Welcome to the Manta Carlos Beach Revival!

Manta Carlos is beautiful, don’t you agree? Soft beaches, luscious forests and an entire world of magic to explore. It’s quite splendid! As the summer draws to a close, beach time is suddenly a limited resource, and I’m sure you’re all itching to get out and soak up those last rays of sunshine.

But wait! Not so fast! Is that litter I see?

Every year, enough plastic is thrown away to circle the globe four times. Billions of pounds of that plastic can be found in our oceans. It clogs waterways, sickens wildlife and destroys the beautiful ecosystem of the sea.

Now, take a look at the beaches on any given day. What do you see? Rolling waves, sparkling sand, maybe dolphins leaping in the distance. Of course! Look a little closer. There’s waterbottles, plastic bags and candy wrappers; tipped trash cans, broken glass and empty cans. We can’t ignore this. It’s dangerous for humans and animals alike.

Please join me, Solomon Sage Sinclair, and my group of volunteers as we work to improve the state of beaches all over the island. Together, we will clean up litter, remove copious seaweed and driftwood, and bring the beaches to the healthiest, most beautiful state we can.

Wear working clothes that you won’t mind getting stained, as we’ll all be getting messy. Insert all cellphones and electronics into water-tight plastic bags. Keep your trash bags as you work, too! At 5:00 PM, bags will be weighed, and the person or team with the most litter and debris will win a $150 giftcard to their family-friendly establishment of choice! If in a team, each member will receive their own gift card. No more than 4 members per team.

After the weigh in, Sage Sinclair will give a short campaign speech and beachgoers will be dismissed for the night.

The next day, when all is completed, the Burn Bright! Bonfire and Barbecue will be held from 5:00 PM - 12:00 AM on the beach. Christmas lights, food and local live music will all be featured, donated by gracious volunteers. At midnight, the driftwood, branches and other appropriate, environmentally-friendly debris from clean up efforts will be burned as a large bonfire, saving space in compost piles and giving light throughout the night. This party is a reward for the efforts of our volunteers, but any and all residents of Manta Carlos are welcome! More information about the "Burn Bright! Bonfire and Barbecue" can be found on it's own flier below.

Thank you everyone, and remember: Vote Sage for Treasurer!

Sincerely Yours,

Solomon Sage Sinclair

Sage wiped the sweat off his brow, a smile on his face despite the heat of the afternoon sun. Today was the day of his Beach Revival - Manta Carlos edition! It was a good day for it, too. A storm had just blown through the area, sweeping plastic and debris all throughout the beach. It was in serious need of a cleanup, and that was just what it would get.

The teenager beamed as he surveyed the beach. At every entrance was a table and a volunteer, taking down names and teams as people arrived to help his cause. It was already becoming successful. Sage had put just as much effort into this as he had his Septemberfest, and the advertisement was apparently paying off. Sage’s smile only widened as yet another small group arrived, success and pride blooming in his chest, and he quickly stuffed another wrapper into his garbage bag.

Thea had gotten a bane tag and some gloves and started to pick up things in the beach. She wanted to be active in everything. She might not have been on the island for long, but she wanted to be a part of the community. This were different here, she had a choice, and she was choosing go be active and happy and awesome.

"Saaage!" She yelled waving at him before going back to pick up garbage. She wasn't technically here for him, but she did like all the fun things he was doing. It wasn't a bad thing to go and enjoy the stuff and not vote. That meant everyone else was being mean too right?

Sage waved to Thea, throwing another plastic bottle into his garbage bag. He knew she wouldn't be voting him for president, but her support was still valued considerably. She was spreading the word of his events, and it's not like the campaign was the only thing he cared about. Even more than that was his passion for the environment, and every set of hands counted.

"Hey Thea~ I'm glad you're here!" Sage greeted, smiling. His first garbage bag was about half full. He pulled another from a pouch at his side, offering it to Thea. "Use this to carry everything. The booth at the entrance gave you a poker, right?"

Anna was more than happy to help Sage's environmental campaign. Good publicity, and she could campaign to people while doing it! The little girl wore a pair of cute white shorts and a blue tshirt with a 'save the sharks' logo on it. If anyone asked about it, she could give them this big long speech about how 100 million sharks were killed every year and the world's largest fish was dying and how traditional and cultural dishes were no excuse to make any species extinct. She'd done a lot of research for just this one day.

Anna was running about on the sand (against her doctor's wishes) picking up every single object that wasn't sand. Pretty shells and rocks went in a bucket to be used for the ultimate sandcastle later and trash went in the bag.

Sage waved to Anna when he saw her. It sort of warmed his heart to see someone so young acting so pepped about Student Council and environmental protection. "Hey, Anna!" he called out, grinning to himself. Her shirt was adorable, and he hoped she did well in the elections. Of course, Dorian was a bulldozer. Someone of Anna's age and experience might not fair well against said bottle-fed-on-business bulldozer, but Sage hoped she'd make an impression all the same. "Thanks for coming out to help in the clean up. The storm blew in a ton of... everything, really, and I'm worried about the wildlife."

Anna waved back to Sage cheerily. She hadn't interacted with him much before the elections started, but that was no reason why she shouldn't be friends with him now. She hadn't really thought much about the wildlife, but that was okay. She knew about them now and she was still eager to help them.

"I haven't seen any wildlife since I got here, do you think they're alright? A storm like that probably stranded a whole lotta little critters in tidepools."

Sage nodded, thinking back a bit. "I got here a bit earlier and saw a few sand crabs hitching it back to the ocean, but aside from a few gulls, I haven't seen many either. We should check the tidepools! There's one over there," he pointed to a few large stones, "in between those rocks. There may be some hermies!"

Shh, don't judge him. He'd called hermit crabs "hermies" since he was little. Herons were "Henrys" and, once upon a time, fish were exclusively "fishies" without fail. He;d grown out of that third one, but hermies was something he'd never quite lost.

Anna dropped the bucket of stones snd shells ontop of the trashbag so it wouldn't fly away, and made a beeline straight to the tide pool that Sage had pointed out. As suggested, there were a few crabs hidden inside, as well as a few starfish. Anna carefully lifted one out to show Sage.

"I found a whole bunch of them!! And there's this tiny little octopus too!! Sage what do we do with them?"

"An octopus? No kidding!" Sage said, jogging up behind her. Wow! He;d never actually seen an octopus outside of an aquarium before. And that weird octopus salad thing that was always in supermarket sushi bars. Yuck! He couldn't even think of eating this cute little guy.

Crouching down, Sage peered into the water and then back to Anna. "Do you have another bucket we could fill with water? It would be a good idea to transport them without too much air exposure, as it going hurt them. I can show you the best place to release them at, and we can hit up a few other pools along the way."
