his various forms in the safety of his home and now he wanted her to leave?! Especially as he told her not to be frightened or to keep reminding herself that it was still Zachary Korios and that Gaia (or Garou... she couldn't remember everything, all these names starting the same letter were jumbling up in her mind) have begun to protect humans the same as her. Was he different? Was he going to hurt her?

Of course, she did not know that he was allowing her to leave if she felt uncomfortable around him. She had misinterpreted what he was saying and was merely an overreaction and went above board with her tone and pitch of her voice, when according to her, he was telling or ordering her to leave in a more polite way than she cared to respond to.

He was honestly surprised when when Max complained about leaving. Most humans would have taken off by this point anyway.
"I didn't mean that I wanted you to leave. I mean I could understand if you were scared." He said. She was resilient for one so small, and he couldn't help but smile that she would want to be around him.
"Honestly humans normally take off running. To be honest the tribe I referred to before, the Red Talons, want to cull humans again. They want to go back to keeping their numbers thinned so that their forests and valleys remain free of the pollution and corruption that humanity has brought. They don't understand that more often there is a vampire involved with the politics that destroy our habitats. That tribe is completely made up of werewolves that were born as wolves. I was born as a human, and there are those, whom most of our tribes consider cursed, who are born in crinos. That's what happens when two Garou mate." He explained.

He was having trouble being concise. It had been a long time since he had proven that he had mastered the lore... or at least the amount he was given. He was still pretty sure he hadn't covered the auspices too.
"Like I said it is very long and very, very confusing at points. I don't even know everything there is to know either. Depending on what moon we made our first change beneath, we have different roles. Three of the roles are required to learn far more than I was. I know much more than normal for one under my moon, but I'm still lacking. To be honest it would be better if one of our bards taught you." He explained.

He stopped shortly after he finished.
"I'm sorry I said no more werewolf stuff. I didn't bring you here for an educational field trip. I was telling you something most humans aren't allowed to know. and there's something I want to see about you as well." He sat next to her, and looked into her eyes.
"My brother created a ritual. It's used to determine if someone is a kinfolk to one of us. It will tell me if you're more than just a normal human. He is a kinfolk, he didn't become a full fledged werewolf, but he was gifted in his own way. If you'd like to go through it I'd like to know. Normally kinfolk just know that they are different from normal humans, but sometimes that doesn't happen for any number of reasons so I think it could be fun." He offered. That had been what he was leading up to. He sensed Max was different somehow, but he wasn't sure why. He had gotten the same feeling from several students, but was very sure they weren't kinfolk so it was as good a chance as any to see.

—————————————

OOC: Whether or not Max is kinfolk is completely up to you. I thought it would be fun to give someone a chance to join in the WoD thing Thirteen and I have going lol. If you go for it, the ritual might give you a chance to use Gnosis like Zachary but not rage and you would have access to some gifts, those that don't use rage and those that don't have a cost would be accessible as long as they are rank 1 (which I could provide you with a list). If you choose not to that's fine too :) I hadn't gotten much of a chance to do rituals with Zachary so it will be fun. Of course you can always turn down the ritual too and we can go from there. Just explaining my line of thought.

"What is the ritual? Will it be 100% safe? I don't want any trouble," she nodded accepting his kind of apology and understanding what he was saying but she found the subject of his rambling very interesting even if it did go over the top of her head. "I believe we are all different here, can't we all be kinfolk?" She didn't quite understand, everyone that she had met at Starlight Academy had some sort of power or powers so surely by her powers of deduction she could say that everyone was kinfolk. It was not by chance that everyone had agility, camouflage, anthropomorphism and such like, they must be gifted and talented.

OOC: Sorry for the short post, but you have something to expand on. Um, I'm really not sure about it, I just don't know. I don't really want Max to change a lot as I like the way she is and has developed currently.

He was starting to calm down. Revealing secrets of the tribe toed the line on breaking one of the laws in shapeshifter society, but Max was handling it well.
"I'm sorry there was a lot that was unexplained. The ritual is safe, but let's wait until you know more about this." He should have waited before to bring that up, but it had already happened so there was nothing to do about it now.
"Kinfolk and humans are different. When Garou have children there is a chance those children will be Garou. If we mate with a normal human it's about one to ten percent. Sometimes when we have children, those kids aren't garou but they have some abilities and they can watch us change without losing their minds. They are almost like half garou but they can't change. Some kinfolk are lost, and some tribes treat their kinfolk badly." He explained. "That's not to say peace with one another is a bad thing though. It takes work. Honestly this island presented a lot of things I don't know about... Like you for instance. Which brings me to another topic... do you remember christmas?"

————————————————————-

OOC: That is perfectly alright :) I'd still like to rp the ritual out if that's alright but in another topic some time. I'm trying not to plan things out too much.

Max's face beamed happily "of course I remember Christmas, that's a pretty big thing to forget." She sat up straighter than before and pushed her shoulders back leaning forward towards him, looking fresher than before because now she would be able to have normal conversation, or one that wouldn't take her too much to form words around or think too much that overloaded her mind as much as it was already.

——————————————————————————-
OOC: Sorry it's so short, haven't been able to think straight currently but I had to reply to posts, hope this is helpful. Yeah you can rp the ritual sometime, would be more than happy to help or whatever :)
