Little Dragon, Roar-Roar

A small little dragon was curled in a warm basket, staring at the ground as it moved beneath her. The person carrying her spoke gently, "They're like you, little dragon — you'll be safe here." Without another word from the messenger, who had been sent to deliver the little dragon, the basket is left on the doorstep of the very large manor.

Once the basket is sat down and the messenger is gone, the little dragon tumbles over the side of the basket with a squeal — it had been attempting to roar. Crimson red scales shone in the soft morning light, and the tiny dragon is soon bouncing around on the doorstep, bumping into the door repeatedly as she amuses herself trying to catch the sun's rays.

Eventually she tumbles head over heels with a thump, her basket is sent off the doorstep and onto one of the stairs. She clambers down with some difficulty and attacks her basket with another squeal, rolling onto her back with the blanket in her claws.

She squirmed about in the basket, tossing the blanket in the air and catching it — multiple times, only to fail on her last try and the blanket lands outside of the basket. Now, without a blanket to amuse her, the little dragon began to cry; very loudly. She was easily amused, and easily upset, it would seem.

Cecete's well-trained ears picked up the cries of a child. It was early morning, and she was in bed with her fiance. She opened her eyes. This was not a day she had to work, so she was able to stay with her lover. Thankfully she was a morning person at least. The blonde rolled out of bed and quickly slipped something on. The crying was coming from outside. She held concerns; the cries were young. Clearly they were dealing with a baby. She rushed downstairs to go to the door. Who would leave a baby alone? Who was that stupid?

Well, besides her biological parents anyway.

She peeked through the door to see a basket with a baby at the doorstep. Not only was it a baby, but it was a baby dragon. Could this be Alex's relative? She questioned the child's parents and their skills at child-rearing. She fully opened the door and crouched down next to the basket. There was a blanket that fell out of it. She picked up the blanket and gently placed it on the dragon. She couldn't identify what type it was, but the crimson scales reminded her of fire. Even so, she couldn't let the child catch a cold.

"Shhh, it is okay...."

The woman lifted the basket and entered the mansion. She shut the door and wandered over to the living room. Once she sat down on the couch, she reached into the basket to pull the baby out and cuddle the cat-sized dragon close. She wrapped the blanket around the dragon to provide additional warmth. It was Winter after all. She didn't think about Alex's response to the situation; she acted immediately to ensure the child's safety. It was like her motherly instincts kicked in; motherly instincts that she did not know she had.

Mornings were the absolute worst times of day for Alex. Just something about waking up was rather...irritating. Cecete on the other hand didn't seem to mind mornings as much, in fact she was already up and out of bed. He could faintly hear something akin to crying in a distance. No it wasn't similar to crying it was crying. He sighed as he forced himself out of bed and into some clothes.

The half awake dragon managed to make his way down the stairs and into the living room where he found his fiance holding a baby. He was informed that he would be receiving a new relative, he wasn't aware that she was going to be so young. Details were neglected, how typical.

"This must be our new addition," the dragon king said as he sat down next to Cecete. He studied her without taking her. Cecete looked oddly motherly with the way she was holding her. Aside from that, he wouldn't know what to do if someone handed him a child. Alex was more warrior and administrator than father figure.

"Celesta, welcome to our home," He cast a slight tired smile her way before sinking into the couch.

The little dragon sneezed, as she squirmed within her blanket. As she was cuddled, the small creature would give a soft, rumbling purr. When the strange male entered — and spoke her name, the little creature gave a squeak of excitement and squirmed more...

Only to shift forms. She hung there, in the nice lady's arms and began to clap her hands. "'lesta! 'lesta!" She chanted, reaching eagerly to claim a handful of Alex's hair.

Should she have grasped the man's hair, she would tug rather hard. Within a few moments of her attempt to sabotage the man's good looks, the little girl began to sneeze again.

She twisted around so she was laying on her back in the strange lady's arms, giggling upward. Bright, green eyes studied the lady, before the child shouted, "Mommy!"

