"I can keep going! I'm just running out of ideas."

Maddie played with his hair as they walked, trying to style it this way and that. She wasn't a good hair stylist in the least.

Laetus nodded. "I am too, but I'm sure we can think of something." He told her as he walked. As they drifted aimlessly, Laetus would begin wandering through the city park.

"Hey, Kiwi?" Maddie said after a long period of silence wherein she was looking around the park.

"Do you have any brothers are sisters? What's your family like?"

Laetus stopped for a moment, seeming to tense up for just a split second before continuing to walk as if nothing happened. "Sorta. I lived in a pretty.... isolated community. So any 'children' tended to grow up close. But biologically, no. It was just my parents."
He walked along a bit longer before continuing.
"My mother was always supportive of anything I wanted to do. Your classic enabler. She even gave me my ring when I left the forest... My father on the other hand... He was really restrictive. He wanted me to grow up trapped in the forest like he did... 'Protect the forest and it will protect you'..." He sighed.

Maddie frowned when Laetus tensed up. She was quiet as he told her about his family. It surprised her momentarily that he had lived in a forest, but she supposed that must have been normal for his people.

"Why did you put that emphasis on children?" she asked.

Maddie really wanted to know why Laetus' father wanted him trapped in a forest, but that seemed like a sore spot for him, so she held off on it for now.

She played with his hair, running her fingers through it and untangling any knots it may have had.

"Well... Fairies... Get really old. My father for example was a few thousand years old, but would be considered equivalent to maybe a human in his... 30's? Maybe a bit older..." He chuckled a bit. "At 21, I'm practically an infant... Well, it doesn't scale as black and white as I make it sound, but as an example, someone I looked to as a sort of 'older brother' was about 200 years old."

Maddie made a surprised, strangled sound.

"And your parents were married for how long? Why didn't they have more kids? Do you guys physically age normally?"

And there it was. A stream of questions asked so quickly Maddie could hardly get one out before the next was coming.

Laetus shrugged. "I dunno. They always just told me it never happened..." He stopped again, this time by a bench under a lamppost. "And... Not really. I honestly have no idea how it all works."
He leaned down to let her take a seat, then would sit next to her.

Maddie was quick to get off of him and set on the bench.

"So, your family protects the forest?" her question was hesitant. Did they protect all forests? Certain forests?

She turned to him, pulling her knees to her chest and sitting sideways on the bench.

"Not just my family." He answered, turning to her the same way, but resting cross legged.
"My whole village served to protect the forest. Just the one forest though. There are other forests that are strongly tied to magic for one reason or another, and they tend to attract both my kind, and other beings who would abuse it..." He thought for a moment.
"I have no idea what made that forest special, but there were endless legends... Whatever it was, it must have happened an endless number of millennia ago. Even our elders didn't know for sure... Most theories involved the old gods and things of that nature."
