"The love police?" Maddie asked skeptically. It was a joke, honest. She was wondering if that made this a date-date, or a faux-date.

"So, like....a date?" she attempted to ask as casually as she could muster.

Laetus shrugged. "Guess it is." He said standing up. He held his hand out to her.
"Should be fun, right?"

He's perhaps a bit too casual about this XD Hes so laid back and unserious, this is starting to get hard to write without sounding stupid or wrong to me.

Oh Laetus....I love him so much, but his casualty makes him terrible. Lool. He is going to kill her, just kill her.

Maddie stared at his hand for a good minute, then took it. Wait, was he being for real? 'I guess' didn't sound like the kind of answer you wanted a guy to give you in that situation.

She was so confused.

"Yeeeeah," she said slowly. Still trying to understand this wacky situation. She cleared her throat to rid it of some of its tightness. "So, I guess we could try some of the games first."

He smiled when she finally took his hand, but seemed really confused as to why she hesitated. It didn't matter much though.
"Sounds perfect!" He said happily.
With a direction to all this, he started toward the games. He was... walking? Not floating. Was there a reason for this? ... Was there a reason for anything he did?
"So, what game first?" He asked, looking around. "Any prizes catch your eye?"

Maddie wondered if he was walking so he wouldn't pull her upward or something. This guy was so confusing. Were all men this complicated?

Maddie took in the games. There was one of those games where you picked up a mallet and tried to ding the bell; they had kissing booths, a game where you threw a ball into a fish bowl, shooting games, and games where you tried to knock bottles down.

Maddie was sure they had more but that's all she could see from where they stood. She decided to have some fun with it all and try to stop thinking about how much Laetus baffled her.

She pointed to the mallet. "Are you strong enough to ring the bell?"

"Hm?" Laetus looked at the game and tilted his head for a moment, then grinned devilishly and dug into his pocket for the money. When he took the mallet, he waved it around a few times.
"This... should be fun." He said with a laugh. He then took a couple steps back, holding the hammer back. Was this for momentum? .... Nope, Laetus tossed the hammer high into the air, and it soon disappeared from sight. Laetus then turned and stood there with a dumb grin, as if stifling a laugh from an untold joke.

I've had an idea for this trick pretty much since I made Laetus. X3

Maddie's eyes bulged as the mallet disappeared. She looked at Laetus, then up where the mallet had been.

"I don't think you're getting to point of the game, Kiwi," she said sheepishly.

Now you get to use it! :D

"Wait for it" He said with a wink. After about a minute, a portal opened up above the pressure plate and the mallet crashed into it, breaking it, launching the weight to fire through the bell and leave a sizable crater in its wake. The festival staff and onlookers would be left staring in disbelief as Laetus grinned.
"So, I believe that's a win. Pick your prize, Cherry-chan."

"I love it XD

"Um," Maddie said dumbly. Surely the staff wouldn't be pleased with that, but then, maybe, this wasn't the first time.

Still staring in disbelief, Maddie pointed to a random stuffed animal. A fat, purple monkey with stubby legs.

She took it without really looking at it. She was still too busy gawking at the broken game. How had he done that? Where did that portal go? She was on a date with a crazy person, wasn't she?

"What...did you do?"

"Hm? ... Oh!" He laughed. "Well, when I threw it into the air, I caught it in a portal..."
He thought back for a minute. "I got the idea a while back... I learned about this thing called 'terminal velocity'. Sounded fun... And it is!" Yes. Yes, she is out with a crazy person.
"So, by chaining portals together, I can get anything to terminal without it going too far. It's not always a useful ability, but clearly it has its moments." He said all of this so casually... Like it was normal. Like everyone contemplates the uses of terminal velocity in daily activities.
He paused for a moment, then added "You like any prizes over there?" He asked, pointing out the game where you knock over bottles.