She paused for a second, before she stuffed her fingers into her mouth, gnawing on them — she was quite hungry. Her tear-stained face was bright, despite the faint tear-trails. She waved her other hand, the one not in her mouth, at the man and crooned against her fingers.

The little dragon squeaked and turned into a human. From her appearance, she seemed to be a toddler just about. She could probably crawl and maybe walk. Cecete thought about her village. The moment she was able to walk, she was put through training just like all of the other girls. She wasn't sure how dragons went about this though. She was steadily learning more about Alex's family and his kind in general. Now if only she could speak proper Draconic. She could easily chirp like a bird, but her throat died whenever she tried to say anything in Draconic speak. She wondered if her "dragon" form would have a better time.

A smile spread on her face as the baby expressed cheer. So her name was Celesta? Celesta Drakenhardt....what a beautiful name. It was a shame that her parents were so careless. Good thing they thought to send their daughter to the house. Of course, this would probably add to Alex's stress level....Cecete was determined to do whatever she could to be a good partner and a good queen. She had to help her fiance with his balancing act. She probably needed to teach him a bit about children. Wait, who was she kidding? She definitely needed to learn how to care for children. She was not taught child-rearing.

Just as she opened her mouth to speak, Celesta decided to add an additional one-word response. That one word was enough to make Cecete blush wildly. She called her "mommy". The little girl thought she was her mother! Good heavens...she tried to recollect her thoughts as her arms held the baby. She gently rocked her back and forth. As she did this, her head turned to face Alex. Looking at him now, he definitely seemed groggy. Poor Alex; he wasn't a morning person like her. She gave him a sympathetic smile while still blushing over the mommy comment.

"I think she desires food."

She based this on the fact that the child was biting on her own fingers. Hopefully her evaluation wasn't off. ....But what do you even feed a baby dragon?

Alex yawned and stood up, heading into the kitchen without a word. The child was hungry, he at least knew what baby dragons ate so this much wouldn't be such a big deal. He went into the refrigerator and pulled out some raw meat, cutting it into small pieces, then scorching them with his fire. Just like his parents had done for him when he was small. She was big enough that she wasn't on semi liquids but still too small to hunt the standard animals dragons went after, namely cattle.

He tossed the meat into a bowl and seasoned it before returning. He had a bit of a problem in that there wasn't any silverware that was her size. And perhaps a bowl of cereal would have been a better choice for her. Dragons could eat what was considered "human foods" after all. Maybe he was just over thinking it, he'd never really had to take care of a baby dragon at any point in his life.

"Cecete, I haven't the slightest Idea what I'm doing," he said to his fiance as he sat down and offered a piece of meat to the child. This would be his strangest challenge yet. And she wasn't even his child , but Cecete was mommy which made Alex daddy. Yeah no, he wasn't ready.

Celesta gave a little growl and reached with both hands to claim the bit of meat. She beamed upward with a giggle. She chewed the meat, slobbering on her hands as she ate. She reached out for another piece, gurgling quietly to herself; her focus was on eating.

When another piece was given, she would chew on it and squirm happily. The child's slobbery hands reached up to once again attempt to claim someone's hair — though this time she was not paying attention to whose.

Celesta giggled loudly as she squirmed into a sitting-position, sucking on the fingers of one hand, the other hand supporting herself as she moved to climb from Cecete to Alex's lap.

She would plop down with a squeal that was more draconic than human, and giggle upward. She reached into the bowl to claim another piece of meat, one again making quite the mess in eating just that one piece of meat.

The simple white smock she wore as a dress was covered in seasoned meat bits, and saliva.

