Isn't Detention the Place We All Want to Be?

Patty returns Isro a smile, even though she had no idea lick of Welsh or how she was even helpful int he first place. Still, it was nice of him to thank her for her input... even if it wasn't all that meaningful. She just hope he wouldn't call on her to actually explain her answer cause she only said yes to sound like she actually knew what she was talking about because everyone seems to think that now? Man she doesn't handle peer pressure well. But it would seem that he was not done with her for they then inquired more about herself.

"Uhhhhh..." Patty then pull up one of her hands and counted each finger before confirming her answer "four-ish months now? Errr... I come from a place called... Australia. Err... in case ya wanted to know."

Bel kept her face from breaking out in a smile when he decided that she should write the essay in Welsh. She got a perverse sense of pleasure for that small little act. It was harmless really, but she enjoyed being the smartass for once in her life.

Eyeing Patty as she spoke, Bel remained standing and waited patiently til she finished. Her face sort of expressionless except for when she mentioned she was from Australia. At that, Bel raised an eyebrow curiously. She had never met anyone from Downunder before.

When she was done, Bel started. "I am from the UK, and I have been here about a year."

Irso floated a little higher and crossed one leg over his thigh as Bel and Patty answered his question. His body loosened as a peculiarly small black cat pawed out from behind his collar and meowed at him before hopping out into the aisles and beginning its patrol of class.

It was his third and most useful companion during class, Scout. The cat usually wandered around the back of a classroom where people tried to sleep or cheat. In this case, he only made the kitty as a backup so he could politely focus on the girls without letting indolence take over the students.

A Welsh speaking Australian. Irso's mind tossed around the strange chances of that as Patty finished detailing how long she had been a resident of the island. He'd met a long-lived native American, several dragon dynasties, and enough magical humans to write a novel. The idea of "strange" was simply the norm here. Even he was an alien speaking several humanoid languages who was he to judge strangeness he thought.

Bel was less of a surprise given her fluency in Welsh. FInding an island native was a task he rarely ever accomplished. Though the time she had spent here did bring up the thought that she was homesick and that was the root of her attitude. Making a mental note to check her file later he returned his full focus to the conversation.

"You are both fairly new, though you especially Patty are quite recent. While I take it you both have made some friends in your time here you should both try and befriend each other. Language is the greatest tool of connection to exist."

Playing matchmaker was not his specialty but he couldn't help but try. He put on a hopeful face and looked between the two girls gauging their reactions.

Bel almost snorted and started laughing at Irso's well-intended suggestion. Not because of the idea of being friend's with Patty, but because he still had no clue Patty most likely did not speak Welsh.

Smiling then at Patty, she winked conspiratorially and then answered the teacher cheerfully, "Sure, it'll be fun getting to know a fellow Welsh speaking person."

Patty's eyes widen as Bel acknowledges her as being a fellow Welsh speaker and now feels all caught up in some elaborate lie she didn't even mean. She doesn't where the language even comes from or who its speakers are.

"Uhh-huh... uhh... yeah." was all Patty managed to stammer out, giving Bel a sheepish smile.

((Bit delayed but no problems with sitting this out Emi. I'm okey with you dropping out. Not like we are going to force you to RP when you have no desire to.))

That actually worked? Was the thought running through Irso head. As far of a shot as it was he half expected a snotty remark from Bel or a simple no from Patty. Regardless he wasn't gonna complain at the possibility of creating a bond. Having a person on the island to lean on, especially as a new person, was the best way to improve a person attitude. At least that is what he read out of a book in the teacher's lounge.

" Maybe having a friend you can connect with can help both of you. Bel, you shouldn't go around mouthing off to teachers. They are only trying to help you and improve the wealth of knowledge you hold." Irso tone seemed to foreshadow some long speech but he stopped there and looked to Patty. "As for you...well...I am inclined to believe you didn't mean to hit anybody in the eye but class is not the time to be toying with pens."

Irso's eyes drifted to the back for a second where Scout was repeatedly tapping a kid on the head for falling asleep.

Bel let out a little and very exasperated sigh when Irso started lecturing her about her behaviour.

"Fine, I'll stop," she muttered under her breathe, "if you stop lecturing me on something I already know," she uttered to herself, tired of everyone telling her what she should and shouldn't be doing.

"Naw yeah! Didn't mean to hurt anyone. Cap just went-" Patty then makes childish rocket noises with her mouth as her hand moves up in an erratic motion, as if to try to describe how the whole thing transpired with impromptu charades.

"Then bam! Right in the eye! I'll... uhhh... be sure to be more careful with my pens."

With that said, Patty looked behind herself to look at Bel.

"And... uhhh... I guess we can... be friends?" tentatively addressed Patty, unsure if the two where now destined to be friends after this whole crazy.

Arguing with Bel wasn't going to be beneficial in his mind. An agreeance that she would stop causing trouble would have to be the farthest he nudged for now. Though the part of him that liked fixing things had no stock in giving up and was concocting ways of finding the root of her behavior.

His eyes beaming directly into hers for an extended time was only broken when Patty began the performance of "The Flying Pen" to which some homemade sound effects were installed. Watching the reenactment again Irso's mouth curled into a small smile at the energy behind it. Patty either put up a good innocent front or she truly was innocent making this whole chain of events rather weird for the young lady.

Giving a reassuring nod with his head he smiled "Yes Yes I believe you, Patty."

Irso's eyes drifted back to Bel as Patty spoke giving off the message of "don't be rude" to the best of its ability. Both girls seemed like decent students with sharp minds. If Aristotle's ethics held some truth the two women would only benefit from each others company.

"Would you look at that Bel you may have gained something many people hard to get." The small victorious smile on his face was more to tease Bel of her earlier attitude toward detention.

There could never be a victory until the young ones in his care graduated with high marks.
