To be frank, Konpeitō felt silly. He felt silly for a multitude of reasons. For jumping so quickly at being Natsuki's roommate. For being careless enough to think his relationship with the other NEK0s would be fine when he was "friendly" with Tieragoran. For thinking he could handle relationships with so much baggage on both sides. And lastly, for genuinely thinking he could get to know Tier better because maybe he wasn't as awful as he portrayed himself to be.

But what was there to lose with being silly other than pride? And that implied Kon had any pride to begin with. So really, what was he losing? That simple thought made it easy for him to approach Tieragoran as he exited the arena when his shift was over.

With a hearty wave and a skip, Kon said, "Hi Tier! Are you free after work? I was thinking we could hang out."

Tier was deep, deep in paperwork hell. The tournament was a thing, and since it had been his idea, it meant he was responsible for all the paperwork.

It was not fun. It was such a far cry from his old job that he couldn't help but wonder how the hell he'd managed to get the job at all. Had they thought he was doing sheafs of paperwork while corralling the NEK0?

No, no he had not been. Paperwork as utilitarian. Brief. He was going to have to make them revamp, wasn't he?

Yes, yes he was.

He glanced up at Kon as they spoke, staring levelly at him.

"...Hang out?"

"You heard right," Kon replied. "I've been trying to get to know other people who work at the arena, so I thought it'd be good to hang out with you too. Especially with, you know, our 'shaky' relationship."

Of course, Tieragoran wouldn't be interested in spending time with Konpeitō with nothing in return. There needed to be something clearly in it for him. "I was thinking of a restaurant? I don't mind paying either."

"I wasn't aware we had a shaky relationship," Tier said rather pointedly. "As far as I was aware, we were perfectly cordial to one another."

Mostly because Kon had learned to keep their mouth shut, something that he was hoping could be matched by the other NEK0.

He paused for a moment, raising a bushy eyebrow.

"Are you attempting to bribe me with food?"

"Really?" Kon didn't try to hide his surprise. "I assumed you thought of me as annoying, or at the very least, only tolerated me. Either way, I'm glad to hear things are good between us!"

At the mention of the bribe, Kon gave a shrug. "If you want to see it like that. I was trying to be nice. Though, I'll admit, I did think paying would make you more open to the idea. Are you up for it, or no?"

"Really," Tier said. "I don't hate people. It's a waste of energy. I prefer to judge people based on their current state. Right now you're an employee. You're not going to make trouble, and you're obviously useful to me. I can't imagine why you'd think I disliked you."

Because he'd eaten Nek0 in the past? Because Tier had tormented them a bit?

Water under the bridge.

"I don't have any objections to you taking me out to dinner, although I'll point out this does sound rather like a date."

"That's something I can agree with. It's why I don't have anything against you." Though Kon wasn't sure how he felt about how similar he and Tieragoran were when it came to how they viewed hatred.

The comment about Kon's request sounding like a date got a laugh out of him. "It can be if you want," he said with a jokingly flirtatious tune. "But I thought you had your eye on Valentine? The one with blue hair. And you already said I'm not your type. I'm not desperate enough to chase someone not interested in me."

"You wouldn't know what to do if someone said yes," Tier said, "but you're not my type. You're too..." He paused for a moment, searching for the word. "Spirited. I don't want someone who's going to spend all their time arguing with me, which you'd likely do. I could list all your negative traits if you'd like, but I don't see the point."

He could go on for quite a long while.

"No, I have no serious interest in Valentine."

Kon ended up rolling his eyes, making the smile on his face come off as tired. "Don't bring up my negative traits if you don't see the point, then. But I do like being called spirited! It's a trait I'm proud of."

There wasn't much of a change in expression when Tier said he wasn't seriously interested in Valentine. It also wasn't a topic Kon had any serious interest in.

"So, how about we get going?"
❤❤❤

The restaurant he picked out was more suited for a quick and casual lunch, as opposed to one where there was fancy decoration and expensive meals. Kon leaned back comfortably in his seat after ordering his food, some of which contained sugary fruits he shouldn't have been able to eat.

"How's the island been for you so far? Looks like you settled in quite nicely already." Kon asked, not content to let there be too much silence.

Tier had most definitely noticed that Kon was eating off diet. How could he not notice? He knew the NEK0 diet like the back of his hand, but he didn't immediately comment. Obviously they'd found some way to tamper with their body, and this was clearly just some extension of that.

"My managerial experience is directly translatable to more legitimate jobs," Tier said, already impatient for the food he'd ordered. "Getting a job was easy. Getting a proper apartment, once I had a job, was even easier. Not as plush as what I was used to, but beggars can't be choosers." He'd considered going back to school, and then decided against it. Having experience on Manta Carlos was just as good as having a degree, and a business degree wasn't going to help him. It'd just waste his time.

"You seem to be adjusting well."
