Ray found the note and dressed in more feminine clothes again. She pulled her hair into a ponytail, slipped on her sneakers, and bounded down the stairs.

She entered the spot where Chris had said to meet him, and froze. About a billion emotions ran through her, none of which were good. Everything seemed to slow down and her heart plummited to the bottom of her feet.

Her breath caught in her throat with a nearly silent, tiny gasp, and she rubbed the back of her neck, telling herself to chill. She recieved a glare and a dismissive motion from the girl hanging on Chris' neck. Then the girl kissed him, and Ray promptly decided she could calm down elsewhere before he saw her.

She turned and ran, her sneakers making a slight clatter on the sidewalk until she reached the grass. She wasn't running like somebody emotionally disturbed, but rather just running. Her face was peaceful. Everything made her look like she was just running for fun, aside from the tortured look behind her intense eyes.

Chris brushed Kaycee off and looked to where he had heard someone start. He saw the back of Ray, and she looked to be running. "Wonderful." He glared at his ex before completely ignoring her and bustling off after Ray.

"Ray, wait!" He managed to catch up with her and grabbed her arm. Realizing that he still clutched his bag of muffins he offered her one. "I don't want to say it's not what you think, because I don't know what you're thinking. So let's take another approach. What do you think happened?" He hadn't let go of her arm, was afraid that she's bolt again and he wanted to get this all sorted out.

Ray was jerked to a stop with Chris' hand on her arm, and she observed him stoicaly. Her face was entirely void of anything. Her eyes flicked down to the muffin he offered, and then back up to his face. Uncertainty flitted through her eyes for a moment before she met his eyes. "You're hurting me." she flicked her eyes down to where his grip was on her arm.

Her breathing was slow and controlled. The thought that she was just a rebound had been in her head since the beginning of their date the day before. She was still unsure of what emotion was going to take over inside. So far it was Anger, Pain, Sadness, or Nothing fighting for the lead.

Chris let go of her arm, not quite sure what she meant. He was sure he was overanalyzing everything but who wouldn't in a situation like this? "Ray, this is-" He was cut off by Kaycee who had materialized by his arm and taken the muffin from his hand. "Here, I'll explain this." The female steered Ray away from Chris and stood in front of her so Chris could only see the back of her head and Ray's face.

"Listen here." Her voice instantly became a hiss and her eyes took on an evil glint. "I don't know who you are but you'd better stay away from Chris. We've had our differences in the past but we're going to get back together, whether he wants to or not. And I'd rather if you didn't stick around, it wouldn't be good for you. Chris'll only hurt you in the end, I know for a fact that he's been using you to make me jealous. I just hope we can be friends." She spoke very fast as if that would help convince Ray and when she was done she patted the younger girl's shoulder.

Ray was pulled aside by Kaycee, and by the time the older girl was finished, Ray's emotions had set in anger and nothing. She smirked at Kaycee, and then put all of her weight behind a heavy punch. Then she blew a cocky little kiss at the older girl. She walked up to her, snatched the uneaten chocolate muffin from her hand, and smirked again.

She leaned very close to Kaycee's ear, gripping the other girl's arm tightly to keep her from moving away. "That's my muffin. And if you knew anything about Chris, you'd know we have a history." she stepped back and patted the other girl's cheek sharply. She flashed a very catty grin at her. "I'd give up, if I were you."

She stood straighter and let out a snort. "I have better things to do than be here right now. Catch you later, Chris." she tossed a half smirk his way before jogging over to a group of skaters at the edge of a skate part.

She got a few looks that said 'Wow look Ray's a girl' but she silenced any comments with a glare, stole one of her friend's boards, and launched herself into the parking lot.

Kaycee reeled in shock and pain from the punch that had landed her on her backside. She gingerly touched the cheek Ray had hit and got up, not quite sure what to do. The manipulative female locked her gaze on Chris and sauntered over, turning her voice to a half purr half whine. "Chrissy-poo, look at what that girl did to me!" She wrapped her arms around his neck.

"Yeah. And?" Chris disengaged her arms and stepped back, shaking his head. "There will never be another chance for us Kaycee, and I suggest that you leave me alone. We're through, and I honestly never want to see you again."

Unsure of what to do Chris figured that chasing Ray would be a bad idea so he wandered over to her room. He sat outside of her door to wait for her, figuring she'd come back as soon as she saw him disappear. So he waited. And waited... and waited. Soon his head slumped onto his chest and he fell asleep.

Ray didn't come back for a long while. When she did get back, she first went to the dorm of the pal she'd stolen the board from and returned it. Then she got an apple from the cafeteria, and headed up to her room.

She paused to find a sleeping Chris there, and sighed. She nudged his leg with her foot while taking a bite of her apple. She waited for him to come to, before speaking matter-of-factly. "You're in the way." she said simply, not angry, not sad, not hurt. Just, stated.

Chris woke with a start when Ray nudged him and it took a moment for him to remember why excactly he was curled up in a ball in front of her door. Than it all hit him. Oh crud, how had all of that happened in a matter of minutes. And where the heck were his muffins?

"Sorry about that." He stood and sidestepped out of the way, eyes never leaving Ray's face. He waited for her to make the first move, to say she never wanted to see him again or something like that. He could try to persuade her if she thought that, but he wasn't sure if she was up to a conversation just then.

Ray raised an eyebrow at his apology, but said nothing, walking into her dorm room. She rested her hand on her door knob, as though she was going to close the door, and then she spoke. "You know, maybe we're better off just being friends." Her voice was soft, and so was her entire face, a small, almost sad smile lifting the corners of her mouth.

She tossed her apple in the air and then caught it again, not moving her hand from the door knob. She directed her intense eyes at his. "So, eh, I'll see you around, okay?" she cocked her head to the side, smile still in place, though she broke eye contact in case he could see through her eyes that she was lying about being okay with just being friends.

Though he had been mentally preparing himself for something like that Chris couldn't help but be surprised that she had said what he was dreading. He could feel his heart sinking to the bottom of his shoes, Chris was sure he'd be kicking it back to his room. Without knowing he was doing it, he bit his lip, probably to stop himself from saying anything rash.

"If that's the way... you feel." Crud, say something Chris! His mind practically screamed at him. But his mouth seemed to have dislocated itself from his brain. How was he supposed to go through the whole day like he had been hit by a train? He pretty much had, the emotional train. Yesterday had been almost perfect, and now this happened. Chris was frozen in place, eyes on the carpet. He wanted to say something, anything to change her mind. But he didn't know what to say.

So he decided to run. He was very good at running. He had run away from the truth with Kaycee. He had run away a million times before that, and now he was doing it with Ray. "I guess I'll just leave now. But I don't think we can be friends Ray. Not right now. If we're 'just friends' I think I'll go crazy. So I'll see you in a few weeks I guess." He had been aimlessly kicking the carpet, trying to think of ways to painlessly leave this. He figured it should be quick, like ripping off a bandaid. "Bye, Ray." He stuffed his hands into his pockets to prevent himself from touching her, and as a warning to his mouth not to say anything. He didn't even look at her again, just left and walked slowly down the hall.

He knew he was doing it on purpose. He was waiting for her to call out to him, admit it was all a mistake and could they please start over? He didn't know why he was doing this to himself, he should be runnnnnning. He would go straight back to his room to pull the covers over his head, ignore his room mate yet again and try to go to sleep.