Thankfully Alex could cook. She kept rocking Celesta as he left to make her something. It felt odd to hold a little baby in her arms like this. She never did this before. It surprised her that she could hold her properly. Then again, she did hear a thing or two from her father. Yeah, she definitely needed to send a letter to her father. He would have more of a clue what to do. She would send it along with her usual letters to her mother. Oh God, her mom. She could only imagine the Queen's reaction to her daughter now suddenly being a mother. Her fiance came back with a bowl of meat. He made a comment about his lack of knowledge when it comes to children. Cecete raised an eyebrow at Alex.

"And you think I do?"

The child seemed pleased with the meat. She watched the kid devour pieces of the meat. A giggle escaped her. What a cute little dragon. Was this how baby dragons were like? This fascinated her greatly. She contemplated what a child between Alex and her would look like. She wasn't sure what she actually was biologically. She never bothered figuring out her race. Now that intrigued her....then again, that was to worry about later! She was in no rush to get pregnant. Celesta would make for an interesting test endeavor. She anticipated that she would make a mistake or two, but she was determined to do what she could for the girl.

Her long wavy hair was pulled and dirtied by saliva and meat. Her mouth twisted a bit. That was definitely not fun. She would have to take care of that later. The woman moved a bit closer to the man. The child moved in between them. She thought about the other residents of the house and could only giggle. She couldn't wait to see how they'd react to their new relative. She then noticed that the child was only wearing a white smock, and it was getting absolutely filthy. A frown etched on her face. They didn't have clothes her size, did they? This was the first time they had someone this young living with them. She would need new clothes if the basket didn't contain them.

"She will require various supplies. I could go shopping today. I do not have to go in for work, so I will have time."

Now what was it she needed?

Marduk probably knew a thing or two more about child rearing than anyone else in the house. Asking him seemed like a good decision. Celesta would definitely need some new clothes though, perhaps a few toys as well. Still who dressed a toddler up in white clothes? Granted, any outfit a toddler wore was bound to get messy but white was just a purely bad idea in his opinion. What do kids even play with now? He was intent on not turning her into a gaming zombie like Xylina and Raul. He would just have to ask around.

"Clothing and toys would be a good start. I don't know what kinds of beds toddlers sleep in," clothes were definitely at the top of his list. Toys for the sake of keeping her occupied. And then another realization dawned on him, he was going to have to teach her dragon things. It was something Cecete wouldn't really be able to help with very much. It made him wonder what kind of child they'd have when they actually had one of their own.

Now he had a child climbing on him, happily eating and his fiance seated next to him. He supposed this was something to expect more of. He wanted to drift off but he couldn't. Too much was happening. Maybe she'd eat herself to sleep and he could catch a quick nap. Maybe he was asking for too much, it was fine.

"Now that I think about it, did she come with a note?" he asked adjusting himself so Celesta could be more comfortable.

Celesta continued to eat, and when all the meat was gone, she began to yawn, though it did not seem that she wished to sleep just yet — she would fight sleep for as long as she could.

She began to grow tired of her now-soaked smock, and was soon wriggling free of the dirty cloth. Her small feet touched the floor as she hung onto Alex's knee, gurgling. She fell with a soft 'oomph', as she had released her hold on the man's knee to pull the smock over her head.

She stared upward and giggled, her green eyes studying the man. And, there, pinned to the inside of the smock (though upon closer inspection they would see that the smock had been inside-out when she had been wearing it) was a note — short, simple words.

'Celesta Vasilisa Drakenhardt.
Born on December 31, 2012.'

The child was already crawling furiously around on the floor, trying to catch her shadow. She wore a simple, cloth diaper that had been fitted to her person with the same pins used to pin the note to her — it would appear that whoever had been taking care of the child had preferred old methods rather than new.

The little red-head gurgled loudly as she rolled onto her back, waving upward to both of the adults. She was soon standing upright, grasping tightly to Cecete's leg as she stood. Hugging the woman's leg, she buried her face against her knee and giggled.

Drooling on her new mommy's knee, the child studied the man before she tumbled to cling to one of his legs. "D'up!" She seemed to have smushed her words together; but alas, she continued to demand to be picked up.

"Up! Up!"
