"So you're going to live for thousands of years..." Maddie tried to imagine living that long. To her it just seemed torturous, losing all your mortal friends, watching the world constantly change.

"That sounds difficult."

He looked at her with a look of confusion. "How is it difficult?" He asked her, tilting his head.

"If you live that long you have to go through a lot of loss. It sounds hard."

"Loss?" He asked. "What would I..."He paused. She could see the realization slowly hit him, shattering his usual happy-go-lucky expression as it all came to him. "I..."
His gaze fell, and he brought his knees up in front of him, curling up. "I never..."
She could see tears start to well up in his eyes.
"Thought... about it..."

Maddie was up and at his side in an instant. She awkwardly wrapped her arms around him.

"Oh no! Don't cry. That'll be a long time away you know. I just — I shouldn't have said anything."

Laetus would awkwardly adjust his position to let himself lean against her. She would see a few tears fall. "I... I've never had anyone... Get old on me." He mumbled, obviously dancing around words like 'die'.
Thousands of thoughts flooded his mind, and he would become more and more depressed as they went on. Eventually he would break, clinging to her like a child. She could almost hear his heart shatter as it all sunk in.

Maddie was more than guilty. She shouldn't have said anything. Shouldn't have made him think about it.

She ran her hands through his hair as a method of calming him down and held him close.

"Hey, it's not happening now, you know? You have so much time with everyone you love. Don't waste it feeling sad. When that time comes, you'll be ready for it."

Laetus looked up at her, his face soaked with tears. His gaze met hers for a moment before he buried his face into her, holding on to her tightly. He didn't know what to say. All of this was overwhelming. He didn't want to outlive all his friends... To outlive her... He really was a child. The idea of death had never come to him. On some level, he thought things would just continue as they were forever...

Maddie tried to pull his head away from her torso and get him to meet her eyes.

"Laetus," she said in a pitiful whisper. "Laetus, it's okay. I'm still here and I'm not going away anytime soon. It's okay."

"mm..." Laetus looked up at her for a while before he finally let go. "I'm sorry..." He wiped his eye with his hand and shook his head, trying to regain himself.
"I..." He was sitting properly now, but clearly wasn't back to himself. He smiled at her, but it didn't seem as genuine as it usually did. There were still tears in his eyes.
"We're still young." He said, more to remind himself than anything else.
