Laverna could keep him after class for as long she liked, for all Eric cared. As much as she was a complete pain in the ass, she also, as Marcel Duchamp would put it, "LHOOQ". It was an unfortunate combination, but one Eric would overlook.
And yet... it turned out he wasn't the only one staying after class. Did none of these other kids have anywhere to go? It seemed like the whole classroom stayed behind, and not just for the extra practice tests. Well... Eric would wait. No one said he wasn't a patient man. Because he wasn't. But sometimes he had to be.
One of his new classmates did approach him however. It was funny. In the presence of any other teacher, Eric would have easily paid this girl his full attention. She was quite cute, but Laverna wasn't just cute. She wasn't even just hot. She was literally the only thing he could think about right then and there.
"Yeah," Eric dreamily replied to the girl. He did manage a smile, but it was rather distant. "Miss Reva? She's... doable."
...
"Durable. Very durable personality, to put up with me," Eric corrected himself with a grin. "Much like you, yeah?" He recovered himself just enough to realize he should probably be flirting with his classmate as well.
Either way, he was thankful for her advice. No 'ehs' (Note to self: use "eh"), no 'likes' (Note to self: use "like"), and if he scored high on his tests he'd get cupcakes and coffee (Note to self: I still don't like either. Too sugary/caffeiny. But maybe score high anyway. Extra office hours with teacher?). All of it good advice.
And most importantly, don't fall asleep. But he knew that one all too well already. Eric smiled, rubbing the back of his head, "Thanks for the heads up. What's your name?"
At least he got one phone number that day.
