With Tiffany on his arm, Isaac led her gently from the mixer and off to the park. The sun had set already, but the moon and stars were bright enough, as were the street lamps that illuminated their path. He was quiet for a while, considering what he should even begin to say...Tiffany'd broken up with her boyfriend, the main thing that had stood in his way of asking her out. He didn't want to jump on her just after her last relationship had ended, though...so he'd bide his time for now, remaining close to her if she allowed him to.

"You seem to be taking things rather well," he observed after a moment. Usually girls who had just been through a breakup were quite the mess. "I'm sorry that it...didn't work out." Okay, that was a lie. He was glad that things didn't work out. But he didn't want Tiffany to know that he felt that way.

[Emotions: fading overwhelmed, disoriented, pensive, thoughtful]

Tiffany let out a breath of relief as soon as they made it out of the mixer. She gave Isaac's arm a grateful squeeze and took the time in the chilly night air to clear her mind. His confession had been stuck in her head from the moment she saw him in the mixer donning a green bracelet--when she'd seen that, she couldn't help but feel her gut twist and her skin go clammy. Why else would he go to a mixer other than to meet new girls (or guys)? Isaac wasn't much for making friends, after all.

She was biting on her lip when he pulled her from her thoughts, and she went to answer. "It's mostly just difficult to process for me, I guess. It...felt like I was dating a stranger, so when we broke up it was like...there wasn't really any sort of connection to be upset about, you know?"

Her eyes flashed gold, a bright light even under the streetlights. The color faded and she glanced around, spotting a cellphone on the ground. She pulled away from Isaac but didn't release him, extending just enough to grab the phone and gently toss it onto a nearby bench. Then she was right back by his side.

Her gaze turned up to his. "So, you said things have been fine? Is everything alright with your feeding still? I'm always a text away if you need me."

So their relationship had been...quick, from what he'd gathered. It didn't occur to him until now that he hadn't bothered asking Tiffany about her relationship before, how it had happened...to be honest, he hadn't been interested in it, and he'd found out about her boyfriend the hard way.

He paused as she stopped to pick up a lost cell phone and smiled a little. Tiffany was - had always been - kind, even to people she didn't know. It was one of the things he liked about her.

Isaac inhaled, her familiar scent wrapping around him and giving him some comfort. He nodded, "I've been...taking better care of myself since...y'know," he gently kicked a small rock from his path and it went rolling into the darkness.

He was silent for a while before adding, "I hope...what I said to you didn't affect your decisions." He rubbed the back of his head with his free hand.

[Emotions: reminiscent, bashful, positive, thoughtful]

The memory of Isaac's first meeting with her boyfriend never failed to make Tiffany feel bad. All the people hounding on him and while she honestly wanted to help, she didn't want to make her boyfriend feel bad by getting up and going with him while she was affected by his attraction aura. Maybe if he hadn't the aura things might have been different then, but she tried not to dwell on what if's. She could still feel his hand on her head from back then and reached up to brush her fingers through her blonde locks.

"I'm glad," she said softly, her blue eyes moving back to the path in front of them. His next words brought her to squeeze his arm slightly in surprise, and she too was silent for several moments. "I...don't know, really. I'd realized what was wrong when I was thinking about what you said. It--wait, no," She huffed, her breath visible in the air. "It was...something had happened before that that made me start to rethink things. So don't blame anything on yourself--I was already thinking about it before we talked."

Her response was a little jumbled and confusing to him, to say the least. He wasn't sure what to make of it. It seemed like she was trying to ease his conscience. He just hoped she wasn't lying to him to make him feel better.

Isaac delved into silence again for a while before he spoke again:

"My feelings haven't changed."

He kicked himself inwardly and added quickly, "Not that I want to push you into anything, of course. If you'd prefer that I not pursue you, I will gladly resign myself to just being friends and...look elsewhere for companionship." He had an eternity ahead of him to do so.

[Emotions: surprised, bashful, thoughtful, upbeat]

Her reverse empathy made Tiffany an open book, thankfully (and sometimes not thankfully). It told Isaac loud and clear that she wasn't lying, but her thoughts were indeed jumbled and she was fighting to make sense of them all. Her memories were mixed among copious amounts of visions of the future, memories that weren't hers and were never going to be hers.

