The tiniest bit of frustration showed on Kon's face as a crease in his forehead. He was trying to be kind, only to have all of it ignored. It might have been justified, considering the nature of the conversation, but some acknowledgment would have been nice.

But that was nothing compared to what Tieragoran was saying. A twisted feeling arose in his stomach. Was it the food he ate? If only. Kon was painfully aware he wanted to see the NEK0s as family and wasn't sure how he'd feel if he ruined that. Were his personal morals worth leaving that? Maybe Aisha wouldn't even care.

"Well," he started off unsurely, "that's something I'll need to figure out over time. Have a new family or be a hypocrite and potentially hurt my friends if it was ever revealed."

Leaning back in his seat, he gave an exhausted sigh. "Looks like either way I'm screwed, but on the bright side, whatever option I pick is my own. I'm not going to let everyone else tell me how to think and live. But thanks for the tips. I'm already figuring out what I'll do."

He supposed--in a very distant, detached way--that it was a good way to think of it. That he was making his own decisions. That kind of thing mattered a lot to people like the nek0, people who'd had no say in their own lives for so much of it.

He couldn't relate. He'd been restricted in his own way, locked into a tiny number of options, but he'd never been a slave like them. He didn't think he'd ever allow himself to be a slave.

"I've been thinking about cutting my hair," he said abruptly, a blatantly obvious change of subject. "You seemed like someone who would know about that, considering you've reinvented your look seven times before I finish eating."

The change in subject gave Kon whiplash. There was no smooth transition. There was no hint that this was where the conversation would go. And that left Kon needing a couple of seconds to figure out how to respond to Tier.

After rebooting his brain and realizing he had a puzzled smile on his face, he forced his eyebrows back from their furrowed state and nodded. "Experimenting with new looks is one of the best parts about living a new life. Can't blame me for having a bit too much fun with it," he said with a playful tune.

"I think you'd look good with short hair. Are you looking for any style in particular? I think the right one could shape your face nicely."

He hadn't intended for it to be a smooth transition. He'd simply intended for it to be a change. He was done with talking about the old conversation, and with Kon's earlier comments about wanting to move past it...

Well, he'd take the new topic or he'd leave it.

"Mm, I haven't looked into styles," he said. "I glanced at the general idea and considered it might be easier to maintain if it was shorter. Simple enough."

As Kon thought about what kind of short hairstyles would look good on Tier, he gave a short sigh, thinking about how much trouble it is to keep long hair looking nice.

"Maintaining my hair used to be such a pain. Going for something short would be smart. With it being spring and summer coming up, I'm sure having long, thick hair will start getting in the way.

"Personally, I think keeping your bangs would be nice. Maybe leave some long hair so you can keep those accessories you have one. It gives off a regal vibe."

"I'll consider it," Tier said, split on the subject of bangs. Realistically, the final decision was going to be whoever he called on to actually cut his hair. He wasn't picky enough to demand a certain style. Utility trumped style, even if he was still a vain person.

The rest of the meal was eaten in relative small-talk, chatter back and forth without touching the subject of contention again. Tier wasn't planning to bring it up, and it seemed that Kon wasn't going to either.
