((OOC the Shadow cannot be heard by others))

James walked through the doors and into the ball, he wasn't sure what he was doing here, he'd never even been to a dance before, hell he didn't even know to dance.

PATHETIC WORM! YOU AND EVERYONE HERE WILL BE A ROTTING CORPSE

He sighed and moved through the crowd, once again grateful no one else could hear the entity he called the Shadow.

He nodded and smiled but didn't really say anything, he was a friendly person, but he felt completely out of place, a few months ago he was a thief serving a cruel man, now he was here at a party for the supernatural.

Subtle Suit and Porcelain Mask - A small form, barely gracing four feet tall, wandered between the many other guests of the ball. Though he seemed to find his way about the entirety of the ball, he somehow avoided disturbing any of the other inhabitants of the room. A finely tailored suit fell over his shoulders. It was made of dull black fabrics and decorated with embroidered patterns dancing along it's surface. It didn't appear special, but a discerning eye could perceive it's quality.

The suit was accompanied by hard soled dress shoes that clicked along as the gentleman walked, and a mask made of pure white porcelain. The mask was an expressionless shell that seemed perfectly fitted to the face underneath. The most striking feature was the eyes. Yellow, serpentine irises surrounded by an almost black sclera stared out of the eye sockets of the mask.

These eyes settled on Nyota as she fumbled about at refreshment table. A few steps brought him up next to her. "Young women should carry themselves with grace, even if they do not wish to conform to whatever it is that is expected of them." His voice sounded almost like a child's, though the words didn't seem to quite match. The gentleman picked the ladle up with one hand, and gestured at Nyota's glass with the other, offering to refill it. "May I?"

Medico della Peste Mask

The tentacles-obscured-by-a-mask-and-a-bedsheet mysterious masked man migrated towards the refreshments area. He could see that there were other humanoids hanging out over there, and he would much rather be engaging them in conversation than attempting to dance with them. This was definitely because he didn't feel like dancing and not for any other reason related to his physical capabilities. As someone who was for sure a humanoid and not a bunch of tentacles under a mask and a bedsheet, he was perfectly capable of dancing with other humans and would honestly be a little offended if you suggested otherwise.

The mysterious masked man decided to break the ice with the two small humanoids. "AH, CONSUMING THREE DIMENSIONAL FOOD. THIS IS AN ACTIVITY THAT I AS A HUMAN REGULARLY ENGAGE IN."

((At Anon with Subtle Suit and Porcelain Mask))

Nyota had downed her first cup of punch when a child suddenly spoke to her. Or at least what she assumed was a child, she was no longer certain once she looked at the boy. Sure he had the stature of someone few years younger than herself but spoke in a more dignified manner. His eyes were kinda freaky but... then again so were her's.

"Hey now! I'm graceful fuck okey?"

Nyota then leered at the child, staring him down with her eyes that glowed of sunshine.

"And I can handle getting my own drinks thank you very much."

Boldly stated Nyota, who then scoops herself another half a cup of punch with her glass as if to demonstrate a point.

((At the Medico della Peste Mask))

Nyota couldn't help but stare at the large weird man wearing a mask and... a bedsheet? No wait... a cloak? Regardless, she found his remark a little odd.

"Err... yeah... food is great. I'm sure everyone will agree with that. I mean... I like food."

With that Nyota shrugged and proceeded to ignore the weird man. Not like he was any more bizarre than the creepy child that tried to offer her punch.

The French woman smiled, a brief glimpse of fangs visible when she did. "You may call me Sparrow for tonight, ma chère." And Sparrow could see that Aylin was presumably with child, though such things were not polite to ask until a woman was father along, no?

When the music began again (a fine dark tune), Sparrow spun herself, dress flaring out and making her look like an elegant bird. She danced, synced to the song, with practiced perfection. Years of learning and a hint of magic made her seem like she was floating over the floor, a bird preening for a beautiful woman.

Once another pause came, Sparrow stopped, all too suddenly, and settled grayish blue eyes on Aylin, her own smile having gone playful.

"Aylin Arore, a name I will be sure to remember. You have a spouse, Aylin?" Here, Sparrow's eyes drifted for but a second to Aylin's slightly pronounced stomach.

She knew when people were out of place; she had been in a similar situation not so long ago. So, when the girl saw James, practically pulling into himself, she moved over to greet him with a friendly smile. "You look lonely. Care for a dance?"

Subtle Suit and Porcelain Mask - He set the ladle back down next to the punch bowl gently. "Acting without care or thought is not grace, but rather recklessness. I do hope your pride does not bring about misfortune for you or another one of these guests." @Pallas

He turned his attention to the new 'gentleman' that had arrived. "Indeed. I am afriad I ceased being human long ago however, so forgive me if I do not join you."

He looked at the girl, a bit shocked someone was asking him to dance, who would want to dance with the awkward teen? YEA THATS RIGHT, YOUR TRASH!, he ignored the Shadow's insult and focused on the girl.

"Thank you..but..I can't dance, never even been to a party before," he hated how awkward he was, he could pick locks and was agile as hell, not to mention the powers the Shadow gave him, but a simple dance was beyond his abilities.

He smiled at her though, happy someone was willing to ask him, "I'd hate to step on your feet." In truth he really wanted to dance, but didn't want others to have to deal with him as he awkwardly stumbled about.

Aylin continued to play the darker melody. She did not need to keep watch of her music while she played, this song was after all committed to her own memory, from years prior. It was the first song she had performed in her first year. it was one that was fond to her, and as such one that she could never truly forget. even so her gaze occasionally slipped to the sheet music while she played, so as to remind herself of the place in the song, as in this instance she was not playing alone, but with a full band. But when not checking her place on the page, her eyes wandered to the woman in the Blue feathered dress, Sparrow as she was to be called this evening.

The Lamia couldn't help but watch her. She was so mysterious, and playful. She was free to go where she wanted and yet she was here. Aylin found it difficult to pull her gaze away from the sparrow. The woman was entrancing to say the least. her mannerisms, and accent were both bold and thrilling. Her movements were graceful and captivating. And before Aylin could even realize the song was over, and the dancing stopped.

Again Sparrow returned and this time asked about a spouse. Aylin smiled and blushed a little. "I am not married... If that's what you mean by spouse. I have a boyfriend. But I don't know if he is coming tonight." it hadn't dawned on her till just now that she was in fact alone for the evening. At least until the Ball was over. Then she had promised to go help handing out candy and treats for little people eaters.

"My dear Sparrow. You wouldn't be interested in keeping me company for the evening would you?" She purred, reaching out to turn the page of her sheet music again. She had fallen a little behind the rest of the band now. They had already started to play, and it was time for her to join in. Once again she placed bow to string and allowed her cello to play it's song. Again another darker melody, though this time a little faster. Her eyes remained locked on the woman in blue now as she played.