Tiffany nearly tripped on her own feet and ate crap when he spoke of his feelings. She stumbled and straightened up and returned to his side, clearing her throat. Her cheeks were bright red, nearly unnoticeable in the dark but showing up like stoplights when they passed under a street lamp. It took a moment for her to find where her breath went and breathe like a normal person.

"I don't ever want to hear you say that again," she whispered, and a second passed before she added, "that you'll go look somewhere else. I'd like it if you pursued me, Isaac. I'd like it a lot."

Isaac stiffened as she stumbled and his hands shot out to steady her, but she seemed to manage to recover. He paused and turned to look at her, noting the way her cheeks lit up as blood rushed to them in a bright blush. If he had a working heart, it may have skipped a beat or two.

He watched her quietly as she spoke to him. A smirk pulled at the corner of his mouth and he lifted a hand to gently caress her blushing cheek, his cold thumb running across her warm skin. "Very well," he replied, his brown eyes warm and affectionate, an expression that he didn't show very often. His other hand lifted to brush a stray hair from her face.

This probably would have been the moment where he should lean in and kiss her, but he didn't want to push his luck this soon. Just because she'd given him permission to pursue her didn't suddenly give him any rights to her lips, nor any other part of her.

Cautiously, he took her hand and returned it to the crook of his arm, turning to continue down their path through the park. He was happy, for the first time in a long time.

[Emotions: enchanted, giddy, positive, curious]

Oh, there went her breath again. Tiffany softened and leaned into his touch, her lips settling into a bright grin. She'd always marveled at the icy feel of his skin compared to her own warmth even when it was cold out and she didn't feel particularly warm. Her eyes lingered on his expression, and if her heart hadn't skipped a beat before (being a human and all), it definitely did now.

And, while she couldn't deny that she'd expected Isaac to kiss her (predicted, more like), she only admired him more when he returned her hand to his elbow and continued walking with her. "You're so sweet, Isaac," she said. Her mood was finally lifting, and while she was relieved that it was, she was glad that he hadn't questioned her or dropped her when it was down.

"I've wanted to spend more time with you, so this is really nice." Tiffany glanced up at him and decided now was as good a time as ever to get to know him. She gently squeezed his arm. "What do you like to do in your free time, anyways? You were in the stables when I first met you, so...I'm guessiiiing you like to go horseback riding?"

'Sweet' wasn't really a word he would use to describe himself typically, but Tiffany just made him act a little differently when she was around him, he supposed. He was softer. Gentler. More aware of his actions than ever before, more in control than he'd ever felt since becoming a vampire, and it was all because he wanted her to just...be happy.

He gave her a sideways glance as she squeezed his arm and tilted his head in consideration to her question. "I've never ridden, actually," he admitted. "I just like being around the horses. They're not as quick to judge as people are. They don't care about appearances and...whatever."

"Before I met you," he rubbed the back of his head, a little embarrassed to admit this, "I didn't really...have any friends. I still kind of don't, outside of you. I'm not very good at socializing, as you've seen in the past. I'm getting better...because you've actually given me someone to talk to that I feel comfortable around."

[Emotions: happy, curious, thoughtful, crushing]

"Really? Wow, I was so sure you had!" she laughed. Well, she at least wasn't that far off, right? "I totally understand though. I feel the same about my cat; she's one of the best listeners ever. I recommend her if you ever need someone to talk to." She didn't know if she'd ever relate to horses the same way he did; they sure were pretty, but they frightened her something bad whenever she got close to them. At least she could admire them from a distance.

Tiffany shook her head and turned her eyes back up to him as he spoke. Her expression softened, and she smiled. She'd always had high hopes for him. "I'm happy I can help. I think you're doing great--you were so quiet when I first met you, and, well, you're still quiet, but it's like...a good quiet. That makes no sense. Just keep doing you!"

"I'm glad we're friends. You're one of the only people to ever actually hang out with me and talk to me outside of school or the community center, did you know? Hey, when are you free? We could totally hang out, spend some time together again. Oh, I'm not suggesting we like, stop talking now though--we can keep walking!"
